We've been to Jesse's Diner for breakfast a few times now, and I can't believe I'm just getting around to leaving a review! The food is always really good and consistent. I usually go for their French toast (sometimes stuffed), grits, eggs, and sausage--always hits the spot. Eli loves their pancakes and bacon, and my husband switches it up with things like the country fried steak and hot potatoes. This time, we decided to try their breakfast biscuits to go. I had the sausage, egg, and cheese, and we also tried the bacon, egg, and cheese plus a chicken biscuit--everything was fresh, flavorful, and honestly looked really good too. The presentation stood out even though we took it to go. We have dined in before, and the atmosphere is always welcoming with super friendly staff. I had Jesse's Diner on the brain and so did my wife. So here we go. Always a solid place for a simple but delicious meal. We both got a classic breakfast with eggs, grits, sausage gravy and a biscuit. And coffee included in price. Price....$6.50 each. Find that deal somewhere else except your own kitchen. I have eaten here several times over the last few years. Mostly was very satisfied and appreciated a menu more creative than a waffle house. But today ordered a fish sandwich. While in some ways it was good, plenty of lettuce, tomato, onion, there was very little fish. I think 3 bites of the sandwich had fish. I ordered delivery and my breakfast was wonderful! Everything was packaged perfectly to avoid anything getting soggy or spilling. I ordered the Corn Beef Hash and Egg (scrambled), the shredded hash browns and French toast (yes, all for myself, please don't judge lol). My corn beef hash was cooked perfectly, crisp not mushy. Eggs are eggs but the creaminess of the grits......even traveling, these grits were PERFECT! I totally understand that most restaurants don't season with much salt or pepper to allow those with dietary restrictions to season themselves. Jesse's included all of the necessary condiments and then some. A little salt, pepper and butter was all the grits needed; did I say they were cooked perfectly? My French toast was good, nice and fluffy. An order was 4 half slices (2 whole pieces of bread). Hash browns were good, I wish they were crispy but I'll be sure to ask for them that way next time. read more

My family and I went to Jesse's Diner this morning for brunch. Seating wasn't bad, but it was fairly dirty and super noisy. After a table was cleaned we sat down. A nearby waitress noticing one of our members was on the heavy side tried to suggest we move somewhere else that had a table that could be moved, but it was filthy and wobbly. We all ordered coffee and it was old tasting so not a good start. I ordered hamburger steak w/ eggs, my wife ordered the Jesse omelette w/ grits & toast, and the other family member ordered the country fried steak w/ eggs and toast. Then the wait started as it took 45 minutes (we each drank 3 cups of coffee waiting) to get our food. When our food arrived we were starving and each of us honestly wanted to send our plates back. Not a single thing on the plates was hot or fresh tasting. The gravy on the country fried steak looked congealed like it had sat in the fridge. The grits could have been used as bricks. The omelette was overcooked and leathery. My sunny side up eggs were no longer runny from sitting so long and my hamburger steak was a tragedy. It was tiny at maybe 2-3oz, cold as if it had sat outside, and tasted like some mystery meat out of a can. The only positive of the entire meal was that the coffee got better tasting and hotter the longer we sat there so I am guessing it got fresher brews and they use a decent brand. I definitely will not return to this restaurant and I don't feel the $40 to eat was worth it at all. read more

Took several minutes to be acknowledged by a server. I noticed they stay fairly busy but even to be acknowledged that someone is coming would be nice. Place is noisy since it's a busy place. Lady with apparently no decent upbringing with sitting next to me at counter FaceTiming the whole time. Servers said nothing. My server was a young lady who did a pretty good job although apparently no one likes their steaks medium. I told her that is how I wanted it and she responded back with "medium well"? We are visiting from out of town and was looking for a quick bite. We stumbled across this restaurant and at first wasn't sure if it was open because there wasn't many cars at all in the lot. Upon entering I was very skeptical of what to expect, however, the food is amazing and one of the best chicken philly I've had in a very long time. I had the server order it custom for me because it really wasn't on the menu. Chicken, peppers, onions, mushrooms, mozzarella cheese and mayo. It came out so delicious on a soft hoagie bun with the cheese perfectly melted. The fries were perfect as well. My other half got the smokehouse burger and that was very good also, but he ate it too quick to get a picture. I myself ate half before I realized I should take a picture of it. Going back to the counter area, that menu board shouldn't be there as it doesn't represent all the food they serve. The staff was very friendly and accommodating as well. This place must be a popular breakfast spot. It was really busy on Saturday. I was disappointed in the food. Everything was like warm and underwhelming. The biggest let down was the omelette. I asked for a cheese omelette but when she brought it, I immediately noticed a slice of dry cheese hanging outside of the egg on the plate. Then as I ate it, there was no cheese inside. The service was so so; as the waitress didn't really have a personality, just kind of a "what do you want" demeanor. Probably because it was so busy but a smile goes a long way. Using our old friend, Take Out Triad, we ordered some lunch items from this little diner, with something less than overwhelming success. The order was transmitted on line, quickly acknowledged, and very quickly delivered - kudos to both Take Out and Jesse's for the timeliness - unfortunately the food was very ordinary in most respects. The Chopped BBQ Sandwich ($5.44 with Onion Rings) was very obviously a commercially acquired product, and not a particularly good one at that. The overwhelming tastes were bland and lack of freshness. Some liberally applied hot sauce was of little help. The Cheeseburger ($5.15 with Fries) was a typical "diner" style burger - rather small, but with some nice flavor.The Fish Sandwich ($6.04 with Hot Chips) was a rectangle of recently defrosted pressed fish flesh, which was subsequently overcooked. The Hot Chips weren't. The Southern Fried Chicken ($6.85 with salad and bread) consisted of 2 small, under-seasoned, overcooked pieces of dark meat. This meat also was most assuredly frozen at the start of the day.The Seafood Combo ($12.95 with salad) was not all that bad, but very overpriced. Again, obviously frozen, the White Fish was rather thin, but not without some flavor. The Fried Shrimp, which were in no way identifiable as shrimp by their shape, were actually very tasty. The salads were nice, the biscuit was not. They serve 3 meals a day here, and I understand that breakfast is very good. I'll have to try that. read more

I visited Jesse's today for breakfast, with very high hopes because of what I had been told. I will start by saying, the service was excellent but the food, well, I'll go with mediocre. I chose the ultimate breakfast which was a plethora of food consisting of 2 eggs, 2 sausage links, 2 bacon strips, a piece of ham, hash browns, and toast. I also added one pancake just because I wanted to give it a try. The food was just middle of the road, with little flavor. As another member of my party stated, it was like Jesse just went down to the local Food Lion and purchased the ingredients, as nothing really just stood out. Just finished having breakfast here a few minutes ago and SATISFIED best describes our experience. When my son and I walked in I noticed a sign that said to go ahead and seat yourself, so that's what we did. Within 5 minutes the waitress came and give us menus and got us coffee, later to find out that she was the only waitress in the whole diner. I didn't get her name (middle aged Caucasian woman), but she was the shining star of the diner, helping every single customer, wiping tables, dealing with complaints...all the while keeping her composure and keeping a smile on her face. Before we left, I had my son hand her a 100% tip to ensure she received it instead of having to split a main tip pot at the end of the day. She deserves every bit of praise and I sure hope the owners of the diner notice how hard of a worker she is and how great of a human being she is. Ok, to the food. It was diner food, so no surprises. Pancakes were hot and fresh, and had a light density to them. It's hard to screw pancakes imo. Pictured is the platter that I ordered - corned beef hash with over easy eggs and a side of liver pudding (or what some call scrapple). Corned beef hash had a nice crisp on them, grits were buttery and creamy, eggs perfectly runny, and toast was crisp and buttery. The liver pudding deserves a separate sentence or two as they were the star of my breakfast! Fried, crispy outside with a moist interior and mild taste, no liver taste at all. The best scrapple I've ever had was homemade scrapple from a buddy of mine and this liver pudding ranks up there. For those of you on the edge as to whether or not you should try it, give it a try. You might need to get used to the interior consistency, but I guarantee you'll love it. read more

This is a nice little diner in an area that's not the best in the city. Though I wouldn't order the French Dip again.. I wasn't thrilled with the mushrooms or the au jus.. The onion rings were some of the best I've had in a long time. Hot, crunchy, but not hard.. and flavorful. I'll come back just for those and possibly try their Reuben.. So I hate to even leave this horrendous 1 star review, but it's a necessary one. I arrived at this diner around 10:30 this morning with my girlfriend, we seated ourselves and sat down to wait for the waitress. She passes by me twice and says ' Be right with you ' and makes no eye contact, smile or anything. After about 5 minutes ( they were semi-busy ) she comes over to take our drink order. Coffee and water for us both. Again, we wait 5 minutes for her to come back with our drinks. She never asks if we are ready to order, she just puts the drinks down and heads over to take care of about 4-5 more customers. Eventually we do have our order taken and the food was fine, but I was appalled by the service. Now to be clear, I wasn't expecting 5 star or even 3 star service but I do expect a little bit of human decency and respect, to which I received none. I have only had treatment this poor at an Italian restaurant in Asheboro where the waitress clearly had a problem with us being an interracial couple. To which we received an apology from the manager and a different waitress. On top of the bad service, the waitress definitely violated several health code violations and the bathroom had no soap in the dispenser. She picked up our cups on the top where we put our lips to drink, and at the end whilst waiting to pay for our meal. Again, we were not acknowledged at the counter for about 5+ minutes. At this time there was about 40% occupancy and they were not busy at all. This was one of the worst experiences I've ever had at a diner, and I will not be returning to Jesse's Diner again. read more

My Mom always said, if the parking lot is consistently full, it must have something good inside! Typical diner set up with typical diner food and prices. Waitress are pleasant even though they were slammed. Got my normal diner breakfast of two eggs scrambled, hashed-browns, bacon and biscuits. All was good, bacon a little to salty (if that is even possible) and the biscuits are not homemade. I feel like this place is what it is...diner food. Our first time here. My wife has noted for some time that the parking lot is always near full, which is usually a good sign with greasy spoon-type places. We arrived and there was construction out front that made for some tight navigation in the parking lot. And, per her previous observations, it was near-full. It's a "seat yourself" establishment, so we sat about mid-room. Our table was cleared of plates but not wiped down. Nor was it ever wiped down. They were very busy and the staff was in a bit of a flurry, but after about 10 min someone took our drink and food order. The coffee is typical diner coffee. Has no character. The menu is basic diner fare. Nothing stands out. I ordered the western omelet. The food arrived quickly after. It was tasty but a little light on filling. The biscuits were not homemade--maybe Pillsbury? The hash browns were shredded and crispy. Perfectly cooked. Overall, an average diner with average diner prices. Pretty cozy inside and a friendly staff. If you're looking for no frills diner grub, it's worth a stop. read more

What a fun little find this was! It was like small town, old world America meets 2016! I was eating alone, so I sat at the counter and next to me were two other eating-alone gentlemen (all of us of different races). The servers were all very pleasant and the owner was thoughtful to ask every customer if everything was to their liking. The food was pretty standard, simple fair. They had the classic, spinning desserts case in the corner with lots of yummy looking cakes and pies.
