    Italian Sub

Haven't eaten here in years. Decided to stop in for their daily special. One of the best Italian subs I've had in a long time!

To start. The girl who served me was super short with me and not friendly at all. Second .... the food. I won't say it was bad because it wasn't, but it was pretty bland, I asked for oil & vinegar on my sub & they put zesty Italian, I recognized it because of its bright yellow color and the fact that this is how my mom makes cheese steaks , personally I like the meat on my cheesesteak chopped up but this was in slices and they also use plain american cheese which doesn't really pair well, also wasn't a fan of the sub roll, they press it flat as if it's a grilled cheese. I wouldn't say don't go here but I wouldn't recommend it either it's just kind of EHH

I've been going here since I was a child. I can't believe after all these years, it still taste so good & the same. Love coming here. My favorite is the steak & cheese with sweet tea. Yum!

As before, I give this a resounding 5 stars. The menu has changed a little bit since I last wrote a review, and I've tried some new items. I have yet to try anything that I didn't like. My new go-tos are the raging chicken salad on a croissant and the berries and cream pastries. If you read my previous review, you will see that I was working up the nerve to try the chicken salad, because I'm somewhat meat-averse at times, and also don't like heavily mayonnaised foods, which is a big risk with any of the so-called "salad" items (potato, chicken, tuna, etc.) in life. I can now confirm that the chicken salad is 1) not overly mayonnaised and 2) made from not-gross chicken (I have no further explanation for this, but picky eaters will know what I mean). It's relatively light, has a nice texture, and is flavorful. It is one of my favorite weekend lunch items (or weekday, if I'm working remotely and in the area) now, not just here but in general. The berries and cream pastry is delicious and I would eat everyday, or even multiple times a day, if my figure and my wallet could afford it. Sweet, rich, flaky. Definitely one of my favorite dessert / sweet snack items currently. I also got a birthday cake made here and it was absolutely gorgeous (and delicious, obviously). Very well executed and totally got my vision. As I said before, there is plenty of seating inside (outside too!) and the volume level is perfect -- lots of people coming through, but quiet enough I can read, study, or do work. We spend several hours at a time in here some weekends. Highly recommend to anyone in the area or passing through.

It closed in early February for what were supposed to be renovations, only to reopen months later with a new name and a new concept, trading slightly upscale Southern for more upscale Italian. In some regards, this makes sense - it fills a void created by the closure of Lulu and Blu - but in other ways, it's a massive gamble. My wife and I went for our anniversary dinner, and while it was an overall pleasant experience, it also made us miss Magnolia. The higher price point is the chief culprit. Otto and Blue offers pastas in the $20s and entrees starting in the $30s, bread and olive oil not included. While we were celebrating an occasion that merited such a splurge, it's hard to imagine the restaurant remaining competitive at those prices once the sheen of newness wears off. Look past that, however, and Otto and Blue shines in both ambiance and service. It's classy without being stuffy, and the dark turquoise tones suit it well. Allison, a Magnolia Blue mainstay, was personable and attentive and provided excellent service throughout the meal. Otto and Blue's menu offers apps, salads, pastas, and entrees. It's predominantly Italian albeit with a few options for the steak-and-potatoes crowd. The dishes range from recognizably classic (rigatoni Bolognese) to conspicuously elevated (halibut piccatta). After mulling over several offerings, we went with the bread service, tagliatelle, and duck cacciatore. The food ranged from fairly good to outstanding. While $9 for bread is a tough pill to swallow, they executed it as well as they possibly could have: a hot, fresh ciabatta with tasty herb butter, olive relish, and a quality olive oil-balsamic combo as accompaniments. The cacciatore boasted a pair of duck legs confit, and while I'm usually no fan of dark meat poultry, these were prepared well with crispy skin and plenty of meat. For a typically hearty dish, the sauce seemed light (and a bit subdued), but that could be a consequence of serving atop polenta (more absorbent) rather than pasta. Speaking of pastas and sauces, the tagliatelle hit a nice balance of creamy and zesty without swimming in its white wine lemon sauce. Surprisingly, the highlight of the meal ended up being the dessert that Otto and Blue kindly offered as an anniversary gift. A scoop of vanilla bean gelato came adorned with a Biscoff cookie, a drizzle of olive oil, and a dash of salt. If salt and especially olive oil on ice cream seem vaguely blasphemous, don't knock it until you try it. Each bite was thoroughly delicious. It's a given that good food doesn't come cheap, but even so, Otto and Blue has no margin for error to justify what it charges. On food alone, it was close but not quite there. However, the overall experience made it worthwhile, and I have no regrets about dining here.

We also got biscuits and they came out super dry initially but our server got us fresh ones and the fresh ones came out a little undercooked and she took them back without us even asking! The service was impeccable. The chicken and waffles looked delightful as well. The place is very posh and they have parking behind the building and make sure you walk towards the outside of the building towards their ground floor entrance! I'll be back soon!

To start- I have to say that the service was ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC! Our waitress took care of everything we needed in a timely manner, but also never hovered which I fully appreciated! We started out with complimentary garlic knots for the table which was such a nice touch! I probably wouldn't order them again but they were pretty good- veryyy buttery but not much garlic flavor which I need. Wanting to try it all, we got two appetizers: the baked bruschetta and mozzarella sticks! I'm not a fan of tomatoes but after picking them off I lovedddd it. The garlic bread was to die for and I would love to have more! The mozzarella sticks were pretty run of them mill, probably from the freezer, but cooked to perfection. Fried hot but still had alll of the cheese in them! Definitely would order either of them again! Sticking with the theme of too much food just to try it out, for the main course we got an 8" pizza and Stromboli. The pizza was yummmy but I wish that there had been a little bit more of both toppings, especially considering it was all up-charged. We got the small original Stromboli but without the ham (picky me- I know). This was also very delicious. I wish I had asked for double pepperoni after removing the ham but that is not their fault! If you're looking for a local place to support definitely stop into Pizza Vino!
