A 4.5 star review, rounded up because the owner was so kind in helping us find the perfect table. We showed up at Caroline's as a referral from Connor at our hotel, the Eagle Wing inn. There are multiple different seating options, everything from an outdoor patio to high top bar seats, tables, and the indoor booth seating which is what we selected. The dining room is comfortable, and with open windows it provided a nice breath of fresh air. We started with the seafood sampler, a wonderful combination of fresh and delicious shellfish (clams, oysters, shrimp and a lobster tail). We then split appetizers instead of entrees, having the tuna tartare and the Chatham mussels, both of which were excellent. There was some minor room for improvement - after we were done with our seafood sampler, we sat for about 10 minutes while our server Danielle seemed to be in an enthusiastic conversation with Caroline out in front of the restaurant. It provided for some interesting dinner theater, but with so many other employees standing around, it probably would have been an ideal opportunity for somebody else to chip in and take over. Also, the mussels came in a wonderful wine / garlic sauce - some bread would have been a thoughtful addition to soak up that wonderful broth. Fortunately the quality of the food and the vibe of the restaurant more than compensated for a couple of service issues - we visited in late May, so hopefully by the time this restaurant hits the busy season, they'll have the issues worked out. Overall, I would certainly not hold back from referring this restaurant. read more

We had a nice dinner at Caroline's. It's a beautiful restaurant inside and out. The ambiance outside is really nice despite being next to rt 6. You pretty much forget that it's there. Service was very friendly. The food came out incredibly quickly. Almost too quickly. I wouldn't have minded waiting a little bit to have more time to enjoy my wine and the ambiance. There was bread service which I enjoyed because a lot of restaurants have stopped offering bread. We had a beet and arugula salad to start which was delicious. For dinner I had the scallop dish with a seafood demi glacé and mushrooms. It was very rich with umami and paired well with the sweetness of the scallops. My husband had the grilled swordfish which was good, but not very special. The piece of fish was a little thin and slightly overcooked. The buttery caper sauce was good . Our lemon meringue tart was tasty, but the tart crust was tough and nearly impossible to cut through. Overall it was good, but not great. It was also very expensive. My dish with 4 scallops was nearly $50. The total with our food and just two glasses of wine plus tip was nearly $200 which is quite steep, even for the Cape. If we were to return next year I think we're more likely to come for a lunch. read more

Caroline is in Eastham Staples so you have to try it. The oysters are delicious (according to my sister) all the sandwiches I've ever had were great. I love the indoor/outdoor look and the beautiful building! The parking lot can be a little bit tricky, so go early-- carpool to save yourselves the headache. However, it's Cape Cod. Anyways...... the service here is impeccable: friendly, experienced and knowledgeable. Carolines is always a must visit to anyone who's new to this little town. read more

This was our first time visiting Cape Cod and we were stayinging in Eastham for two nights. Our hotel recommended this place for dinner and we are so glad they did because it was fabulous. When we arrived, we were not sure whether we wanted to sit indoors or outside. The owner, Caroline, was so gracious and gave us a little tour of all of the seating options and we loved that. We decided on a booth in the indoor dining room and it ended up being a great choice with nice music playing there. The menu has plenty of seafood appetizers and entrees. We started with the seafood sampler and it did not disappoint. It had shrimp, lobster, oysters and clams. Our next appetizer was the steamed mussels dish, another great dish. I'll start with the good: 1) The reservation process over the phone was excellent. Caroline was very warm and helpful. She asked great questions about our large group to know where to best seat us. 2) The service was good. And the space is very nice despite the music being a touch loud where we were seated (under a speaker). 3) The tuna tartar app was really enjoyable and the seafood sampler was mostly great - the shrimp were slightly over cooked and a bit chewy. The not great: 1) The sweet and spicy pasta dish is a miss. The shrimp were way over cooked. The pasta was also over- almost mushy. And the sauce was coyingly sweet. I can't imagine they're making that sauce in the kitchen. Tasted like something store bought. 2) The corn and crab fritters didn't taste much like corn or like crab. Just tasted like bread and the texture was spongy and lacking any difference between the exterior or interior. It would've been nice to be served with a flavored butter as opposed to ranch. 3) The clam chowder just doesn't hold up against several others we tried on the cape. Wasn't bad but wasn't really good. Food wise I'd give this spot a 3 but I'll bump it to a 4 for the interaction with staff. read more

We'd driven past Caroline's and immediately caught my eye on a Thursday late afternoon in North Eastham on our way to Ptown. From the outside gravel lot and simple string white lights, honestly, even from outside, you'd swear this was just another casual flip-flop Cape spot. The energy is pumping, the crowd is spilling onto the patio and the bar area might seem as it could double as a summer beach club. Inside, though, the navy and white style keeps things crisp, nautical and just slightly elevated enough without trying too hard. It's relaxed, but you can feel there's something more beneath the surface. Even with our res, we waited a bit- which wasn't a problem. Once we were seated, the service snaps into a bit casual/a bit fine-dining gear- it's attentive but not stuffy. Caroline's menu is where the "casual" mask fully drops. It's Cape Cod, so of course oysters are a must- cold, briny and perfect. Then the main plates push things a little higher: my halibut was cooked to perfection, was meaty and silky. My husband's linguine+clams was another hit- garlicky and decadent without being heavy. And the grand finale of them all was our dessert. I initially opted out of their chocolate pot de crème- but I gave in as their only chocolate item. I'm so happy we ordered it. Except, I misread the toasted marshmallow part in our dessert. I removed it and placed it on another plate. This so-called pots de crème had nothing custardy about it. It had the shape alright- but this was so freaking moussey- it was ultra heavenly. Our server Megan was a sweetheart from beginning to end. Caroline's is the kind of place that kind of says 'laid-back'- but the presentation, meal and pricing, all scream as your go-to destination that's a step-up from the ordinary. Obviously you aren't wearing your sequins dress here- but if Caroline's gave you a wink, it would say: you thought this was just a casual night out? Think again. read more

Went here for dinner recently and even though the parking lot was heaving, we were still seated right away. They have a good menu with lots of choices. We chose clam and corn fritters, halibut tacos and fish and chips. The fritters were so crunchy and flavorful. They came with two dipping sauces. My husband really enjoyed the beer battered fish. Fried well and golden brown. My tacos were with pan seared halibut. They had two sauces on them which was the only part of the food I did not enjoy. But they were well prepared and I'm sure others would like the sauces. My only complaint of the night was that our waitress wasn't friendly or attentive. She looked really put out by any changes we wanted to make. But we will definitely go again and try more things and enjoy the upbeat atmosphere! read more

Wow. Caesar salad was probably one of the best I've ever had...homemade croutons for the win, although there were a little too many croutons. Fish and chips were beer battered and not heavy feeling, clam fritters were delicious and not too battery tasting. The oysters were so fresh. We made a reservation and were seated fairly promptly. Tourists beware!, Atmosphere and staff were very nice. Food was decent, price is a little on the high end for what you get. However that wasn't the real problem. We decided to split the swordfish paid and left before checking the bill. Big mistake; although we asked for a split we got two side plates, split the fish ourselves and were charged 10 bucks for an item we split ourselves. That is insane. We were not trying to cheap out by any means we enjoyed cocktails, and apps before. It would've been nice if we were notified on the split price. I feel like it's a way to take advantage of people you know you're not going to see again as we don't live in the area. I've had several fine dinning experiences where I was not charged split fee and if I was, it was 3 to 5 dollars. Next time, maybe split it for the customer if you're gonna whack them with $10 disappointed, & overpriced!! read more

The whole belly clams seemed to have a lot more strips (and fries) than whole bellies and the beer batter fish was overcooked and dry. Five of us went for dinner a few days ago. The friends we were staying with go here regularly. We sat outdoors and when it cooled off they brought out a heater which was welcome. We went through two bottles of La Cana Albariño whereas I had a glass of Fess Pinot Noir. My wife and I shared 8 local oysters - quite tasty. Three people had the chilled gazpacho which they said was delicious. I followed my oysters with more baked oysters and fried calamari. There were orders of seared scallops, a crab cake with a side of coleslaw, a fish dish and a large helping of a fish stew, all of which were pronounced delicious . A side dish of fries was shared as was the house dessert. We took some food home which was consumed the next day. Our server, Meagan, was attentive and very pleasant. The check came to $400 net of the service charge of some 20% which we added to the bill. It was worth it and we would return again. read more

Just purchased a take out meal from Caroline's in Eastham MA. Whole Belly clams were fresh and tasty, way more French fries than clams (not unusual for most take out seafood restaurants in the area) cocktails were tasty while we waited for our takeout order, service was excellent, promp and timely. Disappointed that they don't offer live music and happy hour anymore. Still a great spot for fresh seafood in Eastham, but will look for other options in the area that have live music and happy hour options. Happy Summer read more

Oh Caroline, how you amazed me! Caroline's is a pretty unassuming spot. Easily appreciated in any beach community. Painted trusses and tin roofs make great restaurants. We came in with no reservations on a Saturday night, off season. With one weekend to go in their season you'd think they'd be off their game thinking about a winter of relaxation. Not the case! Anya, took great care of us and although busy was open to a little chat as I am prone to do. We started with the Painkiller and Garden Party drinks with the Crab Cake and the special of the night, Halibut ceviche. Yes, halibut ceviche! It was out of this world good. Halibut was the catch of the day and Crit, the chef, made good use of it! We picked Steak tacos and halibut tacos (sense my love of a catch of the day). Also both delicious. We finished with another daily special, the chocolate mousse cake. It was served with a healthy dollop of fresh whipped cream. With Caroline herself working the tables and seating patrons it became easy to see why they were so busy off season. I've had one perfect experience at Caroline's and one mediocre so with the best ambiance in the Cape (so far) I'm putting it at solidly four stars. The outdoor patio area, the high tops, and the bar area are just perfect at night. Music and cocktails were great. The first time I went my wife and I both had fish with fancy sauces/garnishes and everything was fantastic from the fish to the flavors to the sides. The second time I had the best iced tea ever (there's something smoky about it... seems like a special blend) and some wonderful buttery baked oysters. From there it went a little south with some very past-the-date scallops... like maybe the most past-the-date item I've ever been served and it was intense. I swapped with the steak tacos and those were fine but not great. It was very lightly seasoned hunks of beef (like steak tip size) slapped in a tortilla with some very lightly seasoned cabbage. Flavorless guacamole. The tacos need some braised or thinly sliced beef, flavorful garnish (pickled red onions maybe), salt in the guac, sour cream etc. All in all I will be giving it another chance if only for the most romantic spot around to take the wife and a perfect iced tea. read more

Everything got off to good start... welcoming hostess, super clean interior, table available immediately for our reservation. Began with shrimp cocktail and tasty clam chowder... and then we waited and waited for our entrees. More than 35 minutes passed and finally the food arrived. Fish and chips and the panko crusted chicken were okay, but the swordfish was so overcooked it was inedible. (I wonder if this was the meal we noticed lingering under heat lamps in the kitchen?) Our waitress disappeared, and when she finally appeared to clear the plates, she offered to re-cook another piece of fish or choose something else, but it was too late, everyone else had finished eating. (They did remove the charge from the bill.) And then we waited again for a long, long time for the check. We noticed her standing behind a partition in the corner eating and flagged her down. This was my first time trying out Caroline's despite having always wanted to! The food I must say was delicious! Starting with the halibut ceviche, the drinks were strong but balanced. I had the Portuguese stew and added linguini on the side. There was a generous portion and I had leftovers for the next day! The flavors were great and it was fabulous. My aunt had the pistachio and basil crusted cod which was also a generous portion and delicious! My only negative would be the service. We had a reservation, and were seated promptly! Our server was super friendly? But we ordered our drinks, Got them quickly, and then never saw her for a bit (she was busy! Place was packed!) we flagged down another server after 50 minutes of waiting for our appetizer and she happily brought it right out. It was a bit slow from there to get our entrees and we noticed tables who came and sat got their food and left much faster. Luck of the draw ! Overall highly recommend but not if you have a time schedule to keep to! We missed getting to the drive in that night, because of the extremely long time it took to have dinner. We pulled in here on our way to Wellfleet about 7pm on a Saturday. It was pretty busy but not chaotic. The ambiance was very nice with a nice sized bar area with tall tables and regular. They have live music but we left before they got going. We started with clam chowder (fantastic) and a Caprese salad (also fantastic) I had filet mignon with mashed potatoes and asparagus on a bed of spinach. The meat was cooked perfectly and very tasty. The mashed and veggies were also top notch. My wife got the wedge salad and she liked it very much. The overall experience was really good and we will definitely be back when we come back to the Cape. The pricing is a tiny bit high, but no more than any other good place in this area. Wow super disappointing experience with the service. We ordered our dinner and the main meal came 5 minutes later but the appetizers didn't come until after the mains and were not what we ordered. No apologies and the waitress acted like nothing happened. We were prepared to spend double but feeling rushed just ruined the experience. Just don't. One of the problems with restaurants in tourist communities is that they don't even have to try. They only need you to come once. That must be the business plan here. The waitress was clearly inconvenienced by her job. Rude, exasperated and bothered. The wine was horrible, the cocktail I got instead was worse. My friends meal was not properly cooked. Waitress was non responsive, owner actually argued with my friend, who's been a chef for 35 years, over the dangerously undercooked food. It's loud, it's not the cleanest and it's criminally overpriced. Just drive by, there are plenty of excellent, well managed local restaurants that are far more deserving of your patronage read more

Our new favorite place. We were bird watching all morning and needed lunch and a cocktail. We decided on another place but turned in here when we saw outside covered dining. Doors opened up a bar, airy and breezy. The owner came out to meet us. If you meet her, tell her Judy and Sheila said hi. We started with very good margaritas. A little pricey but nice. We were going to order a full lunch until we saw that Wellfleet raw oysters were $1 each from 3:30 until 5:00. So we had the Calamari and a cod sandwich. Very good. Service excellent. Back at 3:30, we ate 4 dozen Wellfleet oysters. Delicious!!! What a find!!! Great place, great servers. If you like raw oysters, you can afford them here. read more

When my hubby asked what I wanted to do on the Cape, my answer was sit on the beach and eat a lobster. Check and check. Caroline's fulfilled one of my wishes with flying colors. Lobster was delicious, the potatoes on the side weren't just plain boiled potatoes, they were perfectly seasoned. Everyone loved their food, Fish and Chips, Fried Clams, and Ribeye steak. We even tried a Chocolate dessert we had never heard of, A "creameux" I wish I took a picture, it was so rich, we all had to help and we still couldn't finish it. Dallas girl who loves tuna tartare could not have been happier with hers, and Philly girl with the severe shellfish allergy felt safe and very comfortable knowing the owner takes allergies very seriously and assured us the the halibut would be cooked separately in its own super-scrubbed pan!
