A great lower cape dive bar. Where the locals go for an excellent reasonable drinks. And pool tables.

I was at the Bomb Shelter and witnessed the bouncer suddenly becoming aggressive and extremely physical towards select paying patrons who were doing nothing wrong. It was unprofessional and honestly possibly assault, my group and I were shocked. It was unlike anything I see at other bars, bouncers should be keeping people safe not initiating one-sided fights. This man should be fired. I will not be returning and caution anyone else against entering this business. read more

This hidden gem is a straight "5"... Except for one encounter... bare with me through this and I'll expand on the greatness... Been coming here as "wash a-shores" for years and have always been embraced and loved all that is offered: company, atmosphere, stories, ... and more... and It. Is. Still. There... Except... The new guy Matt.... he also works upstairs at the Bookstore and most definitely could give two shits about anything but the money in his wallet and how to fu$@ over the next person. After coming in for decades and dealing with Steve, who is incredible... we came across Matt and his "Budweiser" fanship (the guy had a Bud jersey, and Bud T-Shirt underneath) he loves his Bud, I reckon.... Ok. No biggie. After two beers and two shots we were quoted a tab of $58.00...... We didn't argue though the night before had twice that at the same price... but when we paid $90.00 (a fifty and two $20s) and were short changed... we looked at it, still didn't say anything but looked at our money and Matt was like "...oh....oh whoops.... my bad.... I short changed you...."... after a while of us making sure we weren't idiots... The guy is a straight up skeeeeeez. Keep your standards. Keep the "wash-a-shores" and locals... and even tourists happy. This guy is a dud. He's only in it to make himself a quick buck and screw over the reputation of a long standing business. But other than that. Place is hands down the best around. Pool, Fusball.... darts, tunes... drinks... and awesome company. Steve is amazing. And the glue of this whole place. Screw Matt. I like a good dive bar, but def not this one. The bartender was rude and obnoxious. Despicable. He actually put his hands on my friend, tossing him to the floor over a simple disagreement over plastic or glass, escalating things like that was his job. Made a real show for the rest of the bar, which cheered him on like rabble in the Roman coliseum with no clue about who was right or wrong, but just loving the violence. Pathetic. We filed a police report, but of course nothing will come of it. Meanwhile, my friend, a 33 year old local, couldn't be a more chill, peaceful dude-never had a fight in his life-which is probably what the bartender sensed. Bullies love a good victim. This review won't stop anyone from going to the place and maybe violence is part of the joint's charm, but I'm still disturbed by what I witnessed. In Wellfleet, of all places. read more

We walked in and if looks could kill.. we were obviously not welcome and we're supposed to know no table service ? So I went up to the bar and the bartender couldn't have been colder. Asked if there was a food menu and he simply and without a smile said no. Like 6 people in the whole place on a Saturday night he should have been more welcoming to us . Finished our drinks and paid up and probably will not back again. Steve isn't as friendly if you're not a friend or regular obviously. read more

On late Friday/ early Saturday at 1am I reported to the bartender on duty that a customer of the bar took a pool game SO seriously that he took it upon himself to pretend to ejaculate onto the pool table/at the opposing team (2 young females) and when we brought it up to the bartender on duty he told us that the customer was a regular and that because the customer was a regular he couldn't do anything about it... as a female, the encounter itself was not shocking but the bartender's complete disregard and lack of interest in the matter was extremely uncomfortable. I would NEVER come back to such an establishment that would allow such things to take place. It was disgusting. I do not recommend coming to this bar EVER. read more

I live on cape cod, and in the off season, this is an awesome dive bar with good cheap strong drinks. we didn't get served in plastic cups and the bartender wasn't an asshole at all. that might happen when the place is slammed with tourists in the summer but when we went in november it was pleasant and we had real glasses. there were also two foxes that people feed outside that were tame enough to come right up to the bar! I haven't been in the summer yet but I did go during oyster fest, which was very busy, and i still got served in a glass cup and there wasn't a long wait even though the place was busy. read more

If you are out-of-towners like we were then I would stay far away from this place!! Four 30-something year-old professionals walk into a bar and get treated like we are hooligans looking for trouble. We ordered a round of beers and played a round of pool, and felt so uncomfortable and out of place from both the bartender and the patrons that it wasn't even enjoyable. We tried to order a second round of beers and the bartender told us we were all cut off, after trying to have a pleasant conversation with the bartender and being polite and respectful!! We have never been to a place like this where we felt so immediately judged and out of place. We were just trying to play a couple of games with each other and hang out at a local spot, but clearly people had other ideas! If I could give it 0 stars I would, and we are not at all hard people to please!! read more

Food, Ambiance, and Waitress were excellent. Hostess was extremely rude and un-accomadating. As we were paying our bill for a party of 5, our aunt and sister showed up and pulled up a seat at a circular table with plenty of room. She rudely patronized them and told them they needed to leave, when they were simply keeping us company for our last five minutes. The Bomb is a place where locals, wash ashore and visitors will feel welcome and always are treated well. Steve is the de facto mayor of Wellfleet, and is great to shoot the breeze with. Small dive bar in the basement of a restaurant. The bartender is rude and a complete ass. Everyone smokes in the stairwell entrance so good luck getting in without getting burned. There's a pool table and dart board and young crowd to boot. The signs say max occupancy is 79 but it feels packed with 30-40 people. It's a bar to go to if you're looking to keep the night going while the good places are closing. read more

This place is under the Bookstore Restaurant, around the back. It's a decent no-frills bar, the drafts are served in plastic cups but the beer selection is pretty good and the lines are kept clean...I guess that's all you can ask for. Nice, solid dive bar in the back basement of a restaurant. They have a pool table as well. My only complaint is that they let people smoke in the doorway, and since the place is so tiny you're basically smoking along with them! In the summer, prepare for crowds. read more

I'm a year rounder so I may be biased but here goes. This is my local watering hole I'm probably in here 100 days per year, Steve and Jamie make very good drinks and the price is right. Not sure why this is listed as a dive bar, it doesn't fit the true meaning.
