First of all - YUM! Local Break is a great spot for dinner and drinks if you're up in Eastham - the lobster roll is delicious and would highly recommend. Fresh, local and incredibly kind/ attentive service. The star of the show is the clam chowder. Chunky, filled with clams and tasted homemade. We also tried the tuna tartare tacos which were so flavorful! It tastes like poke in a taco form: fresh layer of guacamole, marinated tuna, topped with seaweed and sesame seeds. Local Break is an American restaurant and bar that opened in Eastham, Massachusetts in May 2012. It was founded by Mackenzie Gallant. After graduating from high school, he realized the difficulties of finding success on the Cape so he decided to enroll at Hartwick College in upstate New York. Gallant soon became homesick and decided to move right back to the Cape after graduating. He had worked in the restaurant business since he was 14: starting out as a dishwater and eventually moving into management positions. He soon realized that the only way that he would be successful in this industry was if he was his own boss. He found a restaurant space in North Eastham that was previously home to Rick's Outer Bar and completely remodeled it. All of the dishes on Local Break's menu are crafted with fresh, local ingredients. The bar also has an impressive list of local craft beers on tap. Unlike many Cape Cod restaurants that close down during the colder months, Local Break is open year-round. My extended family and I visited Local Break this past August during our week-long trip to the Cape. The restaurant was right down the street from our Airbnb and we had heard good things. We enjoyed the nautical decor and the staff were friendly and helpful. For cocktails, my wife had the "Strawberry Peach Lemonade" (Deep Eddy peach vodka, strawberry purée, lemonade, fresh lemon) and I had the "Woodford Reserve Maple Old Fashion" (muddled cherry, orange, maple simple syrup, Angostura bitters, Woodford Reserve Bourbon, splash of water, ice). Both were very flavorful! Among our whole party, the entrees we ordered were the "Pulled BBQ Chicken Sandwich" (pulled baked BBQ chicken served on a Kaiser roll, topped with fried onion rings and coleslaw), the "Romesco Fish Sandwich" (fried cod with house made Romesco sauce, lettuce, pickles), the "Hot Chicken Sandwich" (crispy fried chicken thigh, sweet pickles, house made coleslaw, brown sugar-hot sauce, Kaiser bun), the "Po' Boy" (beer battered fried shrimp, baby greens, tomato, chili garlic mayo, baguettini) and the "Kid's Tenders". I am Updating a review from 4 years ago-- my sister and I came here again after a year's absence and enjoyed an early dinner. She had a glass of Sauvignon blanc, I enjoyed a Hog Island red ale- very refreshing. We ordered clam chowder and decided it was the best clam chowder we've had this on this visit to Cape Cod - and we had chowder at 3 other well known fish restaurants before this! This chowder was creamy and full of clams & potato- and with no bacon overpowering the flavor of the clams. (I like bacon, just not in chowder!) We split an order of the scallops risotto and a garden salad. Both were excellent & the scallop dish was large enough that we took some of it home! Our server was very good, very nice and accommodating, and everything came out quickly. Ambiance is of a sports bar- surfing and football filled the two screens we could see. Went on a Thursday night off season. Food was very good. Service was miserable. Missing items from our order. Asked for items several times, but never received. Ordered wings and asked for ranch dressing 4 times. Finally came after everyone was finished eating. Ordered drinks that never arrived. Ordered burgers with salad instead of fries order came with fries and salad came after our check. Overheard waiter tell people at the next table that their order had not been put in after they had already been sitting there for over 45 minutes. Spoke to Manager who said they short staffed on purpose so wait staff working got more tips. Calling B.S. on that. At least apologize and tell me someone called in sick, that I can empathize with, saying it was on purpose and you sent staff home was not the right response! Next time I might do take out... maybe. We went to the ocean to watch the sunset and because of that it was after 8 and practically all the restaurants on route six were closed or closing. We elected to come back to the local break since we were here two nights ago and had such a great experience. Tonight we ordered the clam appetizer which was absolutely amazing. It was made with olives, grape tomatoes, capers, white wine and obviously the clams. It was to die for. Served with two pieces of Crostini it was the perfect appetizer to share. For the entrée we got the house cheeseburger which was also amazing. We elected to upgrade to the sweet potato fries with the most amazing Cajun maple dipping sauce. The waitress, Erin, was nice enough to even split the burger for us on two separate plates. For dessert we got the Keylime tart and a s of carrot cake, both of which were divine. My fiance and I have been going here our first night in Cape Cod for the last eight years. We weren't really sure what to expect with all of the COVID-19 stuff... Atmosphere: The atmosphere was definitely different because of COVID. They have opened up outside dinning, but we opted to sit indoors because it was so hot. The inside looks very empty because the middle tables are all cleared out. It wasn't very crowded and we were able to score a high top table by the window. It was the same tavern/bar feel - dark, rustic, sports-on-TV place as usual, just more empty. Service: This is the hardest part of the review to write because making judgements on staff due to COVID is challenging. I think overall they were doing the best they could. I felt safe in the sense that they were being compliant with all the current restrictions. It was a little frustrating that after we got seated no one paid any attention to us which is not typical based on past years. The bar tender did end up taking our drink and food orders in attempts to help out the other staff as they were busy with customers outside. It's nice to see teamwork amongst these unique times. When our food was brought out we met our waitress. She was attentive to refilling our water glasses and got my fiance a new beer when he finished his first. The wait for our food wasn't too long, likely because we came at an early time and/or business is down due to COVID. I asked for no cajun dipping sauce with my sweet potato fries (I prefer Ketchup) but they still put it on, no biggy and they fixed it right away. They did remember to not give my fiance the tomato he asked to leave off his burger. Getting our bill and checking out was all fine. Again, these are weird times and it's not really fair to be critical. We've generally always had good service when we've gone. Food: My fiance and I got the same thing we always get because we just can't not. My fiance gets the house burger and said it was it's usual juicy burger with delicious house relish. The burger was done as asked and fries golden and crispy. I got my veggie burger and sweet potato fries. It was OK - it would be really good if the home-made veggie patty would actually stay together and they put more french dressing on. The problem I have with this burger is that when you bite down, the whole burger spills over the outside of the bun and then you have a pile of mush on your plate at the end. The taste is actually quite good, but it just doesn't stay together. The french dressing adds that sweet tang but they should give you just a smidgen more so you get some in every bite. The sweet potato fries were tasty - crispy on the outside, soft inside. Cost: Prices haven't changed much, if at all since we started going to the Local Break. Our burgers were both $15 - they do charge an extra $3 for the sweet potato fries which in my opinion is a little steep, but worth it because they are so good. I got a diet coke for $3.50 (standard) and my fiance had two beers at $6.50 each (standard). They have more "fancy" dishes that are more pricey in the $20-30 range, so cost wise it really depends what you get. It is nice that prices have remained the same though! The restaurant industry got hit hard by the pandemic. At the end of the day we should all be grateful we are able to go out for meals on our vacation and enjoy ourselves. Like I mentioned before, we have been coming here for the last 7 years and obviously there's a reason we always go back. Yes, it was different this year, but that was to be expected. So if you have never been to the Local Break, I'd say it is definitely worth trying. We will just have to see what next year brings! read more

This place is easy to miss on the outside, but it's well worth the visit. They have a great outdoor patio area (both shaded and non) for COVID service and all of the staff was so friendly the entire time. The menu has a good variety of choices but we went with the veggie tacos (VERY good), hot chicken sandwich (huge and delicious) and the vodka shrimp (my personal favorite). We also tried about half their cocktail menu and were not disappointed, although the rum punch stood out as the clear winner. We were disappointed that we couldn't go back since our stay in the Cape was so short, but I highly recommend Local Break. We'll definitely be back in the future! read more
