I have been taking my cars here for several years. I have always been treated with respect and dignity. They have been very fair with their pricing and I really like the membership benefits. I also appreciate the fact that they make a list of things that need repair by the urgency of the fix. Never pressuring me into anything!! I would like to say that the service I received was great however it was below average. The first time they fixed my vehicle I was thankful even though when I got it back it had things not working that were when it was brought into them. Fast forward a couple of months I was in a bind and have heard they are the place to go to when you are in need. I explained to them I had no funds and would even offer 50 on my pay day as I had a tire that was going to blow at any more. Matt said he would call back Matt or Mike and never did and luckily I went some where else before my tire blew up. What I've heard about them isn't true and I would never use their service again . This is a great place and they do a great service to the community for those needing car repairs who are on a limited income. I was referred here by some friends from church and they offer you a discounted rate on labor if you are low-income (you fill out an application). I got a deep discount and they did a great job on the diagnosis. My dad's a mechanic so we did the repair ourselves, but they did the diagnosis and did it right. Very honest shop. Yes, they're busy so CALL AHEAD. Avoid walking in as you will most likely be told to call and make an appointment and if needed, fill out the application for the discount. Their labor rate is very reasonable without the discount as well. If you have trouble affording car repairs, go see Carpenters and they will help! Now located at the old Kmart/ now Living Hope church in vancouver. They claim to offer a discounted rate for low income people but believe me their discount is twice as expensive as Sears. When Carl owned M&M Auto/carpenters garage when it was on SE Mill Plain he would have NEVER charged these exorbitant prices. Almost $550. for rear brakes? $1000. for a new AC unit when the part costs $143.00?That's more than my monthly income. I got it done elsewhere for $250.00. and it took 30 minutes to replace the unit. Just go and you'll see. They are VERY busy. And closed on weekends. So you do need to call and make an appointment ahead, but it is SO worth it. They'll never scam you. And them being so booked is an obvious sign of great service. Matt helped me and he was an angel. He offered to have one of his employees pick me up from work and take me to pick up my car so that I didn't have to wait til Monday to pick it up. They also have an option to be a member and get free diagnostics and other services I believe. This place is awesome. Invest your money here. read more

I stated up front I didn't need a discount because I could afford to pay a shop price; I just wanted to find an auto repair shop I can rely on. I was there on a recommendation from a person who thought it was grand to get a discount. I brought my wife's car in for an appointment on a Wednesday morning to fix the air conditioning. I told them exactly what the problem was. I still had to agree to pay $90 for a diagnosis. They replaced a relay. and that didn't correct the problem so they decided to replace another component. They called mid-Friday afternoon to say the car was fixed and would pick me up when I got home from work, 20 minutes after 6 even though they close at 6, so I could pick up the car. They came to my house and told me they were sorry, but the new component did not solve the problem. They said they will fix it and anything else they buy & replace, they would pick up the bill. Finally, eight days after I dropped the car off , they call & say the car is ready. I ask them to put the car outside of their fenced area, leave the key under the drivers side mat, & lock the doors (i have a spare key). I told them I would pick the car up that night and stop in the next morning to pay the bill. The car was waiting, doors locked, key under the mat, and the driver's seat back stained with grease. My wife says to say they were polite. read more
