Installation was fine. The quality of the carpet was the worst I have ever had. I believe the carpet was defective in that water literally stained the carpet. WE had huge spots noticeable in less than. a week. It was very strange. Both bedrooms where the carpet was installed are very low traffic and drops of water literally caused staining. Worse than the carpet was the customer service in the office, not our sales person, but the business office. She was rude, confrontative, never apologized for at least the trouble of having to come back in, basically said it was our fault without even considering any other options. I also had very specific photos of these round blotches. I would never recommend this store to anyone. read more

I rate Carpet Empire a 1. My story goes as this: I bought a house in Indio Ca. It had carpets so the first thing I needed to do was replace the carpets with laminated wood floors everywhere there was flooring but leave the bathrooms, entrance way and Kitchen with the tile that is there. In the office I told the sales guy I wanted something dark but he said in the desert there is lots of dust and dark floors don't look as good. I trusted him and he showed me two floors he thought would be ideal. I thought I might get to take the sample and compare it to my house but he said they have so many samples it's impossible to do that. So I picked the darkest flooring. He then told me they might have to take out the tile under the carpet and so it's likely a 3 week job. Ok with me if that's what you need. Knowing it would be three weeks I rescheduled all other deliveries I had set up in the coming weeks put by 3 weeks, I also reserved a room up in northern CA to await a call that all was good. Two days after I was told it would be 10 days they called and said the work was done. Two days, that great on the one side but questionable as to what it would look like. I drove back to Indio and walked in to my house, the color was light and no shine, but I'll take responsibility for that by not pushing more for a darker color and not persisting to view the sames at my house. Then I walk around my empty house and everywhere where the flooring came flush up to the remaining tile there was a stain on the flooring, it turn those few panels at the point of connect to the tile much darker and blotches of adhesive on the flooring top. It was so unprofessional I could believe a company of over 40 years in Indio, with several recommendations from people living in the area could walk out and consider it to be a completed job. The next day I had a grout cleaner come out and pointed it to him, he tried some soft cleaner ( because he said Laminate is sensitive to certain cleaning chemicals. It looked good when he left and I thought the problem was gone. But after 10 days the adhesive is once again showing itself. This time I called Carpet Empire and explained my disatisfaction. They told me they would get a man out ASAP and would call me that same day. I was thinking today or tomorrow. The next day no update ( I get the feeling they have no regard to my schedule). I get the same person from the day before and she said she forgot what my issue was. I explained it again and she said it's a quick and simple job and would get someone out ASAP. A few hours later she tells me 8 o'clock the next morning. Ok fine. Two hours later she says she can't get a guy out the next day, maybe afternoon of the following day but she'll let me know, and says is that ok. What am I supposed to do I need it fixed so more of my time now waiting again I've worked in Customer Service for 40 years and this is about as poor as it gets. It's one thing to make a mistake but to screw up the follow-up to fix the error is worst than the error itself. I feel they have my $15k+ and so they can put me on the back burner for now. It did require re-stretching after a few months, but a call to them had a crew out to re-stretch it and it has been fine ever since. The people I have delt with have been great. As the local Carpet Empire Plus is just around the block (as the crow flies), I stopped in and was met by Steve Balian, the owner. What an awesome guy! He provided old school service and was very helpful as I was choosing both carpet and wood options. Steve has sadly passed, however his son Michael and the rest of the team (Mike Tomlinson is terrific) have stepped in to give the first class service that the customer wants and deserves. While I really would like to get into this establishment to look for flooring, I have not been successful in doing so. Every time we make the trip to visit the store, they are closed long before their stated closing hours. Don't come here passed 4pm, when they close at 6pm...this is what I have learned. Perhaps it's time to change the hours of operation to before 4pm. It's so hard to bring a toddler to a flooring store, but we have no other option and then to take her out of her car seat only to have to put her right back in...if they aren't consistent with their hours, I guess I shouldn't trust them to be consistent in other aspects. Lesson learned, we will take our business elsewhere. This is who you are dealing with when you arrive to carpet empire, please be aware. As I searched through all of my reviews this is the only one I used the word "passed" in. Obviously referring to my review here, you're not as sneaky as you think. I ordered outdoor carpet and installation. I was told it was high quality and durable. Within one year all the seaming frayed and step edges came undone. They had even cut a piece right in the middle of the carpet. It looks awful. I have called and spoke with Mike, our salesman. Disappointed Doesn't Begin To Describe It! Agreeing to purchase new wall-to-wall carpet to be installed in three rooms of our house by Carpet Empire in October of last year was probably our first mistake. As when it was installed on Halloween Day, it turned out to be a trick rather than a treat: they installed the correct brand but not the color that was purchased! In fairness to them, the mill that produced the carpet mislabeled the batch used by them, which was not discovered in time to prevent its installation. They assured us that they would fix this problem to our satisfaction, and to make things easier for both of us, we agreed to keep the wrong color carpet in one room, but wanted the correct color one re-installed in the other two rooms. Due to our ages (early 80's) & the need to hire someone to help us move everything but major furniture out before installation, and then replace it after installation all over again, we suggested taking a bit longer for the second installation to happen. Some unanticipated health problems further delayed this getting done until the end of the year, with our literally agreeing for the removal of the wrong carpet and the second installation to be done on Dec. 30th last year. It should be noted that the first installation was done to our complete satisfaction. The crew of six men did an outstanding job, working very rapidly & getting everything done to our satisfaction. However, the second time around, they only sent us two men whose skills, competence and effort didn't begin to compare to our first experience. For example, they leaned a mattress against a large work of art, mixed up which mattresses went with which bedrooms, put bedside tables back on the wrong sides of the bed, left gaps between the edges of the carpet and room walls, and put a very noticeable and unattractive seam across the width of the carpet in the master bedroom that even our housekeeper said was not there with the first installation. Our efforts to correct these problems have met with verbal assurances from the salesman but resistive argumentation with an apparent business manager. We were told that drawings which we were never given or shown, for example, had such a seam in it. Our response to this was that if there was any such seam the first time around, it was not visible; but the second time around it was very poorly done, very visible and very unsightly. When my wife asked this business manager person to have someone come to our home to inspect this and other install problems, the response was to hang up the telephone on her. Bottom line at this point it to suggest anyone might want to look elsewhere if they are interested in purchasing carpet to be installed in their homes in the Coachella Valley. In our opinion, Empire offers competitive pricing, a lot of favorable assurances, but not much else as to quality of workmanship or effective resolution of problems created by them. Caveat Emptor!!! read more
