I had an exceptional experience working with Sam from Carpetland in Livermore selecting and installing new flooring. While I had gone to a number of different local flooring stores first, I found it difficult to get basic questions answered about determining possible moisture issues first on my concrete slab before selecting a replacement carpet or hard surface flooring. Becoming more wary, I started looking more carefully at online reviews and found that Sam had very positive reviews for his expertise and quality of service. Sam first coached me through completing an initial DIY moisture test on the slab. Next, he guided me through the process of selecting hard surface flooring options, along with taking multiple samples home several times to test in each room at different times of day with different lighting and furniture to get the color match just right. It ended up that the flooring I liked the most initially was fairly different than my final selection which worked the best throughout the home with the furniture, paint, and lighting. He then recommended Sergio from SC Flooring for the installation who did an excellent job with his skilled crew. I now have beautiful floors expertly installed at fair market prices. I wish I had gone to Sam at Carpetland first, but having disappointing experiences with other flooring companies helped me especially appreciate his generous expertise, patience, and service orientation even more. The last item in remodeling our house is installing the carpet on the staircase. I found Carpetland from Yelp and made an appointment with the owner Sam. Sam is extremely knowledgeable and honest. He came to our house to do the estimate. We told him the carpet installation would have to be the last, after the window coverings is done. He agreed. We got a good price on the carpet and installation. After a very reasonable wait for them to get the carpet, Alejandro and his helper, Fernando, arrived 8:30 one Friday morning and began tearing out the old carpet. They were very efficient, thorough, and did an exceptional job of installing the new carpet in the living room, small hall, and open riser staircase. They were finished by about 2pm. We walked around, looking at it, commenting to each other that we'd never seen a better installation job. I'm a retired mechanical technologist and am very picky about the quality of any work. About 2 days later a small problem showed up where the carpet transitioned to the hardwood hallway. A small "gully" had appeared about an inch back from the end of the carpet. We called and Alejandro promptly came back. There was a small space between where the carpet tucked under and the padding ended. About an hour and it was fixed. I saw all the ads in the paper and decided to give them a try. Espcially with claims that they have won numerous awards 14 years in a row. The biggest mistake. The salesperson was nice but the owner was extremely rude. I picked up the sample in the evening and already had a call from the owner next morning. She claims I can keep the samples until 10am only. WHAT TF? She mentioned to return them to them before end of day. I told her she's unreasonable and bad customer service. She mentioned she was the owner and thats the policy and they have good customer service. SCREW THAT. I was at work. I had to go out of my way to go home early and get the samples back to them. Not only that but they lost my business. I've been in this area for a long time and Bay Area's my home. I'll make sure none of my friends will ever go there. I don't leave many review, OK I have not written a review since I have singed up on Yelp, but this will be my first and I am sure that I will improve as I continue. Let me first say that I am in the business of designing and building homes and have dealt with a lot of personalities in this business and Sam is as good as they come. I first took my plan to the other company that I have used in the past because I was not disappoint with the service from our prior install but felt that I needed to get an additional bid from another local supplier. Don't get me wrong, the place that sells "CArpet" and thinks that they are numero "Uno" does a nice job but but they were way off when it came to price. Sam at Carpetland took the time to look over my plans and wanted to make sure that we wanted the same carpet so he sent us to the showroom and that is where we met the salesman who allowed us to actually take home the sample board as long as we returned it the next day.
