We have used Silmar Flooring in the past and and we used them again to do all hardwood floors in our new home. We could not be happier with how they turned out. The quality of their work is excellent and you get what you pay for. Eileen came out to measure and then came out a second time to make sure the transition from our existing tile in the laundry room to hardwood floor in our family room would have a smooth transition. We appreciate the extra effort and the time they took to make it look perfect. We looked at so many hard wood floors at their office and compared the options to laminate as well. The staff (Chris) was very knowledgeable. We decided on carpet for the stairs and I would have never known there were so many options of types of carpet for stairs! We were educated on the best options and how different carpets would wear throughout the years. The installers were professional,courteous and on time every day. We built our home 4 years ago and had Silmar install hard wood floor throughout the house - 3000 sq ft. Before they were even half way through installation the floor was askew.  I told them they needed to redo it and the response I got was "your house is not square & I'll give you a discount just to leave it.". I had them check whether the house was square & it was.  They pulled up  part of the floor to try to straighten it out.  They discarded some of the boards but used a lot of the used ones. They cut board ends off to fit therefore removing the tongue & groove which now is causing boards to come up at the seam, finish is rubbing off,  & there is a lot of noise. Because of the poor installation the boards aren't fitting tight, there is a lot of gaps where dust gets into and small debris. When I brought all this to the owners attention (Chris) he did come out. The first time was during the installation, 3 months later, 6months later, 1 year, 2 years & last was January 2019. I was told by him that the gaps did not meet the credit card width rule - solution:fill with wood putty. When I showed him the boards that were coming up & finish was coming off he initially said it was a product problem the manufacturer of California Classics came out and told me it was an installation issue, Silmar responded that it wasn't, but let's solve the problem by inserting glue & little nails in the area of issue.  My response was "no"! When a 50 year floor is installed improperly like Silmar did to ours it will not last it's lifetime. I am so disappointed & angry that my brand new home has a floor that does not perform the way it was meant to because Silmar flooring installers did a bad, lazy & improper installation & the owner, Chris did nothing to correct it!   All we got was lip service, tons of words for spot fixing an entire floor that went in wrong.  No sorries, no let's try this again, no financial compensation. So I decided in January I would make one last attempt & received the same response. That is why this review. I would never & I would & do tell anyone looking to install a new floor to never use Silmar!!! Go find someone else. read more

Chris at Silmar flooring is an extremely kind and helpful guy. I sent him an email asking him a question about flooring and installation practices. My boyfriend and I are renting an apartment. Before we moved in, the complex handyman installed laminate in the kitchen. They only installed it about two inches past the front of the oven/stove. So when we went to pull it out, the back legs snagged the last piece of laminate and broke it. I wanted to know if the common practice is to install all the way to the wall, or just past the front of the oven (like what they did) so we know if it's fair if the landlord tries to ding us when we move out. And I wanted an opinion from a reputable professional. I emailed Chris with my question and two pictures. He emailed me back with a detailed answer within two hours. His answer was thorough and full of knowledge. I'm not in need of any flooring right now because we are renting. But I would highly recommend Silmar Flooring to anyone looking to get their floors done. If he was this fast and thorough with me, someone he knew wasn't even a potential customer, I can only imagine how great he is with his own customers. Thank you Chris! read more

I'm thinking I should have gotten dressed up instead of looking like I don't even have two nickels to rub together and not have enough sense to earn them. We asked for a particular floor sample of a brand they sell and at the time they did not have it and was told they will get the sample and call us when it gets in. Not only was their price almost double of what some other floor places are asking but they never called us to say they just could not get the sample. They said they would call in a few days but that was weeks ago. So maybe they just forgot. Hey, look at Home Alone, they forgot. Anyways we've gone else where and are extremely satisfied with them and I didn't have to get dressed up. read more

I hired Silmar Flooring to replace the linoleum in my bathroom. They sent out their installer who told us he would have to cut a hole in the wall to do the job. I spoke to the owner and requested that the work be done without cutting the wall, and she insisted it was not an option. Eventually I prevailed, and the work was done as I wished. However, when I received a bill in the mail (for some reason they could not give it to me at the time of service), it included charges related to cutting the wall. It took me more than two weeks of going back and forth with Silmar to get this straightened out, and eventually I was charged the correct amount. The new bathroom floor looks very nice. One final note: I was planning on having Silmar put in hardwood floors in another part of the house, but decided to hold off on this given the bizarre customer service I received during the first job. read more

Purchased a home with $14k in Silmar product. It took jumping through hoops for a month to get any direction (from designer, Irene) on 1. How to add to the existing hardwood as I wanted a seamless blend and 2. Handle simple maintenance work on carpet raising on my stair landing. I had to hound the store (and designer/MOD Rema) for call backs. After calling in on the no show/no call tech appointment, I was told (by the manager, Chris) that the service call would now cost me $100+ if I wanted to reschedule as I was not the original purchasing client. (I asked in the beginning of the process how being a 2nd owner would effect warranties). I chose not to do go further with the headache of working with Silmar after that. The manager was so curt once he realized I was not the "original customer" as if I were trying to benefit from a sale that was not mine. Clearly they stand behind the dollar coming in - not the product going out. What the manager failed to take in account was the original reason for my call...the 4 remaining areas of my home that I am buying hardwood for. Had the designer told him that I'm sure he would have been more pleasant. Shame! read more

Silmar has installed wood floor and carpet in my home as well as I've purchased custom sized area rugs. I was extremely pleased when a few years later, Silmar fulfilled their guarantee in stretching the rug at no additional cost when it started to bunch up by the door way. Update: Silmar contacted me after I submitted this review and honored my original credit request so I updaetd the rating to 3 stars (A-ok). If what I was told is true, I think it is bad business of the part of the supplier (not Silmar) to take not back product because in the end, the customer gets the short end of the stick and it is just plain bad business. Silmar ended up doing the right thing. Quality of the work was good. Clean-up performed by the crew was poor. They did not vacuum the floors or clean the debris from from the floor vents. Sweeping is not enough. Eileen, who performed the measurements, under measured the baseboards and over ordered the flooring. When the baseboard installer let me know he ran out of product, he told me he would get more, cut to length, let me paint then he would come back to install. When I got home he installed the primed boards instead of letting me paint first. He did not want to come back to install after I painted as originally promised so I had to get down at the floor level, with my bad back, to tape and apply 2 coats of paint. 2 1/2 boxes of flooring was left over. I decided to keep 1.5 boxes and went back to Eileen/Silmar to pay the balance of the bill and asked for a refund on one box. She said NO because the vendor would not take it back even though the box was unopened. She said only Home Depot will take back unused product. I don't know if that is true or not. I think it is incumbant of Silmar to do quality job when measuring and ordering especially when they will not make good on their mistake(s). Lesson learned: find out the return policy and clean up standards before signing on the dotted line. read more

We previously used Silmar to install carpeting and they did a great job. In our current home, Silmar installed laminate flooring throughout all but the bedrooms and bathrooms. Chris Silva helped to educate us on products available and discuss options. The installation crew were pleasant, efficient and cleaned up at the end of the workday. We were billed as initially quoted. We would definitely recommend Silmar to friends! read more

We hired Silmar Flooring to replace a flooring project that was installed poorly by another Company. It was Chris and Dave that were able to determine what the issues were, advise us on what needed to be done to correct the problems, and Chris was very patient with us as we struggled with decisions on flooring material. He is very knowledgeable, and will spend as much time as you need and will bring and suggest many samples/ideas that might be of interest to your lifestyle and needs. He also brought us samples what he had just learned at Trade Shows. Once we had made our decision, it took 1 week to order the product, 1 day to remove the old flooring and 1 day to install New Hardwood Flooring in 600 sq ft area!! The work crew showed up on time, checked with me if pieces of Hardwood knots & grain were acceptable to me for placement, were polite, cleaned up after each day. Chris followed up with a visit to check the work. We are very pleased. We had Silmar Flooring install our first laminate floor 18 years ago, we are not disappointed with this installation.
