I experience moderate discomfort during routine dental visits, and his team always goes above and beyond to ensure that I'm comfortable throughout my visit. My former dentist would fault me for this: "you dont floss enough or brush thoroughly..etc" was their reason for my consistent discomfort. At this clinic, I experience none of that. You're uncomfortable? Okay we'll numb you- no more pain and leaving in a bad mood after treatment. I am always greeted very kindly by the girls up front and my hygienist. Hearing everyone talk and laugh frequently with Dr. Mercado goes to show that it's a healthy work environment and enjoyable place to work. Behind one of my front teeth. Then some lady with her face and head completely covered with a doily came in, said nothing to me, stuck her finger in my mouth and sloppily filled the hole. Everyone who worked there kept insisting that the sharp edges she left from her sloppy job would smooth out but months and months went by and that never happened - just like I knew it wouldn't and just like they knew wouldn't. Finally I complained to the blonde haired white woman, who happens to be nice and normal like the rest of us (who were born here and have respect for the lands and each other and not just 'their own kind) who cleans teeth took a look and could see and feel what the imports "couldn't." She told the "Dr" about it. Next time I went in to get my teeth cleaned - I was switched to a new cleaner - who just so happened to also be an import. She poked and scraped the s*** out of my gums, creating new problems including gum reduction. That oughtta shut me up, ha? 'Be quiet and passive you s**** A*****.' At the time all this was happening - I was still recovering from years of mourning from years of continued losses including my father in law, grandfather, sister in law, pets, etc. Getting other back teeth chipped off by this guy who claimed those things never happened or that they just so happened to happen while he was back there doing work next to other teeth near those. All this happening while I was in one of the most vulnerable states of my life was really f***** up. Going to the Dentist was actually me trying to take care of myself and be optimistic in a post-pland****-co*** world where many people prior to, during after after I knew had passed away, among other things. But - I'm better now. So I'm writing this because - when I complained about the f***** up filling the sloppy, rude a** towel h*** left - he finally took it out. He kept trying to get me get braces and teeth whitening and implants but all I wanted was my f***** tooth he f***** up filled correctly. So I went in, got it filled and two days later while I was at home minding my own f****** business - that s*** suddenly came out. So I called them, went back in and this guy tells me and my partner - he's not going to fix it because it would just happened again. I had no issue with this tooth until I went to this place, to this guy and that team. Now he was saying - I won't fix it - you need to now get all of your teeth crowned - but get braces first - so that after your teeth - one of which I won't fix - get straightened out - we can then cover them up. Guess he thought I was some Mexican silly f****t rolling in money, pulling the purse strings or something. It's been about a year and a half and there's still a hole in my tooth that I got when I was in an extremely vulnerable place that they took advantage of - but I'm better now. Today I had to go through the parking lot of that place to avoid the traffic from that restaurant next door that s*****ly replaced the lawn with rocks so they can be an upscale fish bowl, and came across the secretaries and assistants that work there. They all started saying hi like they didn't know what happened. I said nothing but that seems to have led them to believe they should say it with bigger, more "confident" smiles and louder - so I said - I still have a hole in my tooth. The girl from the front desk who tells everyone what to do just started laughing. So. I decided to write these truthful events. This is for you, girl.

Once ready I was started with X-rays, then a check for gum health where they were very thorough in getting an analysis done across my overall dental health. Dr. Anna Kim and her assistant were super kind and perceptive to any pain that I was experiencing during getting my cavities filled and the teeth cleaning. I am usually very fearful of the dentist and avoid going (so it has been a very long time since my last visit) but they made me feel welcome and were overall very warm!

Word of advise... prior to booking an appt always get an estimate from your dental insurance what they will pay because their fees are very high and some x-rays are usually unnecessary. I had a bad experience with them as I am sure you can tell. Second is I went in for a second opinion on a crown and came out with a recommendation for 5 teeth to be pulled and 5 implants. No Joke. Third they charged me for a whole mouth x-ray when I just had one and sent them copies. Didn't matter they required it (my mistake). I paid in full and they billed my insurance. My insurance only paid a small portion of their charge because of course they already paid the first dentist. They did not reimburse me even the small amount until I called and and was told I had "cheap" insurance. Oh boy, that set me off.

I have seen some phenomenal employees come and retire from his practice. I was really surprised with the care I received from the other employees today. I had a very new dental assistant try and take X-rays today. First and foremost it would have been nice is she introduced herself and explained that she was new. It took over 20 tries for her to get six properly placed X-rays for my visit today. Maybe it would be nice for the dental assistants to introduce themselves and make patients feel comfortable? (Except for one, one star office that looked filthy and shady AF-no thank you) A friend referred me to Dr. Shieh. The office staff were fantastic, got me in the next day! There were some complcation before the procedure, but their whole team worked to get it resolved very quickly. The extraction was quick & painless. Their office doesn't take Healthnet dental so I did private pay. The cost was very reasonable. I actually tried to give them more $ because they had gone above and beyond to help me out of a painful & dangerous situation. Additionally the lobby and treatment room were clean and comfortable. Their equipment was obviously new. I was able to see X-rays on large, easy to see monitor, thoughtfully swiveling above patient chair, details like that showing that they are very patient centered.
