No wonder this place has 3 stars. I came here with my brother and holy smokes the service was trash. I would have had a better experience at Chipotle. The server was a dingleberry and it took forever to be serviced. 30 min wait on food 30 min wait for some water. They also took forever to clear our table. The ONLY reason I'm giving a 4 star rating is for the food. I've been for lunch and dinner and both times the food was top notch. The service is a different story. After being seated by a male waiter, a nonchalant female waitress took our order. No smiles. Nothing. She didn't bother to come back to check in to see if we needed anything. My husband wanted his drink refilled. She kept running back to the front to check her phone. I expressed my disappointment with the male waiter and he said he would address it with her. Yesterday I arrived at 1 and was not told that they close at 2. The website doesn't state this, nor were we told at any time during service. I have yet to find super great Mexican food...until then there are places like Carretas. The food and service was good but nothing stood out to entice me to re-visit. They offer a lunch menu but many of the options do not come with rice n beans so I had to order off of the regular menu. They offer typical chips and salsa before your entree. It was freeeezing in the place during lunch and we requested to have them put the heat on...no luck..i mean every customer was eating with a jacket or coat on...doesnt make for the most comfortable dining experience. We tried the tortilla soup and the avocado fries as appetizers; the tortilla soup tastes great and the avocado fries and definitely something different to try... the chipotle sauce is spicy so if you like spicy, you will love this appetizer. I had the green enchiladas and they were super delicious, I would've preferred shredded chicken because they cut the chicken in small chunks but overall they were good. Great interior and great mostly great service, the biggest thing taking down this rating is the food unfortunately. Coriqueso was pretty spot-on, and I absolutely would recommend it, however I got the El Poblano with 1 beef taco, 1 cheese enchilada, and 1 Chile rellano and a whole lot went wrong. Taco was pretty average, if not the most above average thing I tried, was left in the kitchen and I had to ask for it to be brought out with the rest of my food however. The cheese enchilada was... ok? The masa/tortilla used was pretty delicious but I noticed the cheese wasn't even fully melted inside, I still ate it and found it decent. The biggest offender was the Chile rellano, I take my first bite and notice it's a little lukewarm, second bite was an icebox. At this point, I throw caution to the wind and just stick my finger in this thing, confirming my suspicion that this massive Chile rellano is cold. I've heard people use the "cold" complaint but this legitimately was like a refrigerated entree that the staff forgot to microwave and then went straight to plating it up.. the worst part is I didn't tell my server as she was nice and I didn't want to give her any issues so I took it home and heated it up and this thing tasted absolutely terrible. This visit was half average food and half straight up terrible cooking, that's very hard to overlook. Oh and the churros are a 10/10 though so they win dessert. Pros: salsa, choriqueso, hard taco, dessert Cons: the rest of the food Will I be back? Yes. Shockingly I see potential here, maybe I caught them on a bad night, I'll revisit soon. I'm the meantime I hope this place learns that food should be served hot. read more

When she took my order, I said "shrimp" fajitas. I received steak fajitas, and the waitress/hostess INSISTED I said steak. She was so angry, and she went to fuss to someone else. I guess that someone else blew her off because she took the steak away and brought back shrimp. No smile or apology. I thought about paying for my drink and chips and leave, but I stupidly stayed to eat a plate full of cooked frozen food. A previous recent review said the same thing. Still my favorite place in all of Harahan/River Ridge. The food is authentic and very reasonable but it was the back sports bar that was my refuge for several years till I moved up to Bossier City this fall. Giavanna, Christin, Oscar, Carlos, Gretchen, Theo and the rest of the staff made it a great hidden gem with great happy hour prices on frozen margaritas, comp chips and salsa and conversation with them and the regulars like myself. 2 big flat screens, comp wifi and a smoke free atmosphere made it the only option for me every evening. Taco Tuesday is a big draw, and they bring in live music occassionsly still. I really miss my friends there and have some of my best memories from there between 2016-2019. Needed a quick lunch spot with a friend, so stopped in on a Saturday when and sat in the outdoor seating section. I've been here quite a few times, but not as regularly the past two years as the food was really going down hill along with the service. I'd heard recently that they'd stepped up their game with food and service, so I wanted to give them another try. They're usually a 2 - 3 star for me. This visit was closer to 4 star, so I'm sticking with a solid 3 and may be able to go to 4 star soon enough. Drinks: You can only order medium and large margaritas on weekends, but we weren't complaining about that quirky rule as it was Saturday and we probably needed more than a small. I ordered the top shelf on the rocks with salt. My friend ordered the mango with salt instead of sugar rim. They were both delicious per usual. If nothing else, they're still a great place to get a margarita. Food: Chips and salsa are free, and we ordered a side of queso as well. The queso was a bit small, but it was good. My friend ordered the new Southwestern Salad with mahi mahi, and enjoyed it very much. The mahi mahi was cooked well (I had to steal a bite), and the toppings on the salad made it a true entree order (not just sad lettuce over here). I wanted to be more impressed by the entrees labeled vegetarian, but they're mostly just items with cheese instead of veggies or beans. So I ordered the Guaca Tacos which come with avocado fries as the filling. No complaints on the taste, but still would've liked more actual vegetarian options with vegetables or beans as the filling item. We ordered a taco plate to-go for my husband, and he said it was really good. Can't remember what he ordered, but it was three different meat choices and came with sides. He said the tacos were great, but sides of bean weren't his favorite though the rice was good. I felt the opposite, I ate his beans and didn't think the rice was that great. Atmosphere: It's cute. It's chain-esque in a way, especially with TVs everywhere. They can definitely seat quite a lot of people in the dinning area, and they're known for birthday gatherings. The bar is a separate room, and is a great happy hour or sports watching location. They have a small outside dining area of wrought iron 2 and 4 top tables. I do like how the outside dining area is not on the sidewalk like other places - it's truly a separate little area for dinning outside. Service: Per usual the service started off good, and everyone is very nice. Then, as the meal goes on, you kind of get forgotten about and have to wait around for your check. I feel like this happens every time I come here no matter who is waiting tables. Everything is good until the entrees come and then service disappears, and you have to get someone's attention to get the check. Wow Carreta's, I'm actually kind of impressed. We stopped into Carreta's on a Saturday for lunch and the crowd was pretty thin. The waitress took our drink order immediately and within just a few minutes of ordering our food (about 10 minutes) we had it in front of us. My first thought was, "Uh oh, we have a reheat situation on our hands.", but it wasn't reheated at all (at least from what I could tell.). I decided to do the "create your own" with the shredded chicken quesadilla and the shredded chicken flautas (two per order). For a grand total of 8.20, this is probably one of the best lunch deals in the city. The quesadilla was perfect- plenty of cheese mixed in with the juicy chicken and seasoned perfectly. The flautas were out of this world. They were hot and fresh and I really enjoyed them and the shell had just enough crunch to it. The combination of both the quesadilla and the flautas made for the perfect lunch. I would absolutely return and try more of what Carreta's has on the menu. The main entrance is on Hickory Avenue even though they have parking on both Hickory and Dickory sides of the restaurant. This space has been a revolving door of restaurants over the past couple of years so hopefully Caretta's will be calling this place home for a long time to come. The interior is bright with fun welcoming colors of pink and yellow. The bar area has a small bar with a few tables for additional seating. They also have a small dining area outside, which is a welcomed addition. The wait for a table for two on a Saturday night at 8 pm was 15 minutes. I like how they ask for your name and number and send you a text when your table is ready so you can wait outside and you won't miss your name being called. As soon as we sat down a server brought us two bowls of salsa and a basket of chips. About 2 minutes later a different server introduced himself as our waiter and took our drink order. When he came back with our waters we ordered a medium (20 oz.) top shelf mango margarita and the chorizo queso dip as an appetizer. The drink was really good and strong! My husband and I split the drink and it lasted us our entire meal. I loved the mango flavor and thought it was really well balanced.The chorizo dip was really good and spicy. If you have had their plain queso then you know its good, but the spicy chorizo sausage really kicks it up a notch. For 10.95 you get a huge bowl, much bigger than I anticipated and we could only eat half of it. For future reference I asked the waiter if they do that same dip in a half size and he said it only comes in one size. That is really the only draw back. I would not get it again if I was only sharing with one other person, but perfect for a group of 4 or more. It was delicious and I hated to let it go to waste. The menu has a bunch of options for entrees, but I like how you can do anything a la carte. Who saves room for rice and beans anyway? My favorite is enchiladas so I tried a few different ones. My husband tried the tamales, beef taco and a chicken flauta. I thought the enchiladas were good and I liked being able to get a variety of types. The pork tamales were ok, the tamale was stuck to the husk so it didn't roll out. Scraping it out made it fall apart and there was more corn than pork. The service was very good. Our server was courteous and answered all of our questions about the menu. He checked on us a few times to see if we were still enjoying ourselves and asked if we needed anything. The food also came out really quick! We didn't have our appetizer long before the rest of our food came out. Great find!!! Our group was in the area for a dance competition and we found this hidden gem. The food was fresh, tasty, and such large portions. There are trendier, fancier, hipper Mexican joints in NOLA, but I do enjoy the consistency of Carreta's. This location in particular is a favorite for me. The service is friendly and the dining room is pleasant (the other location can be too loud). The queso at Carreta's is my favorite. Has a really good flavor without being overly spicy. The servers alway keep the chips flowing so you can enjoy all the cheesy goodness. There are lots of menu items here to enjoy. Two of my favorites are the Mesquite girl. It is designed to share for two, but probably could be split by three. I'm also a fan of the mahi mahi tacos when I'm looking for something on the lighter side. This is a very kid friendly place and my whole family finds things they like. read more

This place is so great ! We come every Tuesday for the $1 tacos ! On Tuesday the dollar tacos are the go to in my family . They are meat and corn tortillas, on the side comes onions and cilantro. The meat you can chose from is steak , chicken , spicy chicken , carnitas. They are fresh and good . Every time we come we always try new food . This time we tried this sandwich below which consists of black beans , chorizo and cheese on a toasted bun . May I say it's so gooooood. This a great spot for quick bite with a marg or two. However the southwest chicken salad was filling and two people could split it. The chicken seems almost like it was microwaved. I used to like this place a lot. The food has always been mediocre. The last and final time I will go there, I brought my co-worker because I wanted the free salsa and chips. She got nachos. I got a beef quesadilla. The meat wasn't fully cooked for mine. We got there at 8 (an hour before they closed...) We both got food poisoning... I threw up immediately when I got home. Her stomach was upset all night (as well as throwing up) and she had to call off work because she was so ill. I don't know what to say about this place... We will not be going here anymore. My 1st impression was to leave when my food came before my Arnold Palmer and I was seated at the bar. I literally place my order, walked to my car to retrieve something and as soon as I sat down the runner was bringing my food. I was less than a 5 minutes. They had faster service than drive thru at McDonalds. It made me wonder if the food was prepped like a a buffet station and the only thing the needed to do was plate on a sizzling platter.
