My husband and I visited Carriage and Horses tonight upon a recommendation from a colleague. We had high expectations based on what he had shared, but they were even far exceeded. The food was excellent (the tiramisu divine!), but the service was what made the evening magical. We were seated by the owner himself, Mr. Dagher, who greeted us warmly. The servers were incredibly friendly and clearly wanted to make sure we had a wonderful experience, even offering to take a photo of us. From start to finish, they surprised and delighted, and we very much enjoyed our conversation with the fascinating Mr. Dagher at the end of the evening. Great atmosphere and excellent service but food was only so-so. I had duck and my wife had ribeye. Duck was tender but bland, sides were good but nothing beyond what you'd get at your local diner. Ribeye was done right but not a good cut, a bit tough and thin. Reviews about Dagher are right on. He's a character! But also a very sweet man and very pleasant. We went on a Thursday when business was slow. He came and sat at the table, had a great chat. He did some little things for us that were very kind. Overall we very much enjoyed ourselves. I wanted to follow up on my review...rather than reply to my complaints and fix the issues at hand.. no method to drying ones hands in either restroom or getting rid of skunked beer....or way over cooking food or letting oysters stay out too long..over charging for roast disguised as steak....the owner contacted the spouse of my hr manager to complain about my review... I dine at Carriage & Horses restaurant every time I'm in Pine Mountain. I've even driven from Atlanta several times just to eat here. The food is excellent. I've tried many menu items and have never been disappointed. My favorites are the filet mignon, lamb shank, salmon, and greek salad. The ambience is beautiful and classy, but not ostentatious. The owner, Dagher, makes a point of greeting the customers and makes everyone feel like they are part of the family. It's well worth the drive to dine at Carriage & Horses. This was quite an experience! FABULOUS FOOD but don't DARE show up without reservations!!! On a weekend jaunt and after hiking in the State Park for several hours, we were starving. So we decided on fine dining. The restaurant is in a beautiful setting, but dated. The linen table cloths and stemware are accented by dropped ceiling tiles. It's an old, gorgeous home that could use a renovation, but it has a certain charm. When we walked in, we were one of 4 tables being served out of a huge house!! They asked if we had reservations. We did not. So the hostess said she'd have to see if "Dagher", the proprietor, would serve us. He graciously allowed us to be be seated. However, he came by and chided us harshly and mentioned that "no one knows how to make reservations anymore! Mashed Potatoes do not grow on trees!!!!" I haven't had my wrist slapped so harshly in years! lol It's a horse farm house in the country. I had no idea! He informed me he is 5 stars. I didn't find him on Michelin or Fodors. It was 4 STARS on Yelp. However, I admit the food was spectacular!!!! We shared Grape Leaves for an appetizer and they were as good as any I've ever had. I had steak and lobster and it was exceptional and perfectly prepared. ! My dinner companion had prime rib and raved! Once he warmed up, at my request. he chose an amazing Pinot Noir to complement my meal and even offered us a gift of raw oysters, which were succulent and shockingly delicious . . . unexpected for middle Georgia!!!!! What an extraordinary experience!!! I highly recommend this restaurant, but beware if you are offended easily and don't have reservations. Dagher (pronounced like Dagger) will eat you alive!!! An unexpected gem. Ambiance is interesting- an old farmhouse adapted to be a large restaurant with red carpet and old ornaments. However this doesn't make it weird, more than anything it sets the mood. The owner is amazing, allowed us to try a few glasses of wine before settling for some and made great recommendations. My wife and I were staying at Calloway Gardens but wanted to have a special dinner for our 25th anniversary. I found Carriage and Horses on the Internet and it looked just like what we were looking for. I must they exceeded my expectations. I have traveled throughout the US from Seattle, San Francisco, Chicago, New York, Miami, Los Angeles, Dallas, Atlanta, Denver, and over seas and I can honestly say I have NEVER found better food for the price anywhere. I had the Steak Filet and Lobster and my wife had the Lamb Shanks. In both cases, when I say the food melted in our mouths, it is no overstatement. Along with the main course came potatoes and vegetable sides that were fresh and very well done. There was so much food that we took some of the food with us to enjoy later. We finished the meal off by splitting a tasty Chocolate Mouse cake. Each meal was priced at $40 or less. Plus, they offered and we had a very reasonably priced wine. The ambience is of a country bed and breakfast horse farm where the owner (chef) and family makes you feel very welcome. If you are in the area, or even some distance away, I would highly recommend Carriage and Horses as a must on your places to eat list. read more

My wife and I celebrated our 2nd anniversary here tonight. I had heard of this place for years but I never had the chance to go. The price is what drew me in, but the atmosphere is what kept me there. It was a very nice candle lit dinner. The food was absolutely amazing! The owner was our server and he was just an absolute pleasure to be around. You could tell that he does this because he really enjoys it and loves it. First the gps address takes you to Butts Farm, which is about 2 miles further away from Pine Mountain. We found this place on Yelp so we thought we'd give it a try. Its an old farm house with a horse farm behind it that has been added onto 2-3 times to increase the size of the dining room. We both had steak, both steaks were grocery store quality, slightly tough for rib eye's, and lacked any spice. Steamed vegtables were ok. Service was fair, we showed up on time and the waitress had to finish a reservation before she seated us. It appears this place make its money off average food and service and serving wine. They have 3-4 tables full of different wines they serve for 7-8 dollers a glass. We were dissapointed in our visit, not sure we'd go back. read more

So we've been back several times for brunch and we've not been disappointed. Dagher is still a delight, taking pride in his restaurant and his food. The shrimp cocktail are large and perfectly cooked and served with the delicious cocktail sauce. The smoked salmon and bread and crackers and cream cheese were a delight and an unexpected treat. The prime rib was cooked perfectly and horseradish sauce added the perfect zip. There were several choices for vegetables and soups to choose from along with other proteins. At $14 a person this is a steal. We've not been back for dinner yet, because we enjoy the brunch so much. read more

MUST VISIT!!! We had the Filet and Lobster, Prime rib, kids pasta dishes, and stuffed grape leaves. Great food; Excellent atmosphere of elegant-old-country. I would have driven past the place and thought it were an old ranch home if not for the Yelp posts. {the staff/owner are as good/better than the food}. When we arrived for our reservation, the owner met us at the door and walked us to the table while having a chat with the kids. We sat down and the owner started cooking an Alfredo pasta (on the house) for my 2yr old before we even ordered. My wife ordered the prime rib med rare and it arrived medium (everything else was as ordered). The owner returned my wife's overcooked prime rib and replaced it with a large med rare filet at no extra cost. Everything was delicious. After dinner, my wife asked if we could walk outside around the garden. The owner walked us around the property and took pictures of us with his horses and little pond. We all chatted for about 20 minutes out there while he had a full restaurant inside (Easter Weekend)! So, as soon as we walk into this converted farm-house, Daghar walks over to great us and trips over something and says, "Jesus Holy Christ", right in front of my deeply religious grandfather who tells Dagher he'll never eat here again. So Dagher apologized several times. When he found out I was from the Los Angeles-area, he told me he used to have a house in Beverly Hills off of Wilshire Blvd. (I've lived in West-LA; there are no houses along Wilshire in Beverly Hills: It's all shops and condo high-rises). So, lets talk about the food. I had a prime-rib and it was AWESOME. One of my relatives is a chef and they informed be the veggies were pre-packaged frozen. They were out of stock of a few of the beers I ordered, but in all, everyone in my party enjoyed there meal and would come back (except for my grandfather). I don't know what they owner is doing there in the deep-dark South, but if you have religious fanatics in your party, DO NOT GO TO THIS PLACE. They will be offended. Also, just to point out, there was a couple on a date and they were getting frisky with each other. Someone in my party suggested he was going to propose to her; my response was that the only thing he is going to propose is that they go to the back-seat of his car. read more

Recently celebrated our 19th wedding anniversary at Carriage & Horses. Mr. Dagher met us and took us to our table. A couple of complimentary glasses of wine set the mood. He was extremely sociable and kind. Was waited on by an extremely friendly young lady, Christie, in a professional and attentive manner. I had the filet and my husband had the lamb shank. For the area this is pretty good. The place is in an old converted house. It's a little old and weird, but if you can get over that, the food is very good. The owner/chef/entertainer/sommelier really cares and that comes through. Even though there was a big group, he took the time to come out to our table several times and help us decide what to eat, and asked how it was. Have I had better food, yes. But for this area it's about as good as I could have wanted. The trout my girlfriend had was fantastic, and my beef was perfect medium rare. I cut it with a butter knife! I usually don't write reviews, but felt I should. We had a special anniversary party for our parents. We made reservations for ten people, and had asked our guests to RSVP, but lo and behold...aunt and uncle came to dinner and surprised the happy couple at the last minute, in the restaurant parking lot. When we went in, and I told the owner that there would be two additional guests, I was SCOLDED. Three times. "Why didn't you call ahead and let me know there would be more people??" and "I TOLD you to let me know!" Very rude and unprofessional. Ok, well, it's not like you can't set two additional places. AND, at an average of $30 a plate, plus wine, you probably made another hundred bucks on those two unexpected guests. This treatment really upset me and my family. The steaks were great, but the restaurant could use some updating. It is a bit neglected. We were told there would be live music, and looked forward to our parents sharing an anniversary dance, but...no live music. We won't be back. read more
