The food is great; I recommend the jalapeno boiled peanuts and the CLT. I've never had a chicken skin anything, but it was delicious! Obviously not the healthiest of options... The menu trends towards upscale / transformed "bar food" like corn dogs, wings, fries, etc. Definitely not traditional, though. Seating in here is also a bit weird, as you have to order everything from the bar, then claim a seat. There aren't 'servers' per se, but food runners. Drinks were great here, and the bartenders had a pretty sour attitude. The rooftop bar was great and management needs to change - it was blatant that the lady in charge spoke negative to her employee and was rude to her customers as well, we noticed she was pretty aloof to others sitting at the bar too. I'm hoping we went here at a bad time, and as good as the drinks were, the service balanced it out by being pretty terrible. We thanked them for a great drink and they either didn't hear us or actively chose not to respond. We noticed that they left condiments on the rooftop to sit out and warm up in the sun. I'm wondering if that's a health hazard, either way, come here for the drinks and nothing else! read more

I was visiting Birmingham for the weekend and came here on my first night in town. I was starving after all the travel and I ordered the flank steak. It was great. I expected a "small plates" portion but was pleasantly surprised by the portion size, and the sides complemented the dish very nicely. The venue was also really nice - I like the decor and the vibe, and it seemed to attract the young professionals from the city. I like what they were trying to do with the craft cocktails but I don't think they have quite perfected the art of it yet. All in all tho - good spot. read more

Morris Ave in Birmingham, AL is often "slept on." This historic corner of the city is home to cool spaces, eateries, bars and my favorite combination of all those: Carrigan's. I first found this place when I met an old friend for drinks. My last and most treasured encounter was on my epic bar crawl in the city. I invited around 10 friends to meet me downtown and enjoy the last days of my Alabama residency. Carrigan's was ideal because of their cool patio space, lit with a string of hanging lights. Their menu at night is eclectic and cool. You can get bison chili or shrimp; fries or light snacks. And the house punch is strong and delightful. This spot attracts plenty of after 5ers, so get there early, or don't mind the wait at the bar. Bartenders use all natural and house made mixes and ingredients, so watching your drink being made is a treat. The space is so cool: there's a vintage bus that's a part of the bar back. Check this spot out for a chill night. It's awesome to meet up with a group of friends. read more

Cool spot, but we made the mistake of renting the upstairs for a private event- a local celebration for friends and family who wouldn't be able to attend our son's out-of-town wedding. The upstairs are can be accessed by either inside or outside stairwell, and outside stairs can be accessed from deck. There was no mention when booking that no persons under 21 would be allowed to attend the event in the separate private area, and several members of wedding party, one infant and a couple of our employees were very rudely turned away. Would never have rented the space for a private event had we known, and the absolute callousness and rudeness of the "bouncer" was unforgivable. read more

Customer service isn't that good.. everyone I came in contact with seemed like they were miserable and hated their jobs. Only one person was chipper it's too bad he wasn't the one that served us. Also I am understanding that my service dog didn't have his vest on so of course a gentleman approached me saying no dogs. When I proceeded to tell him he was of service he was insisting it was policy and he can set up a table outside. Please inform staff that you can't make someone with a service dog sit outside especially in the cold, it's illegal. He didn't make us sit outside. Been here a few times and the food and drinks are solid. Have a good selection of varied pub food, served with some great beers or mixed drinks. The PB&J on Monday's make a worthwhile visit. Great new place!! We went during the Art Walk and even though it was very crowded, it was still a great experience. The falafel burger was fantastic for you vegetarians out there. Carrigan's has great craft cocktails and a wonderful variety of appetizers, snacks and pub meals. My favorite food item on the menu is hands down the brisket mac n cheese with a side salad. The patio area is wonderful. The one downside is that the place can get a bit crowded, slowing down service, especially as craft cocktails are such a hit here. They do also serve a wide array of craft beers - especially local brews. They will work with you if you are planning on having a large party come in - just call ahead! read more

Plenty of seating inside and outside the bar. My friends raved about the corndog and the wings, really talking them up, but I just wasn't impressed by the offerings. Carrigan's menu has more of a modern, hipster feel, and I'm more traditional when it comes to food, esp bar food.
