We loved our visit to The Anvil. We came to watch a little football (aka, soccer) with a pint and ended up finding a true English pub right here in Birmingham (AL). We ordered the Thai wings, burrata, and fish and chips, and everything was delicious. The wings had great flavor, the burrata was fresh and a nice change of pace, and the fish and chips were exactly what you want from a proper pub. I had a British hard cider but they also offer a nice selection of local brews. We brought our dog and sat outside, which made it even better. The patio has comfy couches and lounge chairs with TVs for watching games. Inside there is bar seating and tables, which is nice year round. It's great for watching a game, looking for a unique brunch experience, or just a casual night out. The Anvil Pub and Grill brings a bit of Britain to the Ham. We will definitely be back.

Stopped by on a Saturday at 2 PM during Alabama game so I had the place almost to myself and it was so nice. Sat outside on the outdoor patio, and the weather was perfect. I ordered the seasonal house salad, which had pecans, apples, apricot chutney, herb, goat cheese, and lemon vinaigrette. I also tried the roast chicken pot pie, which was a little misleading because it was collard greens with Kaneka sausage and a puff pastry on top, but it did have roast chicken inside and it was creamy and tasted great. I got a toffee pudding to go. Next time I want to try the scotch egg and the fish and chips! I've had their cheese plate previously and it was also nice!

Great fries! Curry sauce was good!

We enjoyed our date night visit on Saturday--relaxed, casual environment! Excellent cocktails and a wonderful beer selection ! Food was good, hubby had fish and chips while I went with the Chicken Tikka. A bit odd that the mushy peas were served cold! With a bit more attention to detail in the kitchen, this place would be wonderful! The fried okra pods were delicious as were the chips! Our waiter was what we've come to expect, okay and relatively efficient. My hubby had to flag down the host to refill his coke, even though our waiter walked by several times, she didn't have an eye for seeing what was needed. I asked for an IPA, and she brought it to me, but didn't tell me what one it was, and they have several on tap. We will probably come back, but this time sit at the bar and order apps!

Absolutely amazing not only does the food look gorgeous here it tastes fantastic. I am not sure why they did not have more people there eating breakfast because I feel like this place is a great find breakfast wise. We have not been able to eat there for lunch or dinner yet so cannot speak on the other food but this is far above the other breakfast choices locally on Highway 280. Staff was super sweet and atmosphere is fantastic. We will be back.

Cool English restaurant and pub with American fare as well as some European flair. We started with the fish dip appetizer and we really liked it. Great thin Saratoga type chips complemented it perfectly. Then I got the burger and chips (fries) which were all very good and hefty portion. They have some rarely found English beers you don't typically find in this area. I enjoyed the Tennent's Lager which is made in Scotland. Nice selection of euro, domestic, and local taps with a great bar. They also have a nice section of outside seating on good weather days. Sad that it took me this long to try this place but now we'll be more frequent visitors.

I've been to the Anvil pub once for high tea last year and it was delish! They served lots of different finger sandwiches along with pastries and tea. This time I stopped by for lunch before heading to the movie theater nearby. I started with the fish dip but I can't remember what type of fish it was. It was okay, it didn't wow me enough to try it again. I also tried the burger, which was also just okay. The patty could have used some seasoning but the fries were good. I sat at the bar and service was swift and friendly. It wasn't busy so I got to take up space lol. The venue is really big and has a room on the side where you can host events. They also have outdoor seating but it was way too hot to go out there.

Had a great dinner here! This is much more than a pub. I think the name doesn't do it justice. This is located in the shopping center near the movie theater. My first impression was that this was a lot fancier than I thought it would be. The dinner menu looked great. Hubby got the fish and chips. He let me try it and wow, that was some good fish and chips. It is not something I would normally order but I would get theirs. Very crispy, fish was flavorful and not dried out. I got the Thai salad with pork belly and shrimp. I was nervous about ordering this because it seems weird, right? It was fabulous!! The Thai salad had a little heart that was just right. Every bite was delicious. I would order this again and again. I had leftovers and we were going to be out for a couple of hours and I really wanted to take it home. They were super nice and gave me a bag full of ice so I could put it in my cold bag in the car and have it for lunch the next day. Service was great. Can't wait to go back and eat here again!!

The food was hot and tasted great. The service was great. The food came out very quickly. The place was very clean and had a great atmosphere.

One of Birmingham's best kept secrets? Quite possibly. It's pretty far out Hwy 280 in the Lee Branch shopping center, but you could easily be in a London pub. The atmosphere is more than strip mall worthy, and the food is incredible. We started with the wings, and they were some of the best I've ever had. The fish and chips were incredible- probably the best in Birmingham. The chicken Leek pot pie was absolutely insanely delicious! And so dang pretty! The only think that fell a little short was the burger. It was over seasoned with salt but was otherwise well done.

The chicken pie was quite good here. Would definitely recommend. The inside was densely packed with chicken, spinach, and artichoke. The pie crust was crisp and layered properly, and the gravy added the proper amount of creaminess and saltiness without being too heavy in density and flavor, which would then cover up all the flavor of the pie itself.

Farmers Salad with grilled Salmon- salmon was cooked to perfection and the salad had a perfect mix of flavors.

Outstanding service! Our waiter was fantastic, he didn't miss a beat. The food was perfection, mouthwatering and delicious!! We will definitely be returning to this restaurant.

Food was great! We got the fish and chips on the brunch menu! Fish was cooked very well, fries were okay but I'm not a fan of chunky fries, fries could have been salted more, homemade tartar sauce was good but could have had more tang to it! But man was the fish cooked well! Place was super clean! Fast service! I'll be back!

The Anvil is our favorite local spot! The chef constantly has a new special and we almost always try it out. The tuna dip is a favorite of ours and we always order it. The atmosphere is great for brunch or dinner and feels nice while also being a casual spot.

But we'd spent the day at McWane Center and we were starving so we were there to EAT! The food looked gorgeous but it tasted very meh. The onion rings had too much breading on them, which I didn't think was possible, but here we are. The part of the breading next to the onion was mushy so that threw off the texture of the whole thing too. The burger was very much like a Whataburger. Even the lettuce smelled the same. I got The Standard and the bun of the burger was a little mushy (similar to Whataburger) and there was not much meat. For an $11 burger, I'm expecting more than a Whataburger. My middle kid likes everything on her burger and isn't picky at all and the loaded kid burger looked impressive but it was about the same as mine. Not awful, but not very good either. Very close to the same amount of meat. She's the queen of the Clean Plate Club and she only ate half. The fries were good but a somewhat too salty, the dip that came with the onion rings was excellent and we ended up using it for the fries. We had 2 adults and 3 kids and our meal was $63 before tip for 5 waters, 2 adult burgers, 2 kid burgers, a kid grilled cheese, and a basket of fries and onion rings (I thought I was ordering a "side" of fries, not realizing I actually ordered a basket and it was a lot of fries and onion rings). We don't mind spending money on good food, but the prices here don't align with what you get. No one was more disappointed than me, I've been wanting to eat here for FOREVER!!!

They have long community tables as well as the most cozy tucked away booth for a group as well as rooftop seating. This is really great space for groups or even just you and a friend. Or, even if you want to go grab a bite and a beer after work there's a long bar you can sit at, too. The vibe is very laid-back, but also trendy which I love and the food is phenomenal. Last night I got the double burger and the bun was perfectly buttered and toasted, and the two patties with the cheese was super juicy. It does have a black pepper aïoli on it, which the pepper flavoring is definitely prominent, but it was still very good. I really love the fact that they do Fresh house cut french fries. It's really about the details! They are very known for their corn dog, just trust me, it's super fun. But everything I've ordered is always very good, they used to have the best lamb burger in town and I still dream about it! I also really appreciate that they have an extensive list of drink options from homemade unique cocktails to beer to wine and nonalcoholic beers and mocktails. There is something for everyone. They also have a lot of specials during the week as well as other activities like trivia on Wednesday nights. Their location will be moving in the beginning of 2025 but go check this place out!

I have a hard time refusing any brussel sprout dish when dining out, and this one did not disappoint! The Brussels were perfectly crispy and had a perfect sweet & spicy flavor. This one was more rice-heavy, but it's still packed with flavor. We then ordered the Beef Wrapped Asparagus, along with the Bangkok Sushi Roll and the Suteki Roll. My favorite was the Bangkok Roll, which was topped with matchstick potatoes. The Suteki Roll was super unique, filled with sliced apple, cream cheese, avocado, and salmon. The Beef Wrapped Asparagus was a good addition, but I'm most impressed with the rolls we ordered. The menu is unique and comprehensive. There's detail put into every dish! There was clearly an overstaffing of servers. There were about 6 or 7 servers for about 4 takes that were in there. Meanwhile the sushi makers were trying their hardest to push out the rolls. And the single bartender was overwhelmed. The sushi was pricey (18-20$ for 6-8 pieces) and EXTREMELY underwhelming. Didn't seem like high quality fish or anything special. Could get similar quality for much cheaper elsewhere. My favorite sushi place that is about the same price point is Bamboo on 2nd. I've been going there for years and never had a bad experience. They have much higher quality sushi, better service, and food in general. (No I'm not affiliated with them)
