It was our 26th wedding anniversary and we were looking forward to celebrating. We were very disappointed. The service was not good at all. We asked our server to remove the plates we used for our appetizer, she said we should use them for our bread and butter. When she brought our food, she brought one knife, there were two of us. After we ordered we overheard a server telling others about a pork special. Our server never mentioned it, even though I asked about two of the pork dishes on the menu. The chicken with very dry and not appetizing. This was not a good experience. We drove 50 miles to get there, what a waste. I would not bother with this restaurant. read more

This place was amazing. Down to the house itself and the food. We had the stuffed shrimp with crab and that was really flavorful it was like getting shrimp with the crab cakes. Very flavorful Then I had the pumpkin soup which was warm, cinnamony and pumpkin perfect way to start fall off with. I for dinner I had the caramel pork. It was on the sweet side but that sauce is sooooo good. Maybe next time I would ask for the sauce on the side and extra. Then dessert we had the pb pie which was amazing. Hart Mansion Restaurant offers perfection from beginning to end! While in town visiting family, we went to Hart Mansion for a birthday lunch for my cousin. What a wonderful place for a special occasion meal. Situated high up on a hill, overlooking the cute downtown area, it looks special before you even arrive. The Hart Family lived in this striking mansion, leaving behind an essence of elegance. You can feel their history on the lovely grounds and as you walk through the ornate wooden front doors. You can feel the family memories and all of the wonderful times diners had once this home became a restaurant. The hostess greeted us as we entered. She was polite but could have offered a bit more warmth. Our server was incredible. She was professional yet personable. She was knowledgeable and remained attentive during our entire lunch. The lunch menu is diverse and looked great. We ordered a few different things. I must say, my shrimp entree was delicious and the fried green beans for the table were a highlight. They were crunchy and not at all greasy. The coconut cake we shared for the birthday dessert was delicious. We also added the peanut butter pie, which was equally tasty. I heard many comments from other family members that the cheesecake is a must as well. I will be sure to order it on my next visit. Once we finished our meal, we wandered through the mansion, taking in all the memories that were so apparent in every room. Up the grand staircase, what were bedrooms at one point, offered the bar room and private dining. There appeared to be a back staircase that seems as though it had belonged to the staff back in the day. The quiet elegance made us all feel so special. Outside, there is a lovely patio for al fresco dining. Music was piped outside, lounge seating was available and a fantastic carving of a lion stood in the garden, created a pretty atmosphere for dining, cocktails or both. The landscaping was perfectly cared for all around. Everything was lush and green. I can imagine in the winter, a gorgeous snow covered yard with twinkle lights for the holidays. Loved it. I had the ribeye and it was cooked to perfection. Delicious and well marbled (actually let's call a spade a spade and say "fatty"......we all know "marbled" is just a fancy word for that, and I have no shame admitting how much I love a good fatty piece of meat). Pumpkin soup was delicious, and for dessert my mom and I shared a creamy light raspberry moussey, custardy thing. I forget what it was called, but it was light and flavorful. The ambiance is quite lovely. It wasn't very crowded when we went and the dining room was airy and comfortable. I wish I knew more of the history of the building. I did see it was built in the late 1800s and I am curious about who lived here, what it was before it was the restaurant, etc. I'm sure there are lots of stories between these walls. read more

Food was great. We were a party of three. We had reservations for 5 o'clock on homecoming parade night. Outside bushes and grass were manicured and beautiful. From the north parking lot, we took a walkway on the west side and the entrance is a small side door. The architecture of the restored mansion retains restored postbellum walls, chandeliers, paintings, and fireplaces. The interior, like the exterior, is well kept and very stylish. All the tables were set with white pressed tablecloths. Lighting was good. One person in our party ordered wine. It was white wine with a fragrant aroma and light citrus taste. Very good. I ordered decaffeinated coffee. They had to make fresh and when it came, it was piping hot. Chicken and steaks were in the $25-$35 range. We each ordered salad. The lettuce was fresh. We each ordered a different type of chicken. I had the Greek chicken, which was chicken breast stuffed with spinach, tomatoes and feta cheese, which was delicious. Underneath was linguine served al dente with aglio olio and spices. Perfect aroma and taste. I'm told the mansion chicken (Baked bow tie pasta, cheese & marinara topped with sauteed chicken, mushrooms, onions & peppers) was great. and chicken Marsala (chicken breast sautéed with mushrooms and marsala wine sauce, served over linguini) was equally great. My bill came to $33 and I told the waitress to keep the change from a $40 payment. Cash, charge credit cards are accepted. We inquired about the upper floor as possibly being for bed and breakfast, but the server said they have been outfitted for large dining rooms for larger parties. What a gem! Having driven through Minerva more than a hundred times and often thinking about dining at the Hart Mansion, it took friends from Cleveland to get us to go. The restaurant is in a very nice setting. Inside the rooms are sparsely decorated, not as elegant as you might expect. Downstairs are three dining areas each accommodating about 5 four-tops. The bar is upstairs, as is a room that likely serves as a large group dining area. Th restaurant is family owned and run. The father served as the host, the daughter runs the bar and the son the chef. We met the father and daughter who are both genuine and very nice people. We were warmly greeted and our server was very good (friendly, but not too familiar; attentive, but not intrusive). The menu is somewhat limited, but all four of us were able to identify at least two entrees that were appealing. We started with the banana pepper appetizer and our friends ordered the crab cake appetizer. Both were very good (the pepper is a little hot, but not too much so) My friend and I ordered the ribeye (14 oz) which was excellent. My side was Asparagas, which was great too. My wife ordered the Pork medallion special of the evening, which I tasted and loved. We both ordered the pumpkin soup as one of our sides and it was amazing! My friend's ordered the salmon and said that it was very good. With two glasses of wine, an appetizer, two entrees, and a shared dessert our bill totaled only $85 (before tax and gratuity)! An excellent value! My only disappointment is that the restaurant is far from home. If we lived closer, we would certainly dine there often. read more

What a wonderful find in rural east central Ohio! The Hart Mansion is proudly perched on a stately hill 300 feet above the small town of Minerva. Built in the 1880s and sparing no expense, the Mansion exudes opulence with 14 foot ceilings, circle-head victorian windows and beautiful hardwood floors. Our party started with a couple of appetizers recommended by our server: the roasted banana peppers stuffed with sweet Italian sausage and pepper jack and an order of bruschetta sliced in eight pie shaped slices...an outstanding start! For our entrees, we selected a filet, a New York strip and an order of the penne pasta with chicken. All portions were generous and all entrees were exceptional. Our friends drove an hour or so from the Cadiz area to meet us, we are about a half hour north of the Mansion. In a nutshell, I was underwhelmed. I have heard so many amazing things about this restaurant, I was expecting to have an amazing experience, and an amazing steak. Meh. First off the bartender was annoyed that we were ordering drinks from her- we had some time to kill before dinner and she kept encouraging us to sit down and wait for a server. There was literally 2 people sitting at the bar. So weird. Our actual server when we did sit down was super nice and attentive. Food was nothing to write home about. Artichoke dip has a really weird flavor, crab cakes were average, nothing special, fried green beans were frozen like T.G.I. Friday's. Dinner salads were ok, just laughably small. Most disappointing was my sirloin- I ordered it medium and specifically said I don't know how medium looks here but I want no blood. It was super bloody, tough, did not break down when chewed. I sent it back and it came out still super raw in the middle, and overcooked on the edges. The server knew it was bad and apologized, but no manager came over and it wasn't taken off the bill. The baked potato and the stuffed peppers were good, and the only reason I didn't leave starving. Hmmm questioning my three stars now... but I would be willing to give it another chance if anyone wants to take me..... read more

We drove 2 hours as our friend read about the Mansion and thought it would be fun. I must admit it's not as elaborate as I anticipated, but it was very nice. We had a nice table for 4 right inside the first room and were quickly brought water (although we had to ask for it the remainder of our meal). My husband ordered a Moscow mule and the server had no idea what it was and even had a hard time trying to pronounce it, but said she would check with the bartender. He said to bring a glass of wine for both of us if they couldn't do the Moscow mule. She brought us wine, but then also the bartender brought a mule, saying she never made one, but for him to try it. It was very good and we totally appreciated their efforts in trying to please us. The 4 of us shared the crab cake and banana pepper appetizers. Both were very good, but I thought the peppers were pretty hot. My husband and I both had the pumpkin soup which was fantastic. Probably the best I have ever had! I had the pork special which was served with a Spanish risotto. Another perfect choice. The pork was tender and cooked in an amazing sauce, and the risotto was full of flavor. My husband had the ribeye and asparagus. One of the best steaks he has ever had. Our friends both had starter salads, which were just salads, nothing special. She had the salmon which she loved as the horseradish crust was tasty. He had a ribeye too, and his first few bites were all fat, but then it became as good as my husbands. For dessert we split the chocolate peanut butter dessert which was great. Not a strong flavor of either, just the right balance. They had a raspberry yogurt dessert which they enjoyed. We chose to go upstairs for a peek at the rooms. There is a bar and a small sitting room up there as well as a dining area which I am guessing is for private parties. We were approached by the chef's and the manager's father, who has an interest in the restaurant. He was quite proud of the place and his children. Overall, a nice evening. If anything, servers need to be trained a little better. Table wasn't cleared very quickly and water is a must. read more

My wife and I went to a bed and breakfast nearby and were recommended this restaurant. You drive to the end of a small street of suburban homes and go into what looks like a drive way for another small house, but you find a white mansion with a good sized parking lot. You dine in a very nice, large home. High ceilings, white walls, big art pieces, including some nice tapestries. The staff is very friendly and though every table was full, our food came out promptly. The menu is old-fashioned, high-end American food, with surf and turf, alfredo, and lemon chicken. Our favorite part of the meal were the small cups of soup that you get for an appetizer along with your meal. The bisque soups were flavorful. The dessert was also very good. The food and portions are good, but what really makes the place special are the staff and decor. The prices were high, but the atmosphere and service justify it. If you're in the area and want to treat yourselves to a romantic evening or special celebration, I can't imagine a better destination than the Hart Mansion. read more

This is a difficult review because Hart Mansion was a 5 on how the food tasted but a 1 on choices for a vegan. There was nothing on the menu without meat or dairy. I ended up ordering seafood. The building was beautiful but if you're planning to go with a group and reserve a room, be aware that if you have last minute cancellations, you will be charged $20 for each one! In our case, it was an extra $80. The owner finally dropped the charge when a person in our party complained about her nasty attitude. They did not make the policy clear to the person who made the reservation, and at any rate, could have offered to seat our group in the main dining area instead of hitting us with the $80 charge. Frankly, the defensive attitude of the Manager turned those in our group off...she was not nice at all! We won't be going back. We don't want any further unexpected surprises. read more

Evening for 4 at the Hart Mansion. Cool old house. We made reservations but there were empty tables on our Saturday night. The staff was attentive and polite. The menu had quite a few tempting choices; more than just your typical "pasta, steak, fish, chicken" options. Specials were real specials, not just features from the menu. Portions weren't huge but they were filling. Meals came out quickly and correctly. The food has good flavor. Not "omg this is the best meal of my life," but good enough to visit again. The entrees were not the showcase of our visit. The desserts were, by far, the best desserts in the tri-county area. All homemade, in house. My wife and I went here to celebrate our anniversary and were very happy we did. The staff and service were excellent. Very attentive but not the type who ask you every 2 minutes if things are OK. We mentioned that it was our first visit and the manager/owner came over with a card with a brief history of the building and talked to us for several minutes about the building and surrounding area (we drove an hour to get there). I would describe the food as high end American. Not quite gourmet but better than the average restaurant. The building is an old house so it has high ceilings and the rooms on the first floor are painted white. So although I recommend the place highly (and we will go back) I would say that if you are looking for a romantic place with dark surroundings to have a meal this might not be what you want. read more

We had family from out of State and family driving down from Cleveland and we enjoyed the ambiance as well as the food. The family sampled everything from crab cakes to steaks, pork, fish and dessert and everything was fantastic! Your restaurant allows for conversation (it is not loud nor were we talking over loud music) and we greatly appreciated being able to do so! We loved having 8 people at a big round table. Very disappointed in the price of the food and wine. The bar tender was unfriendly. When you order a piece of fish that's all you get. Add a starch and vegetable and you pay extra on top of the $22.00 for the orange roughy. The decor is beautiful and the owner is very nice. A little too pricey for the area. read more

Not at all what I expected by the price that you pay. I felt like I was in my grandmothers cramped home. I couldn't pull my chair out without asking the people who were sitting on top of me to scoot in. They put white table clothes down and expect people to pay $40 a plate. We just went here last night with friends for Valentines Day. It was very nice inside...comfy and cozy...we were told attire was buisness casual...could def wear a nice pair jeans here though :-) The service was very prompt and friendly...the waiter was personable and very nice :-) We got appetizers..my friends got stuffed banana peppers..they felt they were very spicy , almost too much to eat. We had stuffed mushrooms..was $9 for 2! Felt that was a little overpriced... The dinners however were very tasty and i thought not very pricey for what i was expecting! Also got a martini which are usually $8-12 depending so was pleasantly surprised ut was only $6.50! It is a def nice place for a special occasion and would recommend for a date night out!! read more

Great place with an awesome setting. Very quite and comfortable for an old mansion. The view of the "city" is great and does not get any better than during the holidays with snow on the ground. The restaurant is managed by a young couple that is passionate about the food service industry. Their passion and attention to detail is expressed throughout the place, but the best part is the food. Price is right slightly higher than your large chains but better quality and to know that you are contributing to a local business it doesn't get any better. read more
