Purchased tickets for an event and turned away at door bc I didn't have an ID. Said my ID could have been expired- I'm not even sure what that means. I have zero interest in alcohol. I'm 49 years old. I'm pretty much feel like I've been robbed. I went to another music venue this week for a ticketed event- ID was not required. I absolutely will not ever go to this place again. We had a fantastic time at Gasa Gasa! We got to try this place for a Yelp Elite Event! It was perfect weather for being outdoors and the ambiance was on-point. They had a mood-setting fireplace projected on a screen, cute colorful lights hanging up, bold murals surrounding the space, and decorative tropical plants to finish it off. Super fun vibes! (You can go indoors too if the weather isn't as pleasant!) We got a few complimentary drink tickets each and they let us try some drinks. The bartender made us a few cocktails to try and they were delicious! One was made with a blueberry syrup and the other had a citrus-pineapple theme. We also got to try the Irish frozen coffee. That was amazing! (but maybe too chilly since it's November! hahaha) We also received a food ticket to Kusina which had set-up a pop-up shop right outside Gasa Gasa. The food was PHENOMENAL! It features Filipino cuisine cooked by one man who is working towards getting a food truck going. The dish was bursting with flavors and we couldn't get enough! We were so disappointed that he wasn't selling more of it that night! He told us that while he does not have a permanent location, he pops up all over the city. You can follow him on Instagram to see where he will be on a certain night. I swear it's worth it to go track Kusina down to try their food! The cool thing about Gasa Gasa is that they seem to have different pop-up vendors selling food out front at least weekly. After Kusina left, another vendor set up shop to sell Indian food, which we purchased to eat. That was really tasty as well! Gasa Gasa has different events (live music, stand-up comedy, trivia night) each night, so we'll have to go back on another night to enjoy it and whoever their pop-up vendor happens to be that night! read more

This place is so underrated and deserves way more hype The only downside is that it has limited capacity due to covid. Wow, what a fun little venue! This place is so cool, with both indoor and outdoor areas to hang out. We went last night for LIVE MUSIC (heck yes!), which was a new band playing on the stage inside, but also live streamed so people outside could watch as well. Drinks were surprisingly cheap and yet still awesome! Relatively small beer selection, but they have a little something for everyone I think. The cocktails were delicious: we tried the Moscow mule and French 75 (both standard/basic and good), as well as spritz (light aperol carbonation), bee sting smash (light, refreshing), and Yoo-hoo (interesting chocolatey/coffee flavor but also tart with lemon-trust me, it's good!) We also got an order of the onion dip and it was yummy-creamy sweet and just a touch of spice, big portion! Funky dive bar outside the Quarter that hosts live music with space to dance. We were visiting from out of state and caught a touring act from Austin. Tickets/cover was reasonable (you can pre-purchase online) and drinks were reasonably priced as well. The sound is mixed pretty loud inside but there is space outside on the patio if you want to just sit with a drink and talk to friends. There's very little seating inside. The wall art and decor are bold and eclectic and contribute to the overall cool vibe. If you're hungry, Midway Pizza is right up the street and a great casual place to grab a bite. The guy at the door is kind of an ass bit bartenders are so nice and welcoming and the prices are great. The drinks were not overly strong. This place is so cool. Alley bar meets music venue meets art! We came for happy hour which is 5-7 daily and has like $6 cocktails, $8 frozen, and $1 off draft and can beer. They have music lined up inside but sometimes on the weekend they will have a DJ outside. As far as food, there is usually a food truck outside the venue but there are so many places on Freret with amazing options. You can sit inside but I don't know what you'd want too. The outside alley is such a vibe. Sam made an amazing Bee's Knees cocktail for me and paid so much attention to every detail. It is really hard to find somewhere with such passion especially during happy hour. read more

I really had a great time here with friends. Our first time. Parking is business street park and surrounding residential side street parking. There are plenty of restaurants to find food before hitting a local concert. The place is small so you will have that intimate kind of atmosphere vibes going on which I like when catching a concert. There are one bar outside the venue and another indoor. The staffs are friendly. The restroom is so cool with wall designs of a mermaid and octopus. Even the stall is designed like front doors of a house and people random drawings and personal messages. read more

Sound was great for such a small venue and I love the decor. Portraits of musicians, cubes and geometric fixtures growing out of the walls and back-dropping the stage, funky lighting, murals everywhere. They have a vending machine with souvenirs which is cool. Hipster venue for local talents and events. Casa Gasa is a pretty cool spot located on Freret St that you can pull up to and just chill. Love the funky and eclectic vibe and am in love with the bathroom. Crazy I know but who doesn't love a hippy kind of grunge bathroom? Drinks are pretty good. Staff is cool. When you can walk up into a bar on a freaking Wednesday and you can just Vibe off with people on music and food and just life. They were playing the Kanye West album The life of Pablo. But it was so interesting. Everyone was just vibing out enjoying the drinks and music. The bartender was very knowledgeable of different food areas to eat and just some good suggestions on food and parking. I wish there was food but no food. Just all bar and drinks. The bartender was awesome and very attentive. I font go to too many places and an album is playing. Mind you guys I was In a Kanye West Mood so this was awesome bruh! There was also a dog that was friendly to all guests. It definitely flared my Sinuses through but that's ok. I enjoyed the environment and my drink. Gasa Gasa is another venue that I adore. Some places that host events have left a bad taste for themselves, and that's unfortunate. If you've read any of my other reviews on music venues, you know that my biggest qualm with them is sound quality; the engineer is also another major concern at music venues. Neither of those are of concern here, though. Every show i've been to has been pretty awesome. Sounds great, fair drink prices, friendly staff, and there's pretty much always some hunnies in here for an aesthetically pleasing environment. Nobody comes here with the foolishness, at least every time i've been. This is a good venue to keep on your short list of places to check out for a great show. I've also been to crawfish boils here, over the Summer they host an event: (and one of my favorite discoveries) Assfest. Yes, it is exactly what it sounds like. Brazilians. Is that not what you thought? I've even purchased a live painting done here during an event, well i won it because it was a silent auction, but i get a lot of compliments on it hanging in my kitchen. I believe the artist who did the painting is also one of the owners? I could be wrong about that but i think i'm right. Cool people. The floor is not tremendous by any means, its a very small, intimate venue, there's a tight outdoor space for smoking, but its' best to just step outside on the sidewalk and have your toke, they're not re-entry nazis, plus there's gonna be a stamp or something they'll give you if its a paid-entry event. There was a dirty hipster there that got on my nerves. Hung out in the "patio" while the bands werent playing. I wanted the aux cord, but didnt even bother asking. Its a cool place. The community voice and culture of a city is rooted in its music, and last night at the new opening of Gasa Gasa the music fusion was slamming and so were the cocktails fo-real! (why can I not italicize YELP!?) Music: Trenton Thomas is a violinist/lyricist/mad skilled spoken world artist, not to mention his covers and dope too! He was backed by DJ Paul. This amazing fusion of kickin DJ backbeats/scratchin and the violin/spoken artist was through the roof! Cocktails: Speaking of fusion, it wasn't just limited to the music. Now I am usually a traditionalist when it comes to cocktail, but being that the menu didn't seem to offer any I went with their Four Roses Old Fashion. The beautiful mixologist wouldn't share her secret, but if you like Old Fashions hit it up! This is a really eclectic music venue that offers a more intimate space to jam out to some of your favorite local bands and a few coming through town that can be pretty popular shows. If you think a show might sell out, it's going to sell out in this space, so buy your tickets in advance. This space has some great funky artwork, and I feel like I see something I didn't notice before each time I go. I've been here with a sorta full show, and I've been here when the house was packed to the brim, but even in the standing-room only show I found it very easy to get a drink at the bar. One guy was working his butt off during the Weezer cover show, and I really only waited mere seconds to get an order in. I agree with Shercole that they're not kicking out craft cocktails, but you've got Cure across the way for that, and during a show I'm fine with a Bourbon and Diet, or a beer. When it's packed it's not the easiest to get back and forth to the bathroom so make sure you've got one of those great friends that will grab your hand and not give to shiz about pushing people out of the way. I came here while visiting New Orleans with a group of friends because, luckily, a great band was in town at the same time. Not knowing what to expect, we were pleasantly surprised by the divey ambiance that was kitschy but not dirty. Both bands, including the one that we came to see, sounded great in the small space. The geometric screen available added a nice visual touch to the performance. The drinks here were just okay, but they were out of one of the ingredients needed to make it, so I'm sure that's why. All and all, next time I'm in the area I would definitely return for another show. read more

I saw Mutemath here for a concert on Oct. 8, 2015 (my husband and I flew down from NY just for the show :) amazing trip). We lined up an hour before showtime, but as staff walked up and down IDing people for alcohol bracelets around 7:20 (twenty minutes after doors were to open), they decided to open the doors by the patio and the doors by the record store. This basically meant that those that just lined up about 10 minutes before doors opened had a better shot at getting up front to the stage than those that were waiting an hour or more. It wasn't a huge deal to me (hubs and I always scope out a spot off to the side where we can get a place to lean that's close but not way up front), but it was a pretty crappy thing to do. Second, the acoustics were questionable at times during the opening and main act. I've been to many mutemath shows over the years, and I've never heard a show where high-pitched feedback from the microphone incessantly towards the end of the show. It was an amazing show, and I loved how intimate and close yoi were in the venue no matter where you were. It was an experience I will always cherish and never forget. read more

I had been hearing about Gasa Gasa and I was very excited to attend a Madri gras party. I was underwhelmed. I get it though. It's a dive club. You go there to see indie bands you love that are still underground. It's cool, it's hip, I dig. The bar offered exciting speciality drinks for $7 each. 3 of the 4 specials featured ginger beer, which I love, but there was a sign posted stating "no more Ginger Beer". It's a small venue and it gets crowded. No kitchen, that I noticed but Dat Dog, Liberty Cheesesteaks, Blaze Pizza, Dominos and Halal Guys are right there. So if you find your hot, overcrowded, hungry or tired...relief is a few steps away. read more

This is a fun spot tucked into Freret St for live music. They have an awesome assortment of bands that come so you can really see anyone. They seem to have a relatively expensive cover every time I try to go there (~$10-15), so you really have to commit to having a night there, which I'm not always willing to do. Its a very dive atmosphere with only standing room and a floor that tilts down so you can see. It was a fun night with people really enjoying themselves, but I would only come here for a band I already wanted to see and not to discover someone new due to the cover. read more

I recently attended a Happy Hour and Listening Party at this location and definitely pleasantly surprised and the cool atmosphere that can be found throughout this location. It's a small location but great for small gatherings for musical and other art form events. I would definitely consider this space for listening parties, music as well as poetry events. Drinks: Nice and simple, just how you need them sometimes. Decent beer selection and decent alcohol selection to find something that you like. Parking: No private lot, it's on Freret. Depending on the time of the evening it may be slightly difficult to find parking being it's close to so many other businesses. Expect to possibly have to park on a side street. read more

A group of us went to see Mike Cooley (from the Drive By Truckers) at Gasa Gasa. It was shockingly $20 per person (cash only at the door) to see his solo show. The place itself was shockingly nice. I was expecting to see a rundown dump like a lot of live music spaces. They owners have turned it into a sort of "art gallery" of live music venues. Cool decorations on the wall, very nice bar area, great sound system and a cool "video painting" projected onto a sculptured wall above the stage. The problem was that they FILLED THE VENUE TRIPLE OVER CAPACITY. The place is already tiny. I'm assuming their fire load card is like 80 people. They must have had over 200 people in the main room. NO ONE COULD EVEN MOVE. If you can imagine what is is like being trapped in an elevator where you have to touch people on all sides of you, this is what it was like at Gasa Gasa. All eight of us that went to the concert thought it was terrible because of how greedy the venue was for selling too many $20 tickets... I know a venue wants to make money and that they have limited space but this hurts them for two reasons. 1. You couldn't get to the bar to purchase drinks. 2. Everyone had a miserable time and will tell others not to waste money seeing a show where you can't move. I had to eventually make my way to the back corner where I could at least have a few inches of space to breathe but I was separated from my fiends because they were trapped in the middle of the room. Unfortunately, I can't comment too much on Mike Cooley's set because I was counting down the songs until he was finished so we could leave. read more

I visited here in 2014 for a spoken word showcase. I love the selection of beer because there were ample cider choices. You could have a great date here just commenting on all the crazy art work there. But I also know they always have events which really support all types of local music and that is a big ole plus. There is seating at the bar, standing room and seating at tables. Just a good place to support the people who are performing their art from their heart and not just for the dolla dolla. read more

4/5 funky space love this spot. i remember when i first wandered in during freret festival that it felt really empty, and now it's full of life and funk. recently went this past friday for a fundraiser, and the space was buzzing at a good level, and my eyes trailed the lights towards all the art on the wall. the bar was accessible, and i felt their team were in good spirits. my only issue is that the floor is pretty uneven in a number of spots, just be careful. it was pretty cool to be around such a diverse crowd of folks, and i look forward to coming back! read more

This is a decent space. Me and some friends came here to see some music and we had a pretty good time. The area we were in was pretty small and dark. I'm not sure if the entire place is like this, but once the space started filling up it was pretty tight. Cover wasn't horrible- $10 at the door, and the bar had a decent beer selection. Parts of the show sounded like it was a bit too loud for the space. I don't even know if this is a legitimate complaint, or maybe I'm just old. It's a nice enough place that I would return for future events, but it would have to be something that I really want to see. read more

I really love this totally underrated venue. The setup is perfect for smaller bands, but still plenty of place to grab a drink at the bar or dance around. It's got a pretty prime location on Freret, so it's easy to grab dinner at any number of places or a drink at Cure while you're waiting for your show. Stylish looking place, with good use of reclaimed materials. However the music was painfully loud. Many other patrons complained about how incredibly loud the music is. Best place to listen is OUTSIDE. The staff was very friendly, and scrounged up some earplugs for me (which made the volume tolerable but still wasn't a nice way to hear live music). For $10 cover, I'd hope for slightly cheaper drinks ($5 well), and maybe someone working sound check. This is New Orleans, get your game together. I left after the opening acts, and my friends who stayed without earplugs all had ringing ears when they came home. This could be a cool hang-out if there were more seats, but it was a terrible place to see a band. read more

I had a cousin visiting and decided to check out a good dive venue. This was my first time here. The atmosphere is pure magic, love to geometric decors and angles on the interior. I was only able to catch Midriff playing a bit they did a great job. Would definitely be back. read more

I ducked in here on a whim during the Freret Street Festival and was very pleased with this cozy little bar and music venue. Smoke free too which is an additional bonus. Intimate atmosphere and funky decor make this a wonderful little music venue. Emphasis on the little; I would estimate the total capacity at maybe one hundred and that would probably mean crowd surfing to get to the bathrooms. The bar is a full service bar with about a half dozen beers on tap and a much bigger selection of bottled and canned beers. Liquors look to be all high quality; Basil Hayden was the cheapest bourbon on the stand. The stage is smallish, enough for four or five performers and associated gear. The size of the venue makes for great acoustics. There is also a small courtyard next to the bar for better weather; when I was there they had a crawfish boil going on and were serving additional drinks. They also had a little arts/crafts show going on. This is a great little venue that seems to carry some pretty unique bands. They're also a good place to take in some cheap music; looking at their lineup about half of the bands playing didn't have a cover and of the ones that did 10 bucks were the most expensive.
