My car went into the shop 9 days ago for a "covered repair" under Carshield's policy terms. The car code was diagnosed the first day, and the Repair Shop called CarShield for the Claim Number and approval code. They sat on hold for 52 minutes and the phone was never answered - they had to return to work, so pressed the number to get a "return call." Day 2 - no return call, so another 45 minutes on hold with no answer - left another message. Day 3: no return call, so 2 episodes of sitting on hold for more than 30 minutes each. Day 3 end of day - filled out Online Claim Form and submitted for agent to call and review claim. Days 4 through 9: no response yet. NINE DAYS my car is sitting, waiting for a repair that takes 90 minutes, all the while me having to pay for a rental car to drive to work. UPDATE - Now on Day 11. On a Mission to speak to a living human at Car Shield who can deal with my claim. Been on hold for 1 hour 48 minutes - been transferred twice. I'm at $440 and counting for a Rental Car, and my repair will cost me $522 if CarShield doesn't get on the phone with me TODAY (because my repair shop is done waiting on this never-ending process). So I will end up paying $962 for a $522 repair, that would only require me to pay my $50 deductible if they would just talk to someone on the phone. So 11-12 days without my car, absolute wasted on frustration. Life is TOO SHORT to go through this. I am reading elsewhere that CarShield goes way out of its way to not pay claims - so they wear you out with frustration so you'll just give up and pay for your own repair. This is a Fraud. read more

In my opinion it is not worth it they find every excuse not to take care of you. My car broke down and I asked if I could go to the Kia dealer and they kept pushing another mechanic in the same town that was quite a bit of distance away from where I was sitting and I wish just down the street from the Kia dealer.. I took my car to their suggestion took them 2 days and me driving 80 miles to find out what was wrong with my car and tell me it was a key a dealership recall and that would be a $125 ki a would not help me and they said you know our customer service God did push the other mechanic quite heavily but we can't help you.. I found that to be very unfair and like other people have said on other Yelp reviews it was like a bait and switch and it even turns out I wasn't even with car shield they had sold me off to some other company out of Colorado.. Carshield is a scam. In 4 years I made 4 claims only one was approved for a radiator replacement but they refused to replace with OEM and fixed using crappy aftermarket that broke down after 7 months.... Yeah 7 months. I had to pay for the deductible for that to! The latest deny on a claim was for a transmission control module and oil coolant adapter both are power train items and both were of course on their list of non covered items.. did I mention I have the gold plan. Waste of money do not get a warranty here. This was a $2000+ joke! While considering a purchase of a 2008 Nissan Titan, I got a quote from this company to see if an extended warranty would be worth the cost. The quote they gave me was absurdly high, and would have had me paying more per month for the warranty than I would for the actual vehicle. The representative on the phone with me was very curt and rude, and acted as though he had better things to do than answer my questions. When I turned down the offered quote, he practically hung up on me immediately. As bad as that experience was, it doesn't end. They have apparently given out my phone number to telemarketers, because I now get several calls a day asking me about my 2008 Titan, that I never purchased! They gave me a quote of $129 per month, and when I said I thought that was too high they dropped it to 105, and when I said that was too high they dropped it to 89 and when I said that was too high they dropped it to 79, and then they called me two days later and offered it for 69. I do not recommend buying Carsheild. Reason#1 100 or more a month is way to much money a month if you really compare the amount of policy holders to the the amount of repairs they actually have to pay for on a Monthly basis. #2 Most cars today rarely break down before 150,000 miles which is the limit they cover. So if you have been paying for 1,2,3or more years 1200, 2400 or 3600 kiss that money goodbye. Most cars only need routine maintenance before 150,000 and Carsheild ain't paying for that ! Your better off putting the 100+ dollars a month in a separate account at the bank. This way you can collect the interest and keep the money in your pocket. I can't say I have ever heard of any car needing an engine or transmission before 150,000 miles. Believe me they are smiling all the way to the bank. Case in point. You can get life insurance for 9.95 a month and whenever you pass they will give you 15,000-.20,000 thousand dollars. Remember the old saying. BUYER BEWARE ALERT: Don't buy Car Shield extended warranty insurance! I've been with Car Shield since 2019. I pay a monthly premium of $109 for my 2008 Audi TT sports car. Has 103k miles. Still lots of life left in it. It's been immaculately cared for. Why did I get the coverage? For a $$$ catastrophic event that could occur. Peace of mind. Well that happened to me. My car needs a new piston ring. The contract doesn't cover that (because it's too expensive). This is an ethical issue. They SHOULD cover it because it's the type of thing you have insurance for in the first place. A blown piston ring was something completely out of my control. And not something that happens commonly. I learned about them from numerous tv and radio commercials. They're SELLING A LIE. "You don't ever have to worry about big car repair bills again" their commercials say. All positive upbeat things said on their tv commercials. Total bullshit. So I'm getting my car fixed at my expense: $7000!!! I immediately cancelled my contract with them. The lack of unprofessionalism and customer support was disgusting. They put a lot of loopholes and shady dealings in their contracts and policies. In the end they work really hard to find a way to not have to fix your car or take accountability. They are quick to take your money but they don't actually provide you with any assistance and they are unwilling to support you and provide any type of resolve whether it be financial reimbursement or coming up with any solutions to make the customer happy. I just contact this company for roadside insurance only, quote was $480.00yr. I told the agent it was way to much and said AAA was cheaper by $100.00yr. Agent asked what would I think was a good price and I told him what can you come down to and he stated he could give me a discount of $120.00 off the original price which is a employee discount. Look long story short. My car has been at a repair shop since 7/11/2020. Today is July 23rd and Carshield's subcontractor American Auto Shield has not approved the repairs on my car. I've been 2 weeks without a car. The repair shop can't get in contact with the adjuster who is supposed to approve my claim. This is what carshield doesn't tell you about the piece of mind they are selling. They aren't selling a real service if they can't get nothing done for you. CarShield will not even take the time to contact American auto shield and speed the process up. They don't care about you once you sign up. If you have to get a repair done it will never get done. I've been waiting two weeks write many reviews of how the service a is a failure. And still nothing. I'm sure I will be without my car again for another two weeks before they decide to actually help me. I hate this idea of piece of mind warranty they sell, because all I have gotten from carshield is losing my mind and probably going to have a heart attack before my car gets fixed. I have a 2014 Chevy Camaro over 100k miles an issue with my Transmission and a faulty carshield policy that isn't worth the $100 dollars a month, for all the grief I've had to deal with to get a claim approved to get my car repaired. I didn't have a claim in the year I had the warranty policy with them but I transitioned to work from home, drive my car maybe 20 miles a week and decided to cut CarShield out of my budget. I called and spoke to a live person which is nice but the retention tactics used were absolutely ridiculous. The whole " let me get authorization from my manager to lower your rate" to calling me honey. I had to ask 3 times for rep to just cancel my policy! Each time he gave an example of bloated claims to try to entice me to stay. He clearly isn't aware that I work with body shops all the time and even by California standards the amounts he was giving me were severely inflated. Car shield is a sham. They do not promise what they say. The only thing they do timely is take your money every month. I am so disappointed with my investment in this company. My car has been at the mechanic for 13 days with no resolution in sight. They claim they will pay $280 for a rental car but what they fail to tell you is that you have to front the bill, and IF they approve the repair of your vehicle, you MAY be compensated. I have spent hundreds of dollars on a rental that I am still in until my car is fixed. The guy in charge of my claim does not respond to emails and does not return phone calls. Car Shield This email will give notice that I am cancelling my contract with your company. I have also mailed this letter, c,an Ellen the auto paymeet with my credit card company and called the servicing company to give notice as well. I have NEVER had dealings with a worse company than Car Shield. I will let everyone I know what a terrible job you do and will make sure to review it on every site I can possibly find. My transmission failed on my Jeep and your company took ONE MONTH to respond to my claim and even then your response was completely unacceptable! I have recorded 23 phone calls from August 3 to Steptember 2 to your company asking for an update on my claim only to be told repeatedly that someone would get back to me in 24-48 hours--never happened. I also emailed EVERYDAY asking for the same info--never a response. I requested 7 call backs on your automated system--NEVER received one call back from your company. When you finally did acknowledge my claim you managed to jerk me around for the next several days and still refused to replace my transmission even though the repair facility and inspector you sent out stated that it was in complete failure and required replacement. Rebuilding the transmission with refurbished parts is NOT an acceptable solution. All parties agreed that I would be back in the service department within the year for the same transmission problem. If this repair facility and the inspector are on your accepted list why do you not respect and follow their expert opinion on the proper way to proceed? The inspector you sent out saw the metal shavings in the pan and was present when they flushed the transmission and attempted to run the vehicle. He stated that it was in failure. My contract states that the labor is covered and yet I was told by my service representative that you were only willing to pay a portion of it. How is that acceptable? Any WHY am I supposed to hear this information from my service representative and not from you or your adjuster directly? I hired CAR SHIED, and as a client of CAR SHIELD I should be contacted by CAR SHIELD to discuss my claim-- not the service representative. My requests for a call back with an explanation for these decisions from the adjuster and CAR SHIELD were repeated ignored as well. I have NEVER received one incoming call from your company. How is it acceptable to leave a person without a car for ONE MONTH? Per the contract I was not even eligible for a car rental until I had an approved claim--30 days?? How are people get to work, take kids to school, go on appointments, etc. for 30 days? You see this as acceptable? While I do not have direct experience with CarShield or any other third-party warranty company, I do question the claims made in their advertising, vs. the reality of maintenance and repairs experienced by most car owners. First, CarShield does NOT cover regular maintenance except in its highest-level plans. It's not going to replace components such as brakes, shocks/struts, exhaust, etc. or change your oil ... issues that are subject to normal wear and tear over time. Second: At its least expensive, you are going to pay $99.00 per month for the warranty, which on the average could go up to $150.00/month, depending on what you drive, and CarShield's risk assessment for the make/model/year and the meantime between component failures. That's $1,188.00 - $1,800.00 per year, PLUS your regular auto insurance. If you are confident that you drive such a rattle-trap that you feel you need to stake that minimum per year for a feeling of surety, CarShield might be for you, although you might reflect on your purchasing decision in favor of a rattle trap vs. a well-researched reliable car. Of course if you are driving a well-rated reliable car with an existing powertrain warranty, I would not even think about a third-party warranty. Yes, I'd heard some people use it in a way similar to medical 'copay' insurance, in addition to remaining factory warranty, but is the cost worth it? Third, back to the schlocky "biggest car protection show on earth" advertising, hosted by the failed sports announcer, the claims of "MVP protection" covering engine, transmission, towing and rental, with people dancing around ripping up repair invoices is just horrible. Remember: Warranty and insurance companies bet on you paying the highest premiums they can sell you (based on fear) and they paying out as little as possible. That's how they make money. It's the same reasoning that goes behind not falling for manufacturer extended warranties. Just buy a reliable, well-reviewed car and pay for your repairs ala carte. I drive a 14-year old Toyota, out of warranty, with 111,000 miles on it, and I've only needed about $700.00 of regular maintenance in a normal year. There was one year I had to replace brakes and rotors. The cost was one year's worth of CarShield, not repeated since. Another year I had to replace the exhaust. It was pricey ... but Carshield would not have covered either of these repair expenses as a rule. My powertrain (again, it's a Toyota) has not showed the slightest evidence of failure, and if you look at Consumer Reports, you can see what makes are most prone to powertrain problems. Avoid them! I have AAA which covers roadside issues and towing if needed, which I've used twice in 14 years for flat tires. The answer in my book is to buy and drive well-rated new and used vehicles based on ratings and reviews in Consumer Reports and credible mechanic's reviews. This is much better 'extended warranty' than being held hostage to a third party warranty you may seldom, if ever use. I am not saying that CarShield itself is a ripoff. They are a legitimate company, but IMHO, the best "shield," is car buyer/owner education that lessens the risk that you will experience significant failures and breakdowns in the first place. read more

I got a letter indicating that I had to "take action" by a certain date, implying there was some obligation and personal responsibility. I called the 800 number and got an arrogant man, who after many questions (what are the make and year of my car?) informed me that the letter is merely a solicitation, that he wanted to tell me what insurance I could obtain with them. I purchased the extended warranty and never used it. I had it for about 5 months. My car was stolen and a week later I discontinued the warranty. They deducted the service pay out the same day I called to cancel the service. They refused to reimburse my money for a month that I will not be insured with the company.
