I am so pleased to have found CARspec. They are knowledgeable, reliable, honest and do great work. I recently brought my Prius V in for a diagnostic related to engine rattle. First, they told me that the diagnostic was free (the dealer wanted $175). Then, they explained the two possibilities related to the engine rattle. Next, they gave me a freshly cleaned Prius loaner to use while they did their thing. Finally, after performing the diagnostic and not finding anything, they returned the car at no charge. They refused to take payment for the diagnostic. Their customer-centric approach to car repair is unique in my experience. I wish I would have found them years ago. read more

Excellent shop. Friendly people. Jon is an expert in all respects with regards to Toyota Land Cruiser and the Lexus variants. Even answered some random questions about Lexus sedans. On my first visit, for oil change, rotation and inspection, Jon spent 20 minutes on the phone with me, going over all the details of the inspection, and giving his advice on whether to trade up or keep the vehicle. On my second visit, I got to back back in the shop and see what was fixed on my truck. And then spent about 15 minutes chatting with the team. I called to set up an appointment to bring in a wheel/tire off of my Camry to be inspected for a suspected bead leak. I told the woman on the phone that the tire was completely flat so I had it in the trunk of my other car and could bring it in at any time, I was told "I don't know if we can work on car parts that have been take off the car". So I was supposed to drive my car with one tire completely flat into their shop?? .... Wow. Sale lost. permanently. I'll take my business elsewhere. read more

There are certain people who take pride in their craft, and have a willingness and desire to try and help others with their expertise and it certainly appears Jon is one of those people. I came across carspec site when doing some research on a particular problem with my All Wheel Drive system. My particular problem was discussed on some of the owner discussion boards, as well as manufacturer technical service bulletin, but the carspec site offered the most relevant explanation. After reading the article, I had one clarifying question, and I decided to send an email to carspec to see if they would be kind enough to respond, noting in my email that I live in CA, so they knew I would never be a paying customer. The next morning I received a one page explanation from Jon answering my questions, and providing a great deal of other context. Short of reaching an actual engineer at Toyota, I am not sure who else could have given such a robust explanation to help determine the root cause of my problem. The reality is cars today are a lot more complex than they were when I first started driving a number of decades ago. People like Jon, who seemingly have a passion for understanding the ins and outs of how these systems come together, are the difference makers when you are trying to keep your car on the road and reliable for your family. If you have a Lexus, Toyota or Scion with any type of issue, you have found your shop! This is a rare shop that provides the trifecta; specialized product expertise, honesty and a fair price. I recently bought a first year IS300 and had no idea that it was possessed by gremlins, or so it seemed. Prior to CARspec I had been to 3 shops and had 12 repair "attempts" all within 1500 miles of ownership. Multiple computers, mass air intake, seals, you name it, had been tried by the other shops. The car would just not stop misfiring and running terribly rough. I called CARspec, spoke to John and he was actually excited by this challenging mess of a car. I brought it in to this spotless shop and John took the proper time to diagnose the issue, then called to check if I was OK with the price and trying the suggested parts. Top notch Toyota and Lexus repair shop. Called in to ask about replacement of upstream O2 sensor and John spent literally 15 minutes on the phone with me, patiently listening as I described my DIY YouTube armchair mechanic diagnosis of my 2002 Prius check engine light. He answered question after question, and the longer I was on the phone, the more confident I felt that he was genuinely interested in helping me, whether I ended up as a client or not. Flash forward two weeks to the diagnostic he just performed while I caught up on calls and emails in their uber-spacious and elegant lobby, sipping better-than-average waiting room coffee and connected to fast, free WIFI. I now know exactly what the issue is, have a game plan for getting it fixed, and have the best feeling about a car repair joint I've ever had. I just took our 2004 Lexus LX470 in for a few nagging issues. The initial call and service agent got us in very quickly and she was very pleasant and knowledgeable. David helped me and fixed 2 of our issues and gave us a very clear explanation on the other - which resulted in saving us a bunch of money as an item that was not "broken", but we should keep an eye on. He also spent about 15 minutes after I picked up the car and chatted about the issue among other things. Pricing was very competitive; undoubtedly better priced than service at the dealership. I brought it in again the same week for recommended maintenance and service was similarly great.
