If you want a fair mechanic, you called TNT and you tell him what's wrong with your car and ask him if he's got the time to fix it. He'll tell you when the time he can look at your car, he will not try to rob you. He's very fair and he won't charge it so much like all the other people he's very fair. My bumper was falling off a few months ago - this place was within walking distance from work so I brought it over on my lunch break and told the guy I didn't want a new bumper, just the old one attached properly. I picked it up after work and they didn't charge me a penny!! I don't know what these other people are talking about. This shop gave me the worst service I have ever had. First of all it's a 1 stall garage, they said if I dropped my car off on Monday they would have it fixed that day. It got there around 4:30pm because a problem with the tow. They didn't call me back until Friday afternoon and told me they would charge me over $300 dollars just to run my ignition cable over the exhaust instead of under it. In which case it would still melt on the exhaust manifold and they would not warranty their work, I took it to Sheleen Grey Electric Auto Repair in St. Paul where they fixed it right and charged me about half of what T&T quoted me and gave me a warranty on their work. T&T is a joke! $300 to remove 4 bolts so they could run the wires over the exhaust with no heat tape or shielding, they even told me the problem would happen again within the month and wouldn't warranty it!!! what a joke. read more

When I connected with other staff over the phone they were helpful and informative. Service ended up being above and beyond and I walked away with a working car and a bill that was significantly less than the initial estimate. Good to have an honest shop to go to finally. I had a headlight out in my Honda Civic that I had tried to replace by myself. Turns out, Honda Civics are notorious for being difficult when it comes to that. At the last minute, I called Tuan over at T&T Auto, just a couple blocks from my house, and he suggested that I come over right away and he would replace the lightbulb for me. Tuan was kind and genuinely happy to help me with whatever I needed. I feel blessed to live so close to a business that operates with such character and integrity as Tuan's. The service was great and the mechanic I worked with (Peter) very was personable. I'm usually hesitant about most auto shops, as my father and step father are auto body/mechanics. However, I would certainly trust this place with my car again in the future. I called early on a Sunday morning for a someday oil change, and they had my oil changed in no time! ($25) I also asked them to take a look at my brakes and provide me with some diagnostics and a quote. They did just that and were even able to complete the job before 1PM on that same day! On very short notice (literally drove into his shop this morning, picked up my car the same afternoon), he's been able to change the battery as well as perform a tune-up and oil change. STAY AWAY! Stay very far away. This was the worst mechanic experience of my life. This mechanic made my car undriveable. He's dishonest and unethical. He said he'd fix my oil leak and have it done on Friday. At the end of the day on Friday, he said it would have to be Monday. At the end of Monday, I was told it was done. But when I got there, the other guy there said he'd noticed it was now leaking really badly. So they would look at it again on Tuesday. At the end of the day Tuesday, I was told to come down; He had bad news but couldn't tell me on the phone. This is a few blocks away from me, so I went down to receive this news. He said his repair job hadn't worked, and now he could only actually fix it if I paid him more than what he'd said he'd do it for (there were no new parts involved, there was only more labor -- the labor involved in finishing his work and doing the job he'd told me he would do.) But if I didn't want to pay more, he said I still had to pay him for the work that hadn't fixed my car. I couldn't believe that one, and I told him that, so he lowered it: I could pay him $450 for not fixing my car. For not even improving it; The leak was worse. So, $450 for damaging my car. The original price he'd quoted me was about as much as, or more than, the car was currently worth, and I'd barely decided to do the repair rather than buy another car. I offered him half of the increase he was asking for. He wouldn't take it. I said I couldn't give him more, and so he said fine, he'd put it back together and charge me $450. And he tried to tell me I could use a different motor oil and it would slow the leak. He tried to bring his co-worker in on this, by asking him which grade I should use, and his co-worker wouldn't lie for him. He said that really wasn't going to work. I went away in disbelief and got a call from the co-worker at the end of Wednesday saying I could pick it up, and Peter had lowered the price to $250. I said it really didn't seem ethical to charge me for not fixing my car, and he said he understood but I'd have to talk to Peter, and he was gone for the day. On Thursday, I went down and Peter said he wouldn't charge me. He'd given it a heck of a shot, though. He told me I should get another car; it wasn't worth fixing this one because the muffler was also going. It would have been nice if he'd said that in the first place, when I'd asked him several times whether it was worth it. "You buy another used car, you never know," was the pitch I got from him at that point. My car had gone in with a bad oil leak, but it was driveable. Not anymore. That evening, I tried to drive it somewhere, and after three minutes it was overheating. The needle shot all the way up past the red. The temp needle had never moved before. I pulled over, and oil was streaming out - not dripping, as it had been before, but streaming. I made it to a gas station and poured in a quart of oil. Within blocks, the engine was overheating again, even before the oil had had a chance to empty. I made it home, somehow, and here it sits. I left them a message telling them what had happened, and they never called me back. And now I've just given up, because I know this guy's not going to fix my car, and I can't go through another week of trying to get him to. I'm suspicious of the good reviews on here, because a good friend of mine also had an experience with them that ended in a ruined car, and several other people in the neighborhood I mentioned them to during this weeklong saga told me less dramatic stories of sketchiness and long delays and shoddy work. Reactions ranged from PTSD-style shudders (my friend) to eye rolls. This is the first Yelp review I've written, but I really want to advise people to steer clear. read more

I took my car there to get some tires put on. Not only did the tires not match, they also broke a lug bolt and wanted to charge me another 50 bucks to replace the part that they broke. Plus my tank was 1/4 less of gas when I picked it up. Last time I take my car there and I would suggest avoiding this place if at all possible. read more

I've taken my cars here for the better part of 10 years, and whenever I go somewhere else, I'm always disappointed and end up paying way too much. There have been times where I go in thinking something major is wrong, and they'll pop open the hood, adjust something, and charge me nothing. Lately, they've started charging like $10 or $20 for something really quick, but we've generally not paid more than about $200-250 for our repairs, which all have been in the variety of $300-400 at other places. I've even called around on parts they say they have to order, and they're always on the cheaper end of the quotes I get from elsewhere. It doesn't hurt that I live five houses down from them, either. It's always hard to trust repair shops, but this one I essentially trust a good 90-95% of the time. Just don't be dicks to them because they're Viet, like I've seen more than a few people do to. Smile, shake their hands, and you'll be treated with respect. read more

Just found my new auto mechanic. Needed a tune-up for my van before a long road trip. Peter, the owner of the shop, scoped the engine and went over the whole vehicle. Nothing major needed. I asked him to change the oil, and he added some wiper fluid and air to one tire. Then he charged me $27. I couldn't believe it. I tried to tip him and he politely declined. At my old garage, it would have been $80 automatically for labor and then they would have been selling me work or telling me the things I should do eventually. Nice waiting area and clean bathroom. Bonus: the shop is just a couple blocks down the street from Modern Cafe. read more
