Ou La Restaurant & Bar is the kind of place you want to see succeed. From the moment we walked in,…read morethe service was warm, professional and genuinely attentive. Our entire party wasn't there yet, but we were seated anyway, which I really appreciated. The staff checked in on us consistently without being overbearing, and while we waited for the rest of our party, we were asked if we wanted a drink. That small gesture stood out to me because a lot of restaurants will make you wait until everyone arrives before they even offer you anything. Here, they made us feel welcomed right away. Now, the food. We ordered the steak and eggs, island oxtail burrito, island burger with egg, and I decided to make my own combination. I ordered the Ou La wings and asked if I could get a side of diri jon jon (Haitian black mushroom rice). They were happy to accommodate the request, and everyone enjoyed their meals. One thing that really impressed me was how quickly an issue with the steak was handled. The steak had been ordered medium well, but came out well done. It was mentioned, and once it was brought to the chef's attention, the chef came back just a couple of minutes later with the steak prepared the way it was originally requested. A big deal wasn't made about it, so the fact that he took the initiative to correct it so quickly said a lot to me about how seriously they take their customers and food. And then there was the kremas! I noticed that they had a cocktail called Café Kremas, which is essentially an espresso version of a traditional kremas. It sounded interesting, but I really wanted to try the kremas by itself. I asked, and they were more than happy to accommodate me. Again, that willingness to listen and make the customer happy really stood out. The ambiance is beautiful. Everything feels thoughtfully designed, from the aesthetics to the layout. There's a separate bar area, and you can actually see the chefs working and preparing the food, which adds to the experience. Ou La is doing something special. The food was good, the atmosphere is beautiful, but what really stood out to me was the service. The staff was pleasant, attentive, professional, and clearly focused on making sure the customers were taken care of. If you're thinking about eating at this restaurant, I'm telling you to do it. Support this business and tip well. We need more restaurants that understand great food is only part of the experience. Customer service is important, and Ou La gets that. There is metered parking directly in front of the restaurant. If those spots are full, there's additional parking in the lot behind the restaurant near the church. I would also suggest making a reservation, especially if you're planning to go during a busy brunch or dinner service.

I really wanted to like this place, and I did, for some aspects…read more The food was delicious. The flavors were all incredible, from appetizer to dessert. We had the short rib empanadas, which were crispy and fully of meat. They were definitely the highlight of the night! The rasta pasta was good, but it came out warm and with few shrimp. The flavors were still excellent, however. The carrot cake for dessert was moist and not too sweet, which I prefer! The space was also super clean and well maintained. What really disappointed me was the service. We had a reservation, but had to wait to be seated even with plenty of open tables. That's normally not a big deal for us, but we had an event to get to tonight, so we were in more of a rush. Someone came to us to ask what water we wanted after 10 minutes of being sat, after which the hostess came back over to us to apologize that our server hasn't come over yet and asked if we would like water. Much more time passes and someone (still not our server) comes to ask us if everything is alright. We explain that no one has taken our order, which she apologized for and took our order for us. She then had to come back over because she forgot to include what protein we picked for our pasta. Finally, our server came over to us. We explained that we had already ordered. More hiccups continued throughout the night, including a long wait for the check, never being brought a dessert menu after asking, etc. I'm not one to complain about service, I just think they could be more efficient. At the time we arrived, there were only a few other tables seated in our area. It wasn't super busy, and there were a lot of people working. We overheard staff whispering about who was supposed to be taking care of us, and it still took time for someone to come over and help us. I think the staff knew we overheard or were disappointed in the service, because our dessert was free, and we received a bread basket as well. I'd love to give them another chance, just maybe not if I have plans after.

For starters we had the shrimp tacos!!! $17 for 2 but worth every penny! And they were by far The best I've ever had!! Very fresh toppings and perfectly seasoned. And I loved the green sauce they topped it with. For dinner my husband and I split the $19 classic burger and substituted the fries for a Caesar salad. We also subbed the cheddar cheese for the smoked Gouda and omg chefs kiss!! Ordered it medium and It was cooked perfectly! For drinks we had a coke soda $3.50 and an uptown girl (lychee martini) $14 Both were good. The servers were really nice. The vibe was laid back. The volume of the music was perfect. The bathrooms were really clean. If ever in the area again I'd definitely come back!

I had the truffle mushroom, my sister at the French dip, and honestly I dont remember which burger the other was because I was knee deep in mine. Sweet potato fried were amazing. Truffle fries were ok but disclaimer: I got mine without parm since I dont like cheese but my sisters had it with cheese and said they were great. For dessert Alejandro recommended the tres leches but my boring sister wanted the apple pie. It was exactly what it said it was but honestly I left wanting to try the tres leches. The staff is extremely welcoming and provided great service from beginning to end. I learned that one of the first faces we saw even before being seated was the owner. He was very attentive and routinely checked in with each table. Once seated, we were greeted almost immediately by our server. Orders were taken pretty quickly, and our food hit the table just as fast. I ordered from their specials -catfish and grits. Let me tell you, the fish was fresh, light, and flavorful, paired with a type of red broth-like sauce on the side that was well seasoned with onions, peppers, and whatever else! I would dip my catfish in the sauce and then head on over to the grits. Delicious! I packed up whatever leftovers I had remaining and ate it before bed. This place is definitely worth revisiting. If catfish is still on the menu, I may pair it with the French toast next time. Other quick notes: Nice ambiance. Smelled CLEAN. Reservations strongly encouraged. BYOB.

They're using aluminum trays, which I'm assuming get reused bc they're all bent out of shape. So, for this reason(and one more below) I've given 3, instead of 4 stars. My kids do love the sandwiches, and an added bonus are the chips of your choice. Okay, so a while back, when they first opened up, I ordered a salad with grilled chicken. Being on a health journey, I was looking forward to a delicious salad. Unfortunately, they did not knock it out of the park. The chicken is seasoned weird. I really couldn't put my finger on it, not sure if it's cumin or something else, but it had this weird flavor that I do not want at all on grilled chicken. I don't even think it's cumin, I'm really not sure: I haven't ordered a salad since, or a chicken sandwich, bc I couldn't accept that flavor in my mouth honestly, I'm being nice here BTW. To make it worse, there was a hair in my salad. If it wasn't for my family, I would've stopped getting food here. They convinced me to give them a try again. Glad I did, I may even consider trying the chicken again, but will be extremely disappointed if it tastes the same lol Either way, this is a good spot for bagels and sandwiches. Just hoping they will get some normal trays for bagels. It'll make the place look more clean, professional and overall aesthetically pleasing. The staff is super nice, really helpful, friendly, and informative.
