It helps to read reviews by others. A Yelper, I know, wrote a great review of this spot and even shared they would visit it again. I bookmarked the page and decided that the next time I passed through the area, I would visit them as well and I am glad I did. The restaurant is located across from Main Street Plaza. There is parking on both sides of the building. As you enter, you will see the host stand right in front of you (there is a waiting area by there, with seating). To the right seems to be a bar area, and to the left are seats for the restaurant. They also have outdoor seating as well (covered). It is not hard to see signage for the restaurant from street level. In looking at the menu, I decided to order a Platter of Smoked Meats. There are 6 options to choose from for meats - you get one, two or three meats. I settled on just one and got Smoked Turkey (hand sliced). It came with 2 sides and cornbread. They have many sides to choose from (saw about 12 on the menu). I settled for Mac & Cheese and Hush Puppies. For the sauce I opted for their Black Raspberry Grillin' Sauce. I felt I got a lot for just under $20 and I couldn't wait to dig in (once I was settled). The meat was so tender, I enjoyed every bit of it. The sauce was delicious - I wanted more (I'll get a bottle of that Black Raspberry Sauce next time). The Hush Puppies didn't last - nothing was left when I was done. The Mac & Cheese was creamy, but it may have been more than I could handle (I'll just have to try something different the next time). I got my order to-go and service was on point. I will certainly be back for sure.

Dog, friendly patio, lots of good meats and great service. What more could you ask for? We were in the neighborhood taking our dog to the vet and it was also her birthday so we decided to have a birthday celebration here. The restaurant just had a great vibe and feel as we walked in, and we were beyond pleased when they said we could have our dogs join us out on the patio. The menu is straightforward, as you would expect. Appetizers, meat, sides. etc. But everything sounded so good it took us a while to decide. We ended up going with the two and three meat three meat platters, so we'd have enough to share with the doggies. All of the meats were cooked perfectly. Lots of flavor and moistness. This included the pit turkey, pit ham, sliced beef brisket, and jalapeño/cheddar sausage. Sides included a great mac & cheese, and a very good potato salad. And of course, the obligatory cornbread hit the spot. There is a variety of sauces to choose from, with the blackberry bbq sauce being the house signature. It really hit the spot, and paired amazingly with the turkey. Definitely had some Thanksgiving vibes going on with that combo. Service was great, with them checking on us often to make sure we had everything we needed, and the drinks stayed refilled. My husband was digging the music that was piped in, and we found out it was actually a BBQ themed channel from SiriusXM. It definitely seemed to fit the mood. Can't wait to get back up to Mount Airy to try them again.

Our family of 5 had dinner at Carterque this evening. We arrived just before 6pm and were seated at a picnic table outside. It took a bit for our waitress to greet us but once we placed our order things moved quickly. My husband and I ordered the burnt ends, Old Bay Wings, Hot and Spicy wings and the 3 meat platter. We chose brisket, pulled pork and Jalapeno cheddar sausage with cole slaw and baked beans and a side of fries. Our first question: where are the smokers and grills? Obviously the smoking isn't being done on site. This means everything's precooked and reheated to order. The wings were large and well cooked. The Hot and Spicy sauce was not spicy at ALL. The pulled pork was standard, acceptable but not exceptional. The brisket was cold and dry. The Jalapeno Sausage was served sliced and was delicious. The fries were your average battered bar fries. The baked beans tasted like canned beans with shards of brisket tossed in. The Cole slaw was unremarkable. My overall impression of Carterque: it's a BBQ version of Sandra Lee's Semi Homemade.

We had a mixed but generally positive experience here. I have to start by praising the service--the staff was incredibly welcoming, polite, and very attentive throughout our meal. For the food, the menu had some standouts and some items that fell short. The definite hits were the BBQ Pork Eggrolls, which were very good and packed with flavor, and the Chicken Salad. I would highly recommend the chicken on its own; it was perfectly juicy and moist, needing no extra sauce or pairing. We also enjoyed the hush puppies, which were excellent. The downside was the main smoked meat. The brisket was underwhelming and dry, and the accompanying cornbread was also dry. The potato salad lacked flavor and didn't add much to the meal. Regarding the BBQ sauces: I tried a few but wasn't a huge fan of any of the house varieties, which didn't help the drier brisket. Overall, come for the excellent service and juicy chicken, but maybe pass on the brisket.

Prefacing first that I'm a TX BBQ gal - my bar is very high for BBQ. That being said, this spot was alright - we tried the Brisket, Ribs, Smoked Sausage, Pit Ham, Fried Fish platter, brisket bites, and hush puppies. Overall the meats were unfortunately dry, with the exception of the sausage. The fish was okay, and properly served with cornbread (good). The hush puppies were quite good - nothing unique, just done well. The best thing was their Black Raspberry sauce - it was excellent and went with everything. The service was really sweet and helpful.

Pleasantly surprised by this adorable little BBQ joint! Started with an order of frickle chips (fried pickle chips served with ranch dressing). So delightfully crispy and packed full of flavor. 10/10! For my main, I opted for the 2 meat platter with pulled pork and the jalapeño cheddar link. I also got Mac and cheese and the sidewinder fries as a side and the black raspberry bbq sauce. Everything was delicious! Being from the south, I'm a bit of a BBQ snob but I was really impressed. I also tried some of the burnt ends as well as the special which was chicken fried steak and they were also huge hits in our group. Also the service was top notch--our waitress was super friendly and attentive and everyone who worked there seemed like they were really enjoying themselves.

A place I've been meaning to go for so long, but never found myself in the area until now, and trust me after eating here I'll make the drive back! I ordered a slew of things to try from the menu, but the bbq eggrolls were the thing that completely sold me on the CarterQue hype! The perfect combo of all the flavors that remind me of a backyard barbecue rolled into one tasty treat! The portion is fantastic and could definitely be shared amongst many people. The cue balls and the pork platter were also excellent. Everything was extremely flavorful. I'm not a big fan of the Mac and cheese side that came with the entree, but that's just a personal opinion. I will definitely make the drive from Frederick to eat here again!

It's ok. Not the best bbq by a long shot, but not bad either. Creative sauces. Good salads. The brisket is good. Nice beer selection.

Two reasons: (1) Someone I met at the festival said I needed to try their Apple Pie Iced Cream cider. (2) I overheard one of the reps (at the festival) say their popular cider was Raspberry which they didn't have there. So, I knew I had to stop by I was able to taste a few of their ciders on tap and it helped me in making my decisions on which to get (not to drink there but getting them to-go). Not all were on tap, but that was okay. Here is what I got (to-go): Raspberry Creamsicle Orange Cream Apple Pie Iced Cream I enjoyed all three ciders despite them being canned and I'm looking forward to trying others. I tried the Pumpkin Pie Cider (not canned) last year - that is one of my favorites so far. Visited September 2024

I love a Hefeweizen but their Golden Hour was... I'm not sure maybe it was skunked? It was bitter and sourish. Not good. Red reaper is a wine barrel aged stout, this was the best one I had, it was tasty and not too syrupy. The watermelon hard cider needs some work. It was very medicinal tasting. Like fake watermelon/cough drop flavor. Overall, it's a nice spot and maybe I will come back another time to try other products but with the amount of great breweries in Maryland, it will be a hard sell!

Good: food is decent Bad: nasty owner…read moreI visit Concettas maybe once a year. This time was really unfortunate, and I hope for the owner's sake my experience was just a fluke. Now for the story... I was taking my 93 year old mother to lunch, and parked in the lot to the left side of the door. That side only has a few spaces but chose it because it's close to the door. My mother can't walk far; she has to use a rollator. Before I got out of the car to help her get out, she started complaining about feeling tired and hurting from her leg problem, so I asked her if she'd rather get take-out instead, and she was fine with that. A gentleman walking past my car must have misheard me and questioned why I was there, asking "Are you going to be eating here?". I was a little confused, but answered him quickly and perhaps incorrectly saying, "No". No sooner did I say that and he was all over me complaining that I couldn't stay there because he has to pay for those parking spaces. After his rant I got to explain that I was just going to get take-out... if that was OK with him. He seemed to agree, and walked away. My mother asked, "What was his problem?" I didn't have a good answer for her, but instead of leaving right away in disappointment I went ahead and walked in, apparently after he went in. I ordered from the nice girl that was at the register. As I was waiting for my order, the man was in the kitchen, never looked at me again, didn't bother apologizing for any miscommunication or attitude, just stuck to his work. OK, fine, let him do what he needs to do. As I was driving home my mother insistantly asking me, "What was wrong with that guy?". I responded, "Well, I'm not sure. Maybe he just had a bad day". I further explained that I've always liked that place. But I'm never going back there after that experience." Oh well, it was nice while it lasted. By the way, the sub rolls are rather dry and stale... for both of us. I'd give four stars for the food in the past, but would only give one star to the man who sounded like he was the owner. So three stars is an overall score, not a one-time score. This time was two stars... as I'm trying to give him the benefit of the doubt.

I drink unsweetened tea most of the time so I'm constantly waiting for a refill. The good ... the food is generally tasty. The Bad ... they are charging $32.00 for a 16oz ribeye. I know they use Mt Airy Meat locker for their beef. The steak was seasoned well but had a tiny sliver of a bone for what they called a bone in. Also .... The nickel and dining is ridiculous. You get one side. And they upcharge for mushrooms or onions. In comparison... Longhorn service a 20oz Ribeye with 2 sides and bread for $32.79 So I got the Ribeye and about 6 stalks of very tiny asparagus. I actually like the small asparagus but not 6 stalks??? As far as the steaks go ... don't give me the local meat BS or the cost for a small business. Side cost little ... salad and potatoes are cheap. We don't go to this place regularly because of this ... so we end up with a $72.00 bill (wife got a Cesar salad with shrimp) and seltzer water with a lime. Result ... have to make something to eat after we get home. After dropping nearly $90 after tip. My wife and I prefer to patronize local places but these owners are making it hard. I was going to order the chicken wings and a side salad .... But ...$24 for 12 half wings is beyond ridiculous. The wing shortage is over but many places are hanging on to the price increase ... I'd imagine because they think the customers are stupid. Out of curiosity... I shopped a pack of fresh wings at BJs wholesale club to see what wings are going for. The price for an 18 pack is around $8.00. And that would make 36 buffalo wings since you only get half. Disappointed... food that we did get was good ... but value is somewhere close to a zero!

It's a sit-down grill seating around 25 in the back of the store at a gas station, making some good bbq and sandwiches and more! This day (Sep 2025) we were on the way towards Baltimore after a day in Mt. Airy, and we just wanted a relaxing inexpensive meal without any fuss. There's enough parking out front, though it can be a little tight. You just walk into the storefront and head to the back to order. Folks are always friendly. You serve your own beverages while you wait. The food comes out hot and in generous servings. We had a $10 "pit beef" and chose it with gravy on a soft bun, which made it a kind of bbq sandwich, richly flavored hearty thick gravy over a generous serving of thick beef slices. It was mostly melt-in-your mouth tender. A few pieces could have been trimmed better, but the favor could not gave been more delightfully savory. We had an entirely tender $10 rueben on toast, perfect flavoring, perfectly thin-sliced. We had a really over-stuffed $10 BLT with perfectly crisped thin bacon. And we had a fresh bright $10 chicken salad on toast with lettuce and sliced tomato. For $3 more each, we had zig-zag fries accompanying a couple of these, and they gave us an additional side. They were so generous we never ran out! Piping hot and lightly crispy. Of course sodas and teas, too. It was a perfect quiet little oasis with freshly made tasty generous inexpensive food and friendly staff.
