Boy, do I feel like an oaf - especially when crossing the transom into the Museum of Footwear Science and Sneakerism at the New Balance store on the strip mall outskirts of Princeton. Initially drawn in by the the promise that this well regarded enthusiast brand is made in the USA (truth... some are but the vast majority are made in China) these in-store Sherpas really know their stuff measuring feet and recommending the perfect pair to send me cruising to nowhere on my recumbent bike or just goofing off with my newly fitted techno-toes propped up a table watching actual athletes doing their thing. Five stars for a store that still believes product knowledge and customer service matter. That's more than I ever got from Stan Smith.

Marketfair Mall in Princeton feels like a small miracle of survival in the digital age, a place…read morethat is neither packed to the rafters nor echoingly abandoned like so many malls that have gone gently into that good night. It is comfortably alive, which is more than can be said for much of modern retail. The Barnes and Noble alone is reason enough to show up. It is a proper bookstore where you can wander, browse, and briefly pretend the internet isn't actively murdering print media. I also enjoy the little AMC theater, which is perfectly fine as long as you are seeing a movie that does not demand the thunder and spectacle of IMAX. Sometimes a modest screen, a bag of popcorn and a plush recliner are more than enough. The place is rarely crowded, which makes errands feel less like combat and more like a calm agreement between shoppers and time itself. That said, I am hoping something interesting eventually replaces the recently shuttered Bahama Breeze. The space feels like it wants to be fed a new idea. Time will tell whether that happens. Four stars for being pleasant, functional, and quietly resisting extinction. In this era, that feels like an accomplishment.

First, thank you to Melissa!!! You were unbelievably helpful…read more I was so delighted at the large selection of reasonably priced shoes this store offered. I walk with a cane, so it took me awhile to traverse the aisles. I was collecting boxes of potential purchases practically from the moment I entered the store. Melissa came right over, offering to take my boxes & find a comfy spot for me to try them on. Right away she spotted two of the brands I selected, letting me know how comfortable other customers had found them for walking. She offered to find different sizes and colors, when I liked a couple of pairs and they didn't fit just right (even offering to order them for me). But, she worked her magic and ended up finding what I needed right in the store! I walked out with 5 new pairs of shoes that I love. Most of all, I feel great about my experience shopping. Did I mention that she offered to take the bags to my car for me? When I said 'No, that's OK', she rebalanced the boxes in two bags for easier handling and walked me to the door. Yes, I was fortunate, it wasn't busy (Tuesday, 11:00 - 12 timeframe), but I applaud excellent service when I receive it, and the service was EXCELLENT. (Melissa did say that Saturdays could be crazy busy.) If you are someone like me, who could use a little extra time and attention shoe shopping, I suggest you try this FAMOUS FOOTWEAR and definitely ask for MELISSA. (I told her I am calling in advance the next time I shop there to make sure she is working. And, believe me that visit will be soon.) Your very happy customer

Terrible customer service…read more Came in a little before 6pm on a weekday night looking to exchange a shoe to a size up. It was not in stock in that color and I wanted to try on the next size up in other color to see if it was the correct size to order. A woman who I guess was the manager started barking right away that they were going to close in 2 min. All I needed to do was try on the next size up in a diff color to see if I should order that size in my color. There was another family there shopping and trying on shoes. The woman said aggressively several times for people to come to register since they were going to close. So I rushed up to see what I needed to do to process my exchange. But she was not ready!!! There was confusion about the receipt, she pulled up the wrong account and wanted to send my exchange shoes to another state--it was a giant mess and the base of it was her rudeness and rushing of customers! If you want to CLOSE the store at 6pm, you need to have last customer enter at 5:30, 5:45. If you let customers IN at 5:55, then you really can't be barking at them to finish by 6pm!!! Honest to God, who ever would expect a big box store to close at 6pm anyhow??? The other two errands we were running stayed open until 8pm and 9pm!!! When I looked at the clock in my car after leaving, it was 6:08. Geez! 8 min past closing time. The other family, a man with two daughters just ignored her barking, came up to be rung up behind me and left the store after me. Good grief! Such an unpleasant experience! I'll think twice before coming here again! If you let a customer come in, then give them good service! Sometimes you might have to stay 15 min longer!

I used to go to this mall plenty of times in the past when I still lived in New Jersey. However, as…read morethe years have gone on the mall has degraded over time for most of the same reasons as to why many malls today are going out. The stores are all going out due to too much online shopping, as well as shoplifting, and of course the variety of stores shrinking over time. The mall used to have a much better variety of stores in the past from a toy store, a Wendy's, a Chick-fil A, and many other stores that are no longer a part of it. The mall today is almost completely barren and empty with little to no surviving stores left which is sad. Sure it has been modernized and renovated over the years to help give it a more modern feel, but it is only a matter of time before it is completely gone and torn down to make room for another warehouse. The only good thing about it now is the food court selection is slightly better than in the past and all the food places are all in the same vicinity not scattered like it used to be. But in the end, the stores now don't offer the same quality or value of products you would get in the past when there were much better stores to choose from.

The Quaker Bridge Mall is a monument to late-stage capitalism wrapped in beige tiles and…read moreexistential dread. It is neither quaking, nor bridged, nor particularly Quaker, though I did feel a strange spiritual calm while waiting in line at Auntie Anne's, watching dough be twisted into symbols of carbohydrate comfort. Inside, time folds in on itself like a pair of clearance khakis. There are stores selling perfume, gadgets, jeans tight enough to restrict original thought. There's a Cheesecake Factory, which exists on the same moral plane as purgatory: vast, overlit, and full of folks trying to remember what it was they came in for. The mall is clean. The ceilings are high. The escalators move up and down like Sisyphus with a corporate sponsor. No one seems to know why they're there, but they are, floating from JC Penney to Old Navy in a retail daze. The air smells faintly of artificial scents and unspoken longing. There's something poetic about a mall in the 21st century. A living fossil. A place where you can still see teenagers in small herds, clutching bubble tea and dreams. Where old men power-walk past Forever 21, defiant in orthopedic sneakers. Where the Apple Store shines like a sterile shrine to tech-assisted distraction. Three stars. Not because it's bad; it's not. It is precisely what it claims to be: a mall. A decent one. One with enough stores to feel like you might find something, even if you don't know what you're looking for. It would get four stars if it had a decent bookstore. It would get five if it could answer why I felt slightly lonelier when I left than when I arrived.

The interior design is pressing throughout the entire store; the windows walls, it's an artist gallery. I spoke with one of the ladies and she said Christmas is beautifully designed and a must see. ‍ the clothes are beautifully designed- my sweetheart folkways gasping as some do the dresses and shirts. Shell look alluring in this clothing. Service: greeted and the ladies were al so kind, and in the changing room they write your name in on the door. It's a small insignificant detail -- but it's a detail that lost in the night sky -one star in an ocean of star but it made me smile cause it shows forethought and concern for each customer.

I'd never been to this location, but we had to trek down Rt. 1 to get here because my hubby ordered a beautiful shower curtain, didn't want to pay for shipping (gotta stuff at least $150 in that cart), and that was the only location it could get sent to... ummm, $90 for a shower curtain anyone? Well... I should have stayed home because I saw THE MOST BEAUTIFUL sweater cardigan.. and it spoke to me.. After seeing the $138 price tag, I placed it back, by my heart was broken as I walked out of the store. My husband said.. you work really hard and sometimes you have to treat yourself.. and that I did! Went back in and got that bad boy--with no regret. Needless to say, that is not going to be a regular occurrence 'round these parts.. Back to the also very expensive sales/clearance section I go.
