It's a nice little restaurant... But I wasn't particularly imp impressed with the stake tips that I had. The waitress was great, and it's a family owned business. you could tell. It's a little bit of a drive for me, I wanted to try the steak tips, and have some steak... But I was a little disappointed in that it came smothered in gravy, and wasn't what I was hoping for. However, I may go back and try something else, but I wouldn't go out of my way if I'm looking for steak. The side salad was very small for $5.99. It was just some lettuce a piece of a tomato, and a slice of cucumber. The strawberry cheesecake was really small for $5.99 as well. read more

Coming from Tryon we only have a few places to get a good steak that are mainly chain restaurants so I was happy to find Carters! Tiffany was our waitress and she was super sweet! The staff were all very kind and helpful. The fried pickles as advertised were really good. They had a light and crispy coating that wasn't oily at all. Salads were super fresh and nice. The ribeye steak was absolutely amazing! Super tasty and juicy. I will most definitely be coming back here and I can't wait to try the other menu items!! read more

We've been here several times since my initial four star review and tonight was extremely disappointing. I ordered the Chicken A La Carter which is supposed to have two chicken breasts. What I got were two tiny pieces of chicken that were about the size of my thumb. Two nuggets from McDonalds would have been bigger than one of these chicken breast's. Our friend ordered a similar dish and also got teensy weeny chunks of chicken. For the price being charged, this was an injustice and I sent it back and got the beef tips instead. It was still a much smaller portion than in the past, but it was a touch better. The manager came by and we explained our complaint. They blamed it on the distributor and rising costs. WRONG answer! We've enjoyed Carter's in the past, but this significant reduction in portion size with an increased price will make me rethink my future patronage. read more

Sorry, however for a Steak House restaurant $$$, it has No atmosphere at all. We went once for our Anniversary and we were disappointed. There is another Fine dining restaurant almost across the street (I won't mention the name) but it has amazing atmosphere especially the patio when the fireplace is on and Food is 1st class. I have lived 2 minutes away from this place and made the mistake of never stopping by, until now. The dining room is spacious and lively. Even with a packed parking lot, they still managed to sit us within minutes and we were served quickly. The food is quite good. I had their signature Carters chicken, which was very juicy. The potato skins were amazing as well. A previous comment said that their house salads were boring, but they must have changed it because it had tomatoes, cheese, cucumber, and carrots. The prices are average for a good restaurant. Summary: Great food and great service. Definitely coming back read more

Looking through some of the older reviews I felt needed to mention that this is now a SMOKE-FREE establishment. I'm not sure when this happened because I have eaten here 6 times since September or October of 2017 and it was already smoke-free back then. I don't eat where they still allow smoking so I know this is important. Back again and I had to get that delicious Chicken Parm AGAIN. Yum! Service was spot-on, as usual. read more

Broccoli was over cooked and not green anymore. T cheese sauce so thick to try to cover mistake. The calabash chicken breading was too heavy and thick for chicken. Ranch not homemade. We have lived near this establishment for 6 years but never stopped in, frankly, because it has 0 curb appeal. Last night we decided we wanted something different and hoping it might be a diamond in the rough, we stopped in. When you first walk in, the 1970's, cafeteria style booths should have tipped us off. The menu seemed pretty expansive and it looked like they had a full bar but when we asked for a bottle of wine, we were told they only sold it by the glass. We asked the types of Chardonnay they had and the waitress stated "we just have Chardonnay". When we got the wine it tasted like vinegar or cheap cooking wine. It reeked like molded bread. Our steaks were decent, shrimp was good but 3/4 into us finishing our meal a cockroach ran across the table, past my plate and almost into my lap. I had to grab it with my napkin and smoosh it into my A1 steak sauce. Needless to say, we will NEVER EVER go back! We did our best not to puke in our way out the door. read more

Well where do I Begin. We did get seated quickly. The waiter seemed to fall apart when asked about checking an ingredient for a food allergy. When I specifically asked the waiter if they're batter had corn starch corn flour or cornmeal in them, his reply was that all their fried food had flour in the batter. This concerned me because it seemed like he did not want to go to the kitchen to ask. And if he did was he really listening to me concerning my allergy that could potentially send me to the hospital.I also noticed him reaching across and in front of our party , when he could of as just as easily and politely reached over our shoulders to deliver our drinks. The salmon was bland no flavor. The broccoli was tasteless and the coleslaw had kale in it . If your going to cook please offer some flavors and passion in your meals. It seems that the cooks are just going through the motions here. Will absolutely not be returning here again. read more

We were invited to Carters and were totally surprised.We did not expect the food they have by the exterior of the building. My husband had been craving prime rib and he left there raving. The oyster rockefeller were good and I don't eat them but did. I had salmon, 2 had steaks and all was good. The only little thing was the salmon and one steak was not seasoned very much at all. We've lived in the area for 4 years and passed by this place several times. We finally went tonight after a friend recommended it. I'll be honest, it's not an impressive building on the outside. The parking lot was packed so we expected a wait. As expected we were told the wait was 30 minutes which isn't bad. We decided to take a seat at the bar and order a few drinks. About 25 minutes later we were seated. We ordered the loaded potato skins as appetizers which were delicious. The PBRs cold. My wife and I both ordered the 12 oz ribeye steaks with baked potatoes. I gotta say the steaks were outstanding and completely exceeded our expectations. The steaks were cooked perfectly---mine medium and my wife's medium well---hot, juicy, and full of flavor. The baked potatoes were loaded with cheese, sour cream, and cheese and were steamy hot and great as well. Our waitress, Melanie, gave excellent friendly service and was very attentive. We hate we waited 4 years to go to Carter's. We will definitely return in the near future. Kudos to the staff that prepared and cooked those steaks. I wrote my first review of Carter's in 2015. My husband and I have been back at least 6 times since then. I will say that we only ever order the Filet Mignon with baked potato and raw oyster appetizer. Both are delicious. Changes since 2015 are they are now non-smoking (Yay!) and the price of the steak has gone up a few dollars. However, we have never been disappointed with the quality of the filets and they're cooked exactly as we like them. We will continue to return whenever we have a desire for good red meat. read more

Its a bit pricey and not much to choose from on the menu. Just a hole in the wall nothing fancy but the people have been nice. The portions are Med to large. The food was pretty good and the service was good. My big complaint is the fact that there apparently aren't smoking and non-smoking sections. We were seated near the bar and many people at the bar were smoking like freight trains! It was hard to taste my food because everything tasted like second hand cigarette smoke. I had to shower again when I got home because I smelled like cigarette smoke as did my clothes. Separation glass is needed to create smoking/non-smoking areas. An exhaust fan near the bar wouldn't hurt either. read more

They are known for their Filet Mignon and it didn't disappoint! We are going to try the Prime Rib soon but every time we get there we want the Filet! Service has always been good to great, just depends on your server. Some are more experienced than others which is the same wherever you go. They have a full bar but I wouldn't recommend their margarita on the rocks, was probably the worst one I've ever had but that's okay, their steak makes up for it. read more
