Blue bay. I like this place a lot and I do come here a lot. This place feels actually really homely and I have some great memories here. This restaurant is the perfect place if you want to feel nice or just a little laid back. The service is stellar and the employees are always ready with a smile. We are always seated quickly and immediately served drinks and hush puppies. Now if I was reviewing just the hush puppies then this place would be five stars. This chicken tenders are great and the Dr Pepper is actually great. Now with all the good said, there are few con. The fries never really catch my attention and always seem to be left out of the spotlight. And that's about it. What can I say this place earns its five stars in full. read more

A favorite childhood memory growing up in Madison, Wisconsin was Friday nights at a supper club that featured fried perch. Blue Bay perfectly replicates the perch of my childhood! I purchased two meals. When I get home one of the meals has no meat on the bun(fish sandwich). I called and spoke to Laura she asked what could she do to make it right. I told her I want my money back for this part of the meal and a credit for the fish sandwich. Because of the inconvenience, she okayed it. When I got there today, Laura wouldn't speak to me she had some young person come tell me the refund was it no comp. So Laura lied...I do not understand why you people would lie about something so simple to a patron of this establishment. I never had an issue before. After the lack of professionalism and not understanding how it was inconvenient to a patron and Laura deciding to take the low road over a fish sandwich...we won't be back. I do hope the owners read this and think about your customer service. read more

Food and service are both good. Restaurant is clean. My only complaint would be the portion sizes. You can drive 25 more minutes to their sister restaurant "Blue Ocean" in Clinton and get twice the food for the same amount! read more

I think the portion size compared to the price is out of balance. For a choice of 3 items, I got one small piece of fish, 5 shrimp, one deviled crab, 1/3 cup of slaw and a sweet potato. I think they can do better on portion. The taste was good but a little dry and the shrimp especially. One plate was the everyday special. It had enough food but the chickens tenders were more like nuggets. I get much more at The Flounder for less money. read more

Do not waste your time coming here. Just picked up a large order of fried oysters, no slaw, extra hush puppies and a side order of crab legs. In total it was $30. I called to check the amount of oysters I should have received and was told it is about 14. These oysters are a tad bigger than a quarter. The crab legs are tiny and the hush puppies have no flavor. I didn't necessarily have high expectations for Blue Bay. However, I was pleasantly surprised by the fantail fried shrimp. I ordered the fried fantail shrimp and fried flounder large combo. The large combo came with two pieces of filet flounder, eight fantail friend shrimp and a healthy serving of fries. The flounder was a little bland, but the shrimp was flavorful and hearty. The fries were also seasoned. The large was a bit too much for me. I had one and a half flounder filets left and a ton of fries that I took home with me. read more

Review 1: I went here for a friend's birthday dinner and while the service wasn't speedy, Brittney was a great server and took care of us. For my first visit I tried their hot wings and fries, since I wasn't in a seafood mood. For under $10 you can get ten huge and meaty buffalo wings. They are more on the mild side, though, but have great flavor. Highly recommend them. I did like their french fries, too, though they had a texture as if they were frozen. Are they better than the fries I had at Red Lobster? Abso-freakin-lutely. Blue Bay is a restaurant that has been around for many years. We've eaten here with family a couple of times previously in the past ten years. Atmosphere - It's obvious that the restaurant has been around for a while. The decor is clean, but very outdated. It needs a facelift. (1.5/5). Prices/Value - The prices are cheaper than most seafood restaurants. Based on the prices and quality of the food, it's really not a bad deal (2.5/5). Service - Our server, Makala, was very good. We never had to ask for drink refills and she served everything quickly, with a smile. (4/5) I tried to taste as much food as I could tonight. We had a group of 11 at the restaurant, so I had plenty to sample. In general, a majority of the food I sampled was fried. In general, the food tasted like the oil was old and needed to be changed. It wasn't bad, but it definitely had an old taste to it. Also, most of the items seemed like they were very heavy with oil. I'm not sure if this is because the oil needed to be changed or if the food should have been cooked hotter and faster. In general, here are my ratings for the various fried foods we had: Scallops - These were my favorite. Maybe because they're more dense, they hold less oil. (3.5/5) Fantail Shrimp - Generally, these were pretty good. I could have eaten more (3/5) Whole catfish - I wasn't a fan, but it was edible. (2/5) Oysters - Pretty tasty, but small (2.5/5) French Fries - Needed help. Obviously fried with the seafood (1.5/5) Hush Puppies (served as an appetizer) - Good taste, but really hurt by the old oil (1.5/5) Additionally, I had the following: Hot Wings - Very average. Nothing memorable. (2/5) Cole Slaw - I couldn't stand it. It tasted old and warm (1/5) Overall, the restaurant isn't too bad, but there were too many things that stuck out in my mind that I didn't like for me to give it more than 2 stars. This was a disaster. We has tried the establishment about sixteen months ago and it was a disaster then also. We had run into a gentleman who represented himself as the owner and had asked us to come back and try it. Said we wouldn't be disappointed. The service was terrible. The waitress forgot to bring me my dinner salad and offered to bring it after she served my meal. I had broiled Tuna. It was obviously frozen and so over cooked I drank three glasses of water trying to choke it down. It tasted incredibly fishy and I am still trying to get the taste out of my mouth forty minutes later. I grew up on the coast of South Carolina and lived for a while in Florida. I'm spoiled when it comes to good seafood. The food at Blue Bay was okay, but not great. Typical fried platters. My fried oysters were good. The scallops were overcooked and required a knife to cut them. Don't waste your money on the oyster stew. It was a bowl of watered down milk with some steamed oysters. Went here with my family, we were seated right away,and our drinks and food were brought out in a timely manner. I had the flounder, it tasted great minus all the bones that were in it. I don't normally eat fish, so I'm not sure if it's normal for the bones to be left in it. The shrimp was cooked just right, so that even my kids enjoyed it(they don't normally like seafood). The Servers were very friendly and the food was served promptly. I worked in a local Calabash style fish camp as a teenager and these offerings were just horrible. I left home hankering for seafood but not willing to endure the line at the Red Lobster around the corner.
