These people do not know how to talk to babies or toddlers. I could not believe the number of kids that were wailing like teeth were being pulled. I gave them TWO attempts to fix my child's hair. After the initial cut, it was crooked in the front and back. The bangs were severely jagged when I had specifically asked for straight bangs but not too blunt. So I asked the lady to even then out and she makes them even more crooked still. The third attempt, they even worse and now short. I think that Cartoon Cuts fills a void in the local community. There are not many places that I would feel comfortable taking my son to get his hair cut. Most women's salons aren't geared towards kids (or even tolerant of them), and barber shops can be hit or miss. It was for those reasons I have been happy to find a Cartoon Cuts so close to me. I know that they will be expecting a toddler and the squirmy behavior that is consistent with their age. I have had both positive and negative experiences here. Munaza has always been a joy to work with. She is patient and kind. She has little toys that make a haircut interesting and fun. She has a calm manner and takes the time to explain to even the youngest children what is going on. The end result is a happy, not-crying child with an exceptional haircut. Just what anyone would want! Not all of the people here are that way though. The one time I used someone besides Munaza led to tears, trauma, and an awful haircut. She was rough, brusque, and lacked personal skills. I was genuinely shocked by the experience. When I reached out to management the next day, I was pleased at their responsiveness and receptiveness. We have since had a redo which was able to make the best of the bad haircut, and I will likely be returning in the future to have his hair cut by Munaza. read more

I have been taking my Children to Munaza at Cartoon Cuts since my daughter who is now 17 was 2!! My daughter is Non-Verbal and a lot of times can get very Manic and upset when she is in a high stress situation. I am so overjoyed every time I see my daughter sitting calmly in the chair as Munaza Takes her time and cuts her hair. My daughter Doesn't always sit real still in the chair but that has never stopped Munaza from being able to give her a perfect cut! For this reason We have followed Munaza from Tysons to Fair Oaks over the years because She is so Wonderful. I have to add I have three other children and ALL of them Love Munaza and won't let me take them anywhere else( Not that I would) If there was an award for Top Stylist across all of the Cartoon Cuts franchises she would hands down definitely be the winner. read more

Martha did an amazing job on my 14 month old's hair! He was very wiggly, but she was fast and efficient. I've received so many compliments on how good his hair looks. This was his first haircut so I wasn't sure what to expect. The woman working the front desk was very friendly and he even got a little keepsake certificate for his first haircut with a little baggie where Martha saved some of his hair for his baby book. HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE!! I called three times and visited this location once before actually having my son's hair cut here. I specifically asked if they had experience cutting African American hair and was told repeatedly that all of their stylists were well trained and licensed to cut any hair texture. As it turns out, that was a lie. I took my son to have his first hair cut over the weekend. I should have known they didn't know what they were doing when the stylist (Myrna) tried to comb through my son's hair with a fine tooth comb. Then she proceeded to treat us like petting zoo animals by playing with my son's hair and calling to other stylists in the salon saying things like "Oh my goodness! His hair is actually soft! I thought it would be rough! Come over here! Come touch his hair!" I really should have put an end to the haircut at that very moment but did not because my son's father thought I was overreacting. She then starts to randomly cut my son's hair with a scissor. There was no measuring... no real logic, she was just grabbing chunks of his hair and cutting patches of hair off. When she realized her method of cutting was resulting in an uneven trim, she took the clippers and proceeded to buzz my son's hair off. Which was infuriating because I had specifically asked her FOR A TRIM! ShE SHAVED OFF ALL HIS HAIR OFF!!!!!!!! ALL OF IT!!! I'M LIVID! To make matters worse, the sound of the clippers scared my son and he started crying. She would have kept on going had I not intervened and asked her to stop so I could console my son and sit him in my lap so he would feel more safe. At the end of the haircut, there was no "First Haircut" certificate presented to us. She balled up a bit of his hair and gave it to me as a keep sake. I had to ask her for a tiny zip lock bag to put the hair in. It's part of the "first haircut" package we paid for so why do I have to ask her for a bag to put it in? At this point, I'm ready to take my son and leave. We were both crying at this point and inconsolable. I will never, ever visit another Cartoon Cuts with any child of mine. It was a truly horrific and traumatizing experience for us both. I DO NOT recommend this salon to any mother with a textured-hair child. read more

I showed her a picture and she got right to work. I honestly was so surprised at how well my son was but I believe it was because of the details at Cartoon Cuts that make the child feel welcomed. I just wanted to say that we are still seeing Martha for my son's haircuts. She did his first haircut when he was a year old. He is now 6 years old and loves to see Martha. He runs and gives her hugs and kisses when he sees her and is always excited when he hears we are going to see her. He is on the Autism Spectrum and has ADHD. My kids love having their hair cuts here, and the stylists generally do a good job, however I'm concerned about the lack of sanitization of hair brushes they use here. A couple of months ago, my kids all ended up with head lice. This was really strange to me, because my kids aren't in school, so I was quite perplexed as to how they could have possibly ended up with it. Eventually it hit me that they recently had their hair cut at Cartoon Cuts. We went back again today and I paid more attention to the stylist's use of equipment. For the most part, she used a comb and clippers. At the end, she pulled a hair brush from a drawer and used that on my child. She then tossed it back into the drawer, along with the apron that my child had been wearing. Now, I'm not saying that my kids definitely got their head lice from this place, but I think going forward, I'm going to take my kids to non-kid oriented salons. I think there's just too much risk of getting head lice in a place that caters to kids and doesn't appear to sanitize their brushes between clients. read more

I attempted to give my 19 month old a "trim." Needless to say, I turned it into a hack job. I called Cartoon Cuts immediately after I realized there was no way I could fix my mess, and they said "come on in, there is no wait." By the time we got there there were 3 people ahead of us, but it moved quickly. Linda was our stylist, and as sweet as can be she said "it's not that bad, mom!" She immediately began working her magic. I don't think it took her more than 10-15 minutes from beginning to end and she did a fantastic job. So far so good. Our youngest one, age 2, used to fight/cry when he had to get his hair cut. Here, he is still nervous at first, but will sit still because of the little TVs playing Paw Patrol, Mickey Mouse, Moana, etc. cartoons, hence the cartoon cuts. I wouldn't recommend it for older kids who can sit still on their own. This was my son's first visit to a hair salon. Previously, he'd always put up a fight whenever my husband and I attempt to cut his hair. But today was different. With a lot of coaxing, and seeing that other kids slightly older than him were all getting their hair cut as well, he finally got into the chair for his first ever professional hair cut. Waiting now over 30 minutes for Munaza. I arrived checked in and the computer showed 0 wait time. 20 minutes later a mom arrived who has an appointment right when she finishes with the set of siblings she was working on at my arrival only to tell me well since she has an appointment you have to wait another 20 minutes or so. Keep in my mind had the mom she was helping when I arrived been scheduled correctly for 2 kids the system would not show me a 0 wait time. Time to find another kid friendly hair stylist instead of going out of my way 30 minutes from home. I felt really bad taking my kid here because it was the first time his hair was cut by someone other than my buddy who moved away. But it got so bad, even he was complaining about his hair in his eyes. So we took off to Cartoon Cuts at the Fair Oaks Mall. Originally, I was going to do the daddy and me special, but decided against taking up the time for one of the kids waiting in line. (See my review on Zoe Salon & Spa for my haircut.) The customer service was great, but the haircut was nothing to write home about. However, for the price it was good and Dora the Explorer kept him calm. Not sure how long we will keep taking the boy here, but for now, it works. read more

Time for an update. I've come to Cartoon Cuts a handful of times now. Still the same inefficient, unprofessional customer service at the front desk. Still the same unnecessary asking for tips by the front desk staff. I will tip, you don't have to request I leave a tip. How rude. The first time my daughter got her haircut here, they didn't do the certification and cute snip of the hair in a baggy like they did for my son at the Springfield location. Not a big deal, but for a $24 haircut for a 3 yr old, give me something. So I came in on Sunday (no appointments on Sundays) for a SHAPE UP for my son, since I clean up his hair with my own pair of clippers btwn haircuts. I specifically requested a shape up, which is $12.99: no hairwash, no style. So whoever it was, took him back and gave him a dry cut, simple shape up and everything was fine. BACK TO THE FRONT DESK SERVICE: I go to check out and say that I got a shape up and btwn my daughter saying she has to use the restroom and my son trying to run off, I just swipe my card without looking. When I leave I notice I'm charged $20 for the full service wash, cut, and style. That's BS. I feel like they take advantage of busy, distracted parents to make that extra buck. Another $24 (with tip, OF COURSE) haircut at this place. What a waste, never coming back. read more

Cutting a child's hair is not an easy task, so I give credit to anyone who can do it without poking their scissors in a child's eye. I literally have to take my son to get his hair cut once a month. I've been taking him for two years and have tried quite a few of their employees. My favorite is RITA! She is awesome. She just seems to cut my son's hair exactly how I like it (long on top). The others have done a good job too, I just have a preference. I waited for Rita today. I would not recommend going on the weekend when it's a madhouse. They email coupons if you sign up. They have a variety of movies for the kids to watch. They have lollipops. You can have them sit on your lap if they need to. The staff is always very friendly. read more

We decided to try Cartoon Cuts in Fair Oaks for my 3 year old son's first haircut. The woman who cut his hair was incompetent, at best, with children. I tried to explain what I wanted done and she ignored me. My son was very excited about getting a big boy haircut at a salon. He was smiling and talking until the person cutting his hair started using the clipper without warning him. It was so abrupt I even jumped. He was completely freaked out. He wanted to leave. I calmed him down and asked that we finish with scissors, which was met with annoyance. She left without asking if we were happy with the cut, her coworkers had to call her back. What we ended up with was decent in the back, choppy on the sides, and a disaster in the front. This can't be blamed on the lack of clippers as it was completed before that debacle. This was not the "professional" haircut we paid for. We made the choice to take our son to Cartoon Cuts because of the "kid friendly" and "first haircut friendly" atmosphere and we were sorely disappointed. read more

Took my ten month infant to cut her hair yesterday. She cried the whole time and the person who was cutting her hair had no idea how to work with an infant I suppose. While I expected my infant to be anxious and cry, I did not expect the stylist would just go about trying to cut the hair without giving me a break to try and pacify my child. Even when she wailed real loud, she was trying to cut her hair. And she used some spray on her hair and wasn't patient enough to ensure that it doesn't get into her eyes. I had to tell her to stop and walk away to get my infant to stop crying. Finally, I just gave up because I felt this person didn't know how to work with kids. And the haircut was uneven on all sides. I agree with another review that this place is hit or miss, but I've had enough misses that I'm done. My son has gotten 2 great haircuts from Irene and 3 awful haircuts from 3 other people. I ask for Irene every time but we usually walk in on a whim instead of scheduling appointments so she isn't always there. I guess I just thought a place that is specifically for squirmy toddlers would know how to cut hair on squirmy heads. This last time a nice Asian lady came over to blow bubbles at my son to help him calm down, but Princess (who I think is the manager?) still couldn't manage to cut in a straight line. I would've been happy with like a mostly straight line that I could ruffle to make look decent but this is the choppiest crap I've ever seen (picture uploaded). I still like the place, but I wasn't as pleased with the second haircut. Firstly, they really need to turn off the TVs that aren't being used. There weren't that many people there at the time, so all you heard was this cacophony of children's movies playing. Because of that, my son couldn't hear the video playing at our station and was not distracted from the haircut. There weren't any toys offered to him this time, either. So he was just sitting there, fully aware of a stranger touching his hair. Consequently, he did not sit still and pulled away when she used the shears. The back of his hair ended up uneven, with a small chunk of hair accidentally shaven away behind his ear. She seemed in a real hurry to get the haircut done, and didn't give me a chance to calm him down. Next time I go, I'm going to request the previous stylist, Irene. Overall, I'm still happy with the place. I mean, $16.99 for a kid's cut -- you just can't beat that. And the cut my toddler got was mostly good. She just shaved too much off his neck and behind his ears, and I wish she hadn't been in such a rush. read more

I've been bringing my son to get his haircut here for years. Most days it's very loud and busy... but that's to be expected so that never bothers me. We always see Martha. We love her! Martha is always smiling and so sweet... and and always cuts his hair perfectly! The longest we've ever had to wait was close to an hour.
