I was so excited to try this Carvel location with my child and our friends. My kid wanted the Crazy Cotten Candy ice cream, which was pre-served in their freezer. It was frozen solid and completely inedible, so we asked if there was anything they could do, and they refused to make it right, since we had opened it already. It's over 80 degrees today, and they really disappointed my child. The positive was the smell of Cinnabon in the space and the air conditioning. Customer service needs some work. read more

They are so so nice! The ladies were amazing and patient with my order. I was a little upset that they didn't have an album with photos, I was hesitant to place the order. This is only the 2nd time I've been to a Carvel store, and I'm really shocked that is the case. The ice cream quality is superb compared to many other chains. The employees were nice and ready to serve customers with masks and active social distancing. The protected counter area was appreciated. Being lactose intolerant holds me back from enjoying dairy treats most times, but there are exceptions im willing to suffer for. This scoop of Vanilla bourbon toffee was definitely on the list. I've been to this Carvel over a dozen times and I'm so glad to have it in our neighborhood. Like other reviewers have noticed, there aren't many ice cream parlors in the neighborhood, so I'll take what I can get and this Carvel delivers. My go-to here is the soft serve with rainbow sprinkles. It's a simple, tasty treat. You can't go wrong with soft serve. But you should also know that on Wednesdays, you can get 2-for-1 sundaes! I also recently tried the Oreo and Cold Brew shake. This thing was so good. It's cold brew flavored ice cream with crushed up Oreos, chocolate syrup, and whipped cream. A misogynistic first impression but a first impression nonetheless.....what is it about ice cream parlors that employ nothing but teenage girls and have them wear the tightest white t-shirts to work? Are they trying to drive the whole "cream" thing home? Just wondering. But I digress. This is a nice little ice cream parlor serving all the staples I remember from a happy childhood--super-creamy soft-serve ice cream, trademark ice cream sandwiches, the coolest imaginable ice cream cakes. The focus is on CARVEL, dammit. No espresso bar. No gelato. No donuts. Just sweet Carvel ice cream, that goes down smooth then expands inside to leave you feeling content, like a 9-year-old after a long hard day of Wiffle Ball at Forest Park. The place is nice and bright, cheerily painted, and kept meticulously clean. I'd throw in the 5th star if it were an older location with original 60s-esque fixtures on the building (love those giant cones on some of the other Carvels), but you can't fault them for that. Bottom line....skip Dunkin Donuts, skip the fake Mister Softee truck on the Avenue. Just stop here for the genuine (non-gourmet) ice cream experience you remember from when you were a kid. This is the only real ice cream shop in Ridgewood/Glendale, and although the ice cream is great (reason behind the 2-star rating), the service is absolutely horrendous. First of, each and every time I come in, they have a whole different team. I have not once seen the same face here yet. The staff that is present does not care about you or their job. Going for ice cream is treating yourself. This experience should include a smile from the server, courteous service, and appreciation for your business. The owner seems to be somewhat decent. But unfortunately she lacks the ability to train her staff in customer service skills. They are not doing us a favor by serving us ice cream for $10 per cup. We are doing them a favor by coming in and spending our money on a non-essential item. You do not need ice cream. You need eggs and milk from the grocery. But you do not need ice cream. It's a luxury. And that's why people who are serving ice cream in Carvel need to be friendly and hospitable. This particular location has shady pricing and very Unpredictable customer service. When he stopped at Carvel I was definitely disappointed, but I just went with it. But, I've just never been to one of these before and I flash-judged it.. this place was not bad! They had reg. ice cream and chocolate/vanilla froyo. My bf and I both bought Girl Scout Cookie flavored blizzard things, and they ended up being buy 1 get 1 for $3.99 on Mondays. Woohoo! Service can be better. Seems like every time I come here there's a new girl. But then again I'm here every few months. I usually come to get co-workers ice scream cake, but when I come for something else no one knows how to make it or what goes in it. Prime example today I got the Nutella Shaker, obviously Nutella goes in it. The girl that was taking care me looked at me as if I had 3 heads and then started asking the other employees how to make it, thought I said that I wanted the Oreo Shaker and then in the end another girl charged me. My poor 75 yr old grandma went in there today 5/2/17 and needed assistance from Jennifer and was treated horribly. Jennifer just pointed at cakes and when asked if there is any other with better price was then ignored. The cake was heavy to pick up from the freezer and she did not assist an old lady with the cakes, there are very rude workers there and I would advise any one and friends and family not to ever shop there they have no respect for the elderly! read more

Horrible experience!!! Went in for free icecream cone day with my son. He asked if he could please have it in a cup because he has a gluten/wheat allergy. They said no. I asked why not? He can't eat the cone he has a food allergy. So at first the guy said because thats the way it is and shrugged his shoulders but then the guy offered to put it in a tiny cup. The girl next to him then stepped in and asked what he was doing and he explained that my son had an allergy. She said so! It says free cone day not free cup day very rudely. My son was embarrassed. So the guy said its ok I'll pay for it. I said no its ok I will pay for the cup. He said no its ok its only 20 cents. She rolled her eyes and took a deep breath. REALLY FOR 20 CENTS???
