This is supposed to be 1pc whiting meal, but what I received was fish scraps.
    La H.

I gave this restaurant 2 stars because, while it could have been better, I understand we ordered close to closing time, which might explain the issues. The person who took our order was friendly and helpful, but the food we received was disappointing. I had ordered a 2-piece whiting meal with fried okra and mac n' cheese but was told they only had a 1-piece whiting with French fries available. I was fine with that and added two cornbread muffins to go with it. However, when I got home and opened my order, I was greeted with a bunch of small, unattractive pieces of fish that looked like chicken livers or gizzards--nothing like the whole piece of whiting I was expecting. The fish smelled old and fishy, and most of it had inedible black skin that I had to remove to even make it halfway decent. Only one piece tasted like fresh fish, which made me think this restaurant could have been much better under different circumstances. Nowhere on the menu did it mention anything about "fish nuggets" or "fish pieces"--it was misleading, and I would have preferred to be told they were out of whiting rather than receive what felt like scraps from the bottom of the bag. The mentality seemed to be, "It's late, so whatever--we'll just give her this." On the plus side, the French fries and cornbread muffins were good, so there's some potential here. I'd be willing to give this place another try, but next time I'll come earlier in the day when, hopefully, the kitchen is stocked, and the staff has more energy to care about the quality of the food."

How can a restaurant be out of things on the menu at the beginning of the day? I understand shipments may be delayed but the grocery store is open. The cabbage and potatoe salad was decent. The wings needed seasonings.

I drove from Lithia Springs GA to try this place as I was craving soul food. Let me tell you, they did not disappoint. I got 2 dinners and eating the collards and Mac. I needed no added seasonings at all. Everything perfectly season and chops fried to perfection; tender and moist with a light crispy batter. I definitely recommend just don't go when I'm going. Treasure find.

I decided to randomly chose a soul food restaurant here on Yelp. I chose this one because of the pictures provided my patrons. The food looked yummy . I wanted collards and fish , but normally I don't eat restaurant collards because I expect them to be heavy with salt and cooked in pork . I ordered the blackened tilapia, Mac n cheese collards and corn bread. The fish was delicious, it was seasoned to perfection. The collards weren't cooked in any type of meat ( I loved this fact) and they weren't overly seasoned . The greens had a good flavor but I couldn't tell if they were canned or fresh cooked in liquid smoke. It tasted like a cross between the two bit it really wasn't bad. Unfortunately I could only taste a small corner ( one noodle) of the Mac n cheese because I'm lactose intolerant and I thought I had a supplement to prevent having a belly ache. The little I tasted seemed ok . Now lets talk about portion size . I don't eat a lot in one setting , but when I go out to get homestyle food , I want enough for leftovers and that was totally impossible. I received a very small portion . The cornbread was the size of the munchkin donuts from Dunkin. The bread was yummy, but give me a whole regular size muffin! I could have eaten 5 of those to make one muffin. In case your wondering , you order at the door . The door is blocked using a table for social distancing . Once the food is ready , she flagged me from my car and she sat the order in the table at the door. The place looked clean for where I could see and the recent grade was an A. I gave it 4 stars for the small portions. Would I go back? I would ; the fish and cornbread was my favorite . They were out of desserts. I wanted to try the peach cobbler. I'll have to go back and try the dessert. This was refreshing. It's definitely beat eating fast food.

Came for sides, fried cabbage is really good. Best thing I had all night. Would definitely get that again, didn't love the Mac and cheese tasted like Stauffers frozen not bad just didn't taste like homemade. The collards are too chopped up for my liking but they were also good. String beans were decent, the okra was really good. Overall I would come back for the okra and the cabbage.

If you've lived here for a while like I have (over a decade), you know that unique dining experiences are few and far between. So imagine my surprise when I realized... it's a food truck. Now, full credit to the owner--winning Best of Cobb 2024 is no small feat. But here's the thing: when people aren't familiar with authentic Nashville hot chicken, they tend to accept what's available. And what's available here? It's good--definitely different for the area--but it's not great. Not by Nashville standards. The food took a while to come out, which raised eyebrows since there was no line and no orders ahead of us. I'd be curious to see how long the wait is during a rush. As for the heat? I asked for the hottest thing on the menu. Took a bite, waited for the burn... nothing. I think the owner was watching because about a minute later, he ran over asking, "How is it? Is it hot? Is it good?" I smiled and nodded. But truthfully? Nah. Not hot. Maybe for some it would be, but not for me. The owner was super proud--and rightfully so. This is his craft, and again, it wasn't bad. But between the price, portion size, and lack of that signature Nashville kick, I'd say it's a "try once" experience. I'd recommend it for the curiosity, but I personally wouldn't return. There are better Nashville hot chicken options out there--both in heat and value.

Nestled in a strip mall right outside of downtown Powder Springs sits Havana Haven. For those of us…read morewho used to go to Copa Cabana prior to closing this was a much welcome lounge. We decided to stop by for lunch and we were the only customers there. The restaurant seems to have taken on some Caribbean flair, with a photo area adorned with fake flowers, a bar that was barely stocked, a DJ area without a real dance floor and ViP area that if you have a mobile disability you probably won't be able to get to. The manager on duty was Cassandra and she was very nice and the music playing was very tropical. The ambiance was nice, then we were given the menus. The word Havana implies that it would have traditional Cuban foods, not sure if they consulted a Cuban or even competent Caribbean chef. Perhaps the drinks are good but I will the food left much to be desired. My husband ordered the nachos and the chips were store bought and extremely salty, combine with the canned cheese and the unseasoned meat it was not very good at all. In fact my husband took three bites and he couldn't eat anymore. It was beyond salty and inedible. My daughter ordered the empanadas. On the menu pictured it says empanadas, hence leading one to believe that it would be more than one. However, the empanadas meant one and somehow or another, you the customer are left to figure this out when one empanada arrives on a bed of Lettuce. She also ordered the steak tostones cups which were overpowered with the guacamole. My daughter loves guacamole but the ratio guacamole to steak was too much and the two half strips of steak were not enough to balance out the flavor. I had the hibachi, the steak arrived so badly burnt that it curled up and the charred pieces of steak were inedible. The vegetables surrounding the little bowl of burnt rice were ok so I happily ate that. My husband who never complains asked our very sweet waitress if she could get the manager. After he went through the issues with the food, she was extremely open to the issues and explained they are in the process of tweaking some things. I expressed I would happily pay for the veggies that I ate and the empanada that my daughter ate and the tostones as she ate two of the three sharing the second. The manager then took our full plates away. We were a little taken aback to get the bill of 50% off when we hadn't taken three full bites of the inedible food. I wish this business success however, maybe the chef is new as well. We will not be returning to eat, perhaps the drinks are good because the ambiance seems nice and the music was amazing.

Just like my previous review, I'm going to TRY to be brief just in case my review gets filtered…read more (When I create a business entry AND I'm the first to review, Yelp tends to filter my review.) Interior / Exterior They're located in Powder Springs on that street I call 'restaurant row' right before you get to downtown Powder Springs proper. They're in the space formerly occupied by Los Portales Mexican Restaurant, and more recently SAC Burger. The interior space open and clean, but very dark (appropriate for a lounge - lol). The parking lot is big, but it's a bit tight. Customer Service The server / bartender was SOOO friendly. I love that she welcomed me the moment I crossed the threshold and thanked me for coming in. She hit me with a big, beautiful smile during her welcome and she was pleasant and upbeat during our entire interaction. Note to all bar and lounge owners: Beautiful bartenders area easy to find. But beautiful bartenders who are pleasant and engaging (versus the ones who act irritated and snarky with guests) should be cherished. They can make or break your business. Lol. I also loved that she knew the menu and was able to answer all my questions and provide recommendations. I checked my receipt later and it says her name was Michaela. Price Value I thought the prices were fair. Everything is so expensive nowadays, but these guys had some burger combos for $12 and under. Food I decided to play it safe and ordered the chicken sandwich. They didn't have a grilled chicken option, so I went with the fried, non-spicy filet. It comes with fries. I deliberately didn't take a photo because they do that 'new' thing where they put the lettuce and tomato BELOW the protein, which traps the heat, so by the time I got home with my food, my lettuce and tomato looked pretty sad. Note to all kitchens - when you put hot meat on top of any produce, it pretty much cooks the produce. Produce is best just placed off to the side. And if it's a sandwich with hot melted cheese, put the top bun and the produce to the side. I did not want to do them a disservice by posting a photo like that (limp, droopy wilted lettuce and mushy hot tomatoes). The chicken filet on my sandwich was tasty. It was seasoned well, pounded thin and hand-breaded. I tried a few of my fries before I left and they were very greasy, as though they were dropped before the oil reached the correct temperature. The fries are not plain, they're slightly battered, so I wasn't to heart-broken because I don't really dig battered fries anyway. They have a pretty diverse menu. The website doesn't show the full menu. I didn't have my phone with me, so I wasn't able to snap a photo of the menu. Also - they don't have take-away menus. They use eco-friendly, sani-friendly QRC's instead. The server explained that it's a Cuban American fusion vibe. They have sandwiches, burgers (including a Salmon burger and the Impossible burger), but they also have wings, tostones, panins, nachos, tacos, hibachi bowls and pasta. They even have soup! I checked out their website and I will DEFINITELY go back to try the hibachi bowl and a margarita. I like the fact that they have options like garden burgers and sides like steamed broccoli. Other Right now, they're only open Thu - Sun from 11am to midnight. Kitchen closes at 11pm. And they're open until 2am on Fri and Sat. Kitchen closes at 1am. They are a no smoking facility. Yay. And they will have karaoke in upcoming months. Definitely think everyone should check them out.
