My husband and I ate here for the second time today and again everything was awesome! Keith, our server, was very friendly and attentive to what we needed before we even needed it. Karlene, the owner, was so very nice and so friendly! It almost feels like you are walking in a family members home for an amazing meal. That is how welcoming everyone is. My family and I went to this restaurant for lunch thinking it would be a good place to go for a home-cooked meal while visiting for a few days. The restaurant was not very busy at all when we arrived however, it took quite a while to even be seated. The reason for this was that there was literally only one waitress for the entire restaurant. It seemed like hours before the food came out and when it did, it came out one meal at a time. There were no reasons given and no apologies either! The decor was definitely aged. The service was slow... yet with a smile. The food was acceptable but definitely nothing to write home about! We may possibly give them a second chance the next time we visit, but only if there is more help available when we walk in the door. read more

Located on the corner of Austell Road and Clay Road, Dolly's has been a staple in the Austell country restaurant scene for years! From being featured in MacGuyver to sadly being gutted by a fire, Dolly's has seen some things in the years since opening and is known as a local spot that many folks consider part of the family. While I haven't frequented this place for years, I have come to learn that Cobb County locals love them some Dolly's! I usually make a trip to Austell weekly to hit the International Market that is a few miles from here and my carwash spot is pretty close too, so I have passed Dolly's a few dozen times and just never decided to swing in. Well, the first part of fixing a problem is admitting you have one, and I had a problem in judgment that kept me from this little spot far too long. Now, from the road, Dolly's isn't fancy...its all blue/grey made up of cinderblock and wood planking that features a nice country porch across the front. When you walk in, you have the dining room to the right, which also features the hostess/cashier stand and then the counter/kitchen entrance to the left. The open dining room features a few booths lining two walls and then the rest of the space is filled with 4 top tables. The counter area consists of a few barstools and a few booths as well. The place isn't big, so they made sure to maximize the available space for seating. Parking can be of issue when they get busy, as the lot dedicated to Dolly's only features about 15 spots and currently, they are needing to be re-stripped. Food wise, I was impressed. I ended up here because I had a craving for a homemade biscuit with something fried on it paired with some good ole cheese grits...and that is just what I got here! They had a good variety of biscuits, as well as sides/a la carte items. Unlike many other breakfast spots, they didn't worry about pre-building meals for you. Whether it be breakfast of lunch, they gave you the list of what they have and let you build your own perfect plate. To satisfy my hankering for something fried, I decided to go with the steak biscuit. This wasn't just a piece of cheap steak laid out on a biscuit, this was a crispy country fried piece of steak placed on a homemade, flaky and tender biscuit. I added those cheese grits to the side, as I just knew they would both hit the spot...and did they! One thing I loved about the cheese grits was they put shredded cheese all the way through and not just on the top like other places. This made for extra cheesy grits, which I was not complaining about! To wash it all down I got a sweet tea, because...duh! In true southern style, this was some of the best sweet tea I had in a long time! Price wise, Dolly's can't be beat, especially for the quality. So much is homemade and while the portions are standard, you can tell the quality is slightly above other local diners in the area. For my meal, including the steak biscuit and cheese grits, I paid just at $4.00. I promise this isn't a typo! While the food was great, the service left a little to be desired. You could tell that this place has a bunch of regulars, which I think is fantastic, however being a new face, I noticed that the attention my table got was far less than the other tables and this was evident in the extended wait times for refills and condiments at the beginning of my meal. Additionally, I was not super pumped on the lack of Covid related precautions Dolly's is, or really isn't taking. When I arrived there were plenty of tables open and it seemed like they were distancing, but as my meal progressed, every single table came to be sat. Additionally, the staff was wearing masks, but not properly a large portion of the time, especially when visiting tables. All the wait staff could be seen pulling their masks down to expose their mouth and nose when visiting and talking to their tables. Overall, Dolly's was cute, quaint, southern eatery that serves up quality food at phenomenal prices. Dolly's has definitely made my "go-to" list, however with the current state of things and their decisions to limit their precautions, for the foreseeable future, my patronage will be through pick up only. read more

Dolly's Farmhouse is an adorable and comfortable southern restaurant in Austell. In the front of the restaurant are a few rocking chairs and a bench in case you want to enjoy your coffee outside. Upon entering the restaurant you're greeted with a friendly smile from the hostess and waitress. The furnishings are super vintage and I have to say I loved it and thought it gave the place character. I sat at one of the booths right by the window so there was lots of natural light. Score! As soon as I sat down the Amazing Stacey asked for my drink request and seconds later I had a cup of coffee. Stacey was so friendly, informative and made sure our order made it in before breakfast stopped. Now that's 5 star service! So something to know for those coming for breakfast, they stop serving it at 10:30 during the weekday, I'm not sure about the weekend hours. The menu is made up of all your favorite southern breakfast items so it might be tough to make a decision. I went with the 2 egg platter which includes choice of eggs, biscuit and grits. I also ordered a side of home fries and I'm so glad I did, they were extra crunchy and seasoned just right. Eggs were cooked perfectly scrambled. I prefer my grits a little thicker so they were just ok for me. The biscuit was soft and tasty. Everything was very affordable, my total came to $10 with tip. I overall had a wonderful experience and enjoyed my breakfast. I definitely plan on stopping back again to check out the lunch menu. Loving this local gem. This is my first visit and needed a recommendation for ordering. First to bat was catfish and grits. I couldn't jump into that this visit. I chickened out with an egg and fried bologna breakfast. Eggs were perfect, hash browns well cooked, bologna thick and scorched. Reviews insisted I needed to try the blueberry pancake. It does have fresh blueberries and it is fluffy.....but there is a bit coming. The batter needs some flavor. Not a lot. Just throw some vanilla or somethin' in there. Of note: the white gravy. The biscuit was awesome but the steak was a fried steak...if I'd known, I wouldn't have ordered it...doesn't say fried steak on the menu but it wasn't bad but I would have ordered the chicken biscuit instead. I used to love the food here. I'd eat here twice a week before the current owners took over. I can't speak for the breakfast but the lunch food is just subpar. I'm So disappointed because the food here used to be so good. I just went back to eat yesterday after it reopened hoping they'd improved but the hamburger steak was tough, the Cole slaw tasted like a canned store bought version, the creamed corn was awful I can't even explain it. The Mac and cheese was the only thing I had that was good. The server never came back to refill my tea even though I had my cup sitting on the edge and it was obviously empty. She walked by the table several times but never came back to our table I hope they can get some better food but I don't see myself going back anytime soon read more

God! I wanted this to be excellent! Sadly, that wasn't the case. The only plus was our server. No meatloaf. Unchewable Country Fried Steak. Instant mashed potatoes and the worst butter beans ever. Grilled cheese for $5+ with one piece of cheese? On top of that some other table ordered Fried Chicken Livers that filled the room with a regurgatory atmosphere. I looked over and saw the man smell them and for some bizarre reason taste them and then send them back, got the check and they were outta there! The smell, unfortunately lingered. My family and I visited this spot two weeks ago and we were all thoroughly pleased with our food. Between my food allergies and my sweetie's ridiculous decision to NOT eat pork (I'm seriously considering leaving him - just kidding) - and the kids with their insane pickiness (what's this green stuff?) - it can be difficult to find a good breakfast or brunch spot that we'll all enjoy. I especially loved my home fries and sausage and the kids really loved their sausage and pancakes. The place as a little noisy, but that's not their fault - just a note for others. Loved this place. I recently moved to Marietta and I'm devastated there is nothing close by where i can find a coffee in a real cup, nit paper or plastic. Breakfast served by friendly staff, tasty, good value and regular customers. I found myself in this area and ended up here by accident unplanned. It made my day. Breakfast ends at 10.30 am be prepared if you want breakfast. The food was great, tasty, good value compared to what I had last week in Marietta square. The service was friendly and full of regulars. Im still looking for a place close to home but really glad i got s chance to cone here today. When I am in the area it will be a must on my agenda. They serve lunch from 10.30 am until 4 pm and then close. Established in 1983 they have been serving customers for 35 years and i hope they continue to do so. This country has enough blah establishments and chains restaurants its difficult to find one with charm in soulless suburbia. I guess that's what people choose to support. We went to get the breakfast special for 8.99. We ordered and received a check for 47 dollars when 8.99 x 2 is only 17.98? They up charge TEN DOLLARS for country fried steak. It's weird that I keep doing searches and keep coming up with established restaurants that weren't in my previous searches. Anyway, Dolly's showed up in the search today and since my chicken/country fried steak with eggs and gravy go-to closed recently, I thought I'd give it a try. Was going to order online but had some questions so I called and got an answering machine. Took a chance and drove out. It's a quaint little out of the way place that at some point was very excited to have had the MacGyver reboot filmed there. The gentleman that greeted me was pleasant and helped me formulate my order. What I wanted didn't exist on it's own, 'Chicken fried steak and eggs' so I had to order the egg breakfast and add the steak to it. Even though it wasn't all that busy, they were a little understaffed so it took a little longer than you would think given the diner aspect of the place. Not terribly long but longer than expected. Not complaining, just giving details. Got home with the food and the first thing I noticed upon opening the containers was that over-easy eggs that were in the same container as the hash browns had moved from the main area to the side compartment of the Styrofoam container and broken one of the yolks. The steak was in a similar container and it and it's released oil where all in the main compartment of it's box, not in the side compartment suggesting that what happened to the eggs occurred before it was bagged with the other boxes. I order out a lot so I have a box in the hatchback specifically to keep orders in one place and move as little as possible. I do not drive crazy so the best I can guess is they almost dropped the container at some point when bagging it but caught it and the eggs jumped to the side. If they had been scrambled, no problem but I order over-easy for a reason, I like the yolk intact. That said, the surviving egg was cooked perfectly. Often they steam fully cooked through in the container and this did not. Well done, there! The country fried steak was nicely fried and an actual cut of steak that was decent, not ground steak which some places use. Points there. The batter was not seasoned AT ALL however so it had very little flavor until salted. You absolutely MUST season the steak before battering it or the very least, season the flour. Minus points....break even. The sausage gravy was good and not too floury. And where the steak was a good size, the hash browns were the smallest portion I think I have ever received from a restaurant. The other thing order was an egg and cheese sausage biscuit. Another thing where the item doesn't actually exist and has to be created from sides. The sausage patty was tiny. The biscuit itself was fantastic. Cost-wise the meal ended up being about $6 more than my old favorite but we're in different economic times and it was still under $30(the old place was under $20 but no longer exists. FWIW - if you're thinking that lower prices led to it's closing, it was an institution in Smyrna and was always packed. I don't know specifically why they closed but Dolly's had a lot of open seats whereas the old place would have had a wait at 10am on a Sunday. Make of this what you will). The restaurant itself is fairly barebones and you can tell initially some thought had been put into the design but that fell by the wayside long ago. I guess you could call it rustic but it's in a weird no man's land between restaurant and diner. It could use some TLC. Technically this review should probably have 3 1/2 stars but it's not an option and 4 is not too much of a stretch. The basis of everything was good so I'm definitely going to give it another shot and see if they can improve on some of the little things to put them over the top. This is basic fare and not rocket science, a little tweaking here and there would really go a long way! read more

I had to add another review after finishing a large bowl of homemade vegetable soup and delicious corn muffins for dinner that I brought home today. The soup was flavorful and full of fresh vegetables. It was just $3.99 and a perfect dinner for a cold night like tonight. I only regret not bringing home a sea salt caramel brownie for dessert! This place doesn't regularly come up in internet searches, so you can imagine my surprise to learn it was in my neighborhood and it took me 11 years to discover it. The service was excellent. I ordered my plate to go, but the lady at the counter let me sample the greens before I ordered. They were yummy. However, I ordered fried okra instead because I had a 2 side limit and macaroni and cheese was non-negotiable. I also had fried fish.
