I had a chicken salad here that came with sliced almonds, provologne cheese and cranberries that was delicious. It's very rare to find high-quality airport food so I was impressed. Abner was great to us! He understood that we had to be in & out within 30 mins so he did just that. This place is very nice and clean with great lighting and a long bar. I tried my friend's steak sandwich and fries; also very good. $23 for a small salad after tax & tip is not bad, especially considering that these are airport prices. Having a late lunch before catching my flight. At the Empanada de manchego y chistorra with a black on the rocks to wash it down. Also ordered a Jamón Serrano, added pesto sauce per bartenders recommendation, for my I flight snack. ^^* It's a bit pricey, but would you expect any less from a restaurant in an airport?? Husband and I got the paella dish and the another dish with red meat and cheese (can't remember name. We both got sparkling waters and the tab came out to $55. Not only was this place fast and convenient, but most importantly the food was amazing and the service was even better. Waiter and staff were extremely courteous, friendly, and professional. This is almost everything that's wrong with airport food. The salad Marques is a small serving of bagged lettuce and microwaved chicken breast all for a measly $17. As my boyfriend opined, "You can get a better salad at McDonald's." I fared slightly better with my paella mixta. Seafood was tasty and tender, but calling it paella is gutsy. I'm pretty sure it was the Goya brand boxed yellow rice with some chopped red pepper, onion, and green bean. For that, the flavor was awesome because I enjoy the instant rice. Service was good and they have a nice selection of wines, beers, and spirits. I guess I said it all in my opening, this is your typical airport food. read more

My wife and I ordered the Tomato bread for an appetizer which wasn't bad, our waitress forgot the oil but wasn't a big deal. For entrees we ordered Paella and mixed salad, only took about 15 minutes to arrive and tasted alright. Overall the only real gripe I have is that you're paying real restaurant prices for plastic ware and food that I could make better myself(not saying a whole lot) Decent service, food, and atmosphere. A rarity at any airport but even more surprising when compared to the corporate chain options otherwise abailable at San Juan Airport. Our waitress was pleasant and professional. One of the best meals I had this trip from the fresh squeezed orange juice to the amazing item I got off the menu. I went ahead and got eggs on horseback which consisted of two perfectly cooked eggs over potatoes and some cuts of flank steak which were great and perfectly cooked over chimicuri all in all after eating the bland food on carnival this was a good send! read more

I had 5 hours in the San Juan airport and this was my only window to eat in the middle of a 24 hour travel day. I walked the whole airport to see what my options were. I am happy that I checked Yelp as many of the places had terrible reviews. Cafe Avila had exactly what I was looking for. I was greeted and seated immediately by a very nice and engaging hostess. My server checked in with me to get a drink order. I wanted a fresh brewed iced tea, which was not available. My server brought me a pot of hot water and a cup of ice. I travel with tea bags. Voila! Iced tea. This made my whole meal. I ordered the chicken sandwich with fries. Upon arrival, it seemed to be smallish. Once I started eating I realized that it was going to be plenty of food. The fries were as fresh as can be. The sandwich had unbelievable bread which was the highlight. Chicken was good, grilled onions great, and basil was a nice touch. I opted for no bacon. The service was impeccable. Every worker in the place paid attention and offered service. A real teamwork effort. Great place in an airport. Thanks for taking such great care of me! read more

I'd give it 5 stars relative to the rest of the airport. A real dining oasis among the fast food places, where you can get well prepared small plates, seafood, delicious empanadas and amazing sandwiches. There isn't a separate lunch vs dinner menu, so it does seem expensive for lunch. But the sandwiches are large enough to share. read more

I know airport food is never very good and drinks are expensive, but still, this was disappointing. We sat at the bar and had wine and calamari. The wine was fine, overpriced of course. The calamari though was the worst I have ever had! It was way too overcooked and chewy, and the flavor was like breading with something strange. Definitely not recommended. I had time to kill in SJU so wandered over to terminal B. Was ignored at the bar but started over and asked for a table. My experience improved. For a tapas/wine bar it could be cleaner (tables need to be bussed, floor swept, fruit flies handles), but my chicken, bacon, grilled onions and pesto on baguette (with manchego added) was outstanding. Food is decent for the airport-food quality. The service is good. We ordered paella, sandwich, and pulpos (octopus). All were prepared nicely, we especially enjoyed their pulpos. Probably the most expensive airport dining experience ever, but the food was extremely tasty and of decent portion size. He had the $19 skirt steak sandwich with chimichurra and fries ($9), she had the chicken with pesto and cheese (though $2 for a dollop of melted cheese was extreme, making it a $20 sandwich with fries). This was a nice place to get away from how busy the airport was. The calamari and mussels alfredo penne pasta was cooked well and had good flavor, the wine by the glass was really great, and the gazpacho was really good, too. The staff were friendly and didn't seem to mind us staying for a couple of hours while we waited on our flight. They refilled my iced tea promptly, and the iced tea was actually really good, unlike most places I've been lately. Maybe they use filtered water? Anyway, this place is definitely way better than the other options in the airport. They also have a variety of seating, including comfortable cushiony chairs at the front, booths, and regular tables. I wouldn't say this place was cheap, but since even the junk food isn't cheap in the airport, you might as well eat something good. The wine seems to be a better bet than the martinis -- the martinis aren't very big for the price -- but, like I said, they aren't cheaper or better elsewhere. read more

If you didn't have time to squeeze in one more meal in PR before you had to go to the airport, you're in for a pleasant surprise. The food was excellent (empanada de manchego y chistorra, Patatas bravas and tortilla española); well prepared hot and served quickly by incredibly friendly and helpful waiters.
