TLDR: The bartender added $10 to my bill without my knowledge to increase his tip amount. Asked for my receipt and he voided and reran the transaction because he got caught. Make sure you pay exact cash or check your check your card notifications after purchase! Ate at the bar while waiting for a long delay. Food was good, wine was a heavy pour so no complaints there. When it came time to pay, instead of letting me sign, the bartender took the payment kiosk, signed it for me and didn't ask if I wanted a final receipt. It felt weird but I left it alone. Just took a picture of my pre tip receipt to refer to later and left. I checked the notifications from my card for the transaction when I got to my gate to compare to the picture I took and the amount looked way different than what I recall paying. I walked right back to the restaurant and asked the same bartender for a paper copy of my final receipt. When I asked for it, instead of just printing it for me, he voided the transaction, gave me a void receipt, then asked me to pay again and gave me that receipt. As I'm wondering why they did it this way, I looked over the void receipt against my new receipt and it dawned on me: the man at the bar added $10 to my bill after I paid without my knowledge and I caught him red handed. He knew the receipt would reflect this so he voided it and had me pay again for the correct amount. This is predatory and deceitful. Shame on you Metropol! Be careful with your bill and make sure you check/keep your receipt after paying. read more

Not very many sit down restaurants to choose from, we passed this place a couple of times before deciding to eat here as it was the least expensive sit down restaurant in the airport (aside from adult beverages). Breakfast menu was the only menu available at the time. I ordered pancakes (3 large) with bacon and they were rather dry. BFF ordered the Puerto Rican breakfast sandwich which was a fried egg, ham, and cheese on freshly baked bread with French fries (odd that it was not hash browns nor fried potatoes). I know people who love Metropol. It's a popular restaurant with multiple locations in different parts of Puerto Rico. I think there's one at the Dolphin Mall in Miami as well. We decided to try it at the airport for the very first time. We kind of left disappointed. It wasn't necessarily bad. It just wasn't as good as its reputation led us to believe. The service was fine. Nothing above or below standards. The restaurant was clean. The menu had some really great options. We were very close to getting the appetizer sampler of frituras, but decided to get the Bistec Encebollado. I usually love this type of palomilla style steak. It was definitely not what I was expecting. This was more like a thick cube steak or steak burger. I didn't detect much of a marinade, and it was definitely underseasoned. It's not supposed to be that way. Sorry to say. The arroz congri thankfully had more flavor, but it didn't wow me. I've had better. The maduros were the only thing that I liked. I just wish they had been more caramelized. I don't know if it's the location, or the fact that it was slammed due to an influx of passengers. I can definitely say that there was a shortage of wait staff. Perhaps a shortage of cooks as well. Once we passed through security at the San Juan airport, the first restaurant we saw was Metropol. We had just eaten at a different location right before coming to the airport, so we knew it was going to be good. We decided we would just have one last piña colada before our flight, and of course, it was delicious. I have to say that I was pleasantly surprised to find this gem of a place inside the airport. I had wanted some Mofongo and although I was apprehensive, I thought I would give it a try. Boy was I shocked, the flavor on the Mofongo was absolutely on point. I do wish that the shrimp had been grilled a little more. I think that would've really helped to make it a lot more visually appealing. I also wish they would've put some shrimp inside the Mofongo and not just on the outside. However, the flavor was great. The broth was delicious and the rice and beans were to die for. My partner had the roasted chicken and she loved it. She said it was tender. It was flavorful. Everything came to our table, hot and fresh. My only complaint would be the server. He was very rude at the end and not very attentive throughout our service there but other than that the food was great and I would definitely go again. read more

The coffee was good and I had a grilled cheese served with fries. My girlfriend had some oatmeal which she really enjoyed. My wife and I visited Metropol Restaurant while waiting for our flight from Luis Munoz Marin International Airport in San Juan, Puerto Rico. I'm glad we did because this was one of the better dining experiences I have had in an airport. The menu features a large variety of Puerto Rican and Cuban dishes. I ordered the Queso Frito and Mofongo Relleno de Ropa Vieja. The Queso Frito was nicely dense, soft and savory with a lightly crisp fried outside and paired with a sweet flavorful guava dipping sauce. The Mofongo was garlicy, soft and savory with hidden pieces of crunchy chicharron and topped with a heaping portion of tender juicy shredded beef. Overall, a solid last meal of our recent trip. Food and service was subpar even for an airport restaurant- could not get the attention of our waitress and eventually just got up and walked to the bar to get what we needed. Our food did not match what was listed on the menu (ordered toast and they served smashed day old chunks of loaf bread. Not a lot of options at the airport but stay away from this one. read more

Stopped in while waiting for a flight . Food was okay and the server was nice . The margarita was extremely sour , I could not stomach it . I ordered a don julio with seltzer afterwards and saw the bartender using well liquor for my drink . Been coming to the island for quite sometime. I was very happy to see an airport version of Metropol Spanish food restaurant on the D side of the airport. No, it's not going to be as good as the island restaurant, no the prices are not local, but it beats eating at the Dominos, or Margaritaville at the airport if you want some Spanish dishes. I had the steak and onions with white rice, beans it also came with a side of tostones. All for $18. That is an amazing price for a dish of airport food.
