    Metropol at SJU

I know people who love Metropol. It's a popular restaurant with multiple locations in different parts of Puerto Rico. I think there's one at the Dolphin Mall in Miami as well. We decided to try it at the airport for the very first time. We kind of left disappointed. It wasn't necessarily bad. It just wasn't as good as its reputation led us to believe. The service was fine. Nothing above or below standards. The restaurant was clean. The menu had some really great options. We were very close to getting the appetizer sampler of frituras, but decided to get the Bistec Encebollado. I usually love this type of palomilla style steak. It was definitely not what I was expecting. This was more like a thick cube steak or steak burger. I didn't detect much of a marinade, and it was definitely underseasoned. It's not supposed to be that way. Sorry to say. The arroz congri thankfully had more flavor, but it didn't wow me. I've had better. The maduros were the only thing that I liked. I just wish they had been more caramelized. I don't know if it's the location, or the fact that it was slammed due to an influx of passengers. I can definitely say that there was a shortage of wait staff. Perhaps a shortage of cooks as well. I may give it another chance if we make it back to the island again, but only to try the frituras.

Once we passed through security at the San Juan airport, the first restaurant we saw was Metropol. We had just eaten at a different location right before coming to the airport, so we knew it was going to be good. We decided we would just have one last piña colada before our flight, and of course, it was delicious. Our bartender was friendly, and as always, it's such good people-watching while at the airport!

I have to say that I was pleasantly surprised to find this gem of a place inside the airport. I had wanted some Mofongo and although I was apprehensive, I thought I would give it a try. Boy was I shocked, the flavor on the Mofongo was absolutely on point. I do wish that the shrimp had been grilled a little more. I think that would've really helped to make it a lot more visually appealing. I also wish they would've put some shrimp inside the Mofongo and not just on the outside. However, the flavor was great. The broth was delicious and the rice and beans were to die for. My partner had the roasted chicken and she loved it. She said it was tender. It was flavorful. Everything came to our table, hot and fresh. My only complaint would be the server. He was very rude at the end and not very attentive throughout our service there but other than that the food was great and I would definitely go again.

We arrived early at the airport and were hungry. This restaurant had sit down seating along with a bar area. We had breakfast and it hit the spot. The coffee was good and I had a grilled cheese served with fries. My girlfriend had some oatmeal which she really enjoyed. The service was really good and we enjoyed being able to relax and eat.

Food and drinks were good. The service was not good. One waitress was ignoring tables, not just ours. We finally asked another server and she did not come so we asked him and he was good about it. After us there were others that experienced this as well. Too bad if you don't want to help customers you're in the wrong field. Airport scene and update decor.

Delicious food, great service! Very busy with the early dinner crowd. Ordered the Mofongo Rellenos with Ropa Vieja. The dish was perfectly seasoned and every element was perfect. Our waiter was very attentive. A great experience overall.

My wife and I visited Metropol Restaurant while waiting for our flight from Luis Munoz Marin International Airport in San Juan, Puerto Rico. I'm glad we did because this was one of the better dining experiences I have had in an airport. The menu features a large variety of Puerto Rican and Cuban dishes. I ordered the Queso Frito and Mofongo Relleno de Ropa Vieja. The Queso Frito was nicely dense, soft and savory with a lightly crisp fried outside and paired with a sweet flavorful guava dipping sauce. The Mofongo was garlicy, soft and savory with hidden pieces of crunchy chicharron and topped with a heaping portion of tender juicy shredded beef. Overall, a solid last meal of our recent trip. I will visit again next time I am waiting for a flight.

Food was ok. Had Ham croquettes(not very hot) and Fried Pork Mofongo with creole sauce. Service was lacking, as I had to ask another server to get my server to bring me the check. The restaurant is clean, but I would not eat here again.

Food was amazing. The presentation was impeccable. The prices were to be expected and gladly paid. The server, she was amazing.

Been coming to the island for quite sometime. I was very happy to see an airport version of Metropol Spanish food restaurant on the D side of the airport. No, it's not going to be as good as the island restaurant, no the prices are not local, but it beats eating at the Dominos, or Margaritaville at the airport if you want some Spanish dishes. I had the steak and onions with white rice, beans it also came with a side of tostones. All for $18. That is an amazing price for a dish of airport food. I do recommend you stay away from all liquor as they all double and triple priced.

The restaurant itself is absolutely beautiful, and the service was excellent from beginning to end, from the hostess to the servers and bussers. Our server, Jeffery, was amazing! He was energetic, professional, attentive, and you can genuinely tell he takes his position seriously. I loved that! We were greeted with complimentary sopa de plátano and bacalaítos, and I was NOT expecting to love them as much as I did. This was by far the best sopa de plátano I've ever had. I never thought I could fall in love with a soup, but here we are! (I ordered a whole extra regular size bowl )The bacalaítos were another surprise because they're normally not something I order or even particularly like--and I've tried quite a few in my life--but these were absolutely delicious. My S/O and I shared the churrasco with arroz mamposteao, along with a side of avocado salad and majado de viandas. Everything was a straight 10/10. Not one disappointment on the table. They also make an amazing Rojo Pico, which was the perfect addition to the experience. 100% recommend Casita Miramar. Don't overthink JUST GO! My husband's friend had one job while we picked up the rental car: find us a restaurant within a few miles that wasn't trending on social media because, Lord knows, those lines are always long. This place was exactly what we were looking for. We ordered the plátano sandwich with churrasco -- yes, plantain instead of bread with skirt steak inside. We also ordered the queso frito, which was delicious on its own. The sandwich was huge and came cut into three pieces, making it more than enough to share between two people. Everything tasted fresh and flavorful, and it was exactly what we needed after traveling all night. The restaurant was busy and located along a very busy highway/road, but that didn't take away from the experience. We were tired, hungry, and just happy to find a great local spot without a crazy social-media line. Definitely going back! Apparently, they have several locations, and this one was in Carolina. A great first stop for our second Puerto Rico adventure.
