I moved to Oregon from Austin, TX (the land of amazing Tex Mex) in 2012 and began a long search for a good Mexican restaurant here. Finally, a decade later, we found it! Casa de Reyes, in Sweet Home - go figure. As we stepped inside we were greeted with the tantalizing aroma I came to know and love in my 3 decades in Central Texas: a mix of garlic, onions, cumin, tomatoes, and best of all, fresh homemade tortilla chips and salsa. Two kinds of salsa, in fact. A mild one and a spicier version, both rich red with chunks of tomatoes, onions, and fresh cilantro. I had the Poblano Relleno, stuffed with shredded chicken, dipped in a light egg batter and fried just long enough to reach a lovely golden hue. And, they made it especially for me with no cheese! My partner had the Tacos El Pastor - flour tortillas, fried just until a hint of crispness on the outside, but retaining the unmistakeable texture of fresh hand rolled tortillas. The shredded pork filling was slightly smoky and irresistible. The tacos were finished with delicious marinated onions that added an unexpected dash of Barbie pink to the plate, and came with salsa verde on the side. Both entrees came with traditional frijoles refritos - again, obviously made from scratch and flavorful enough to dip a few crispy tortilla chips into. The taco plate had traditional Mexican red rice while the Poblano Relleno had a tasty white rice pilaf on the side, with just the right amount of peas and other veggies mixed in. Both types of rice were cooked to fluffy perfection. Now, if we could just find a BBQ joint with smoked brisket and pulled pork as good as mine. :-) read more

Ordered the enchiladas chiplote today. They were amazing. Probably the best enchiladas I've ever had.

This is a somewhat unassuming location from the outside, but was pleasant once we got inside. Wasn't too busy on Friday just after the lunch hour so we were able to get a booth quickly (like there were 3 occupied tables aside from ours). Chips and salsa followed soon after, with two spice levels to choose from. Both were decent, though not the best I've ever had. Staff was friendly and smiling. The menu is heavy duty and has lots of your usual Mexican-American fare. I ordered the Reyes burrito with chicken from the lunch menu and husband had the Burrito Asado and a diet soda. Everything came out relatively fast. The soda had too much ice but we did get offered refills on that, as well as the chips and salsa. Both burritos were the usual "way too big" items but were good. Ingredients seemed well picked and cooked. Is it somewhat standard Mexican food that you end up finding? Sure, but it was good. The staff was nice, the restaurant was clean and surprisingly bright from the windows out front. Funnily enough I noticed that they had some missing anchors on their tufted booth seat backs that they replaced with regular bolts, I don't know why but I enjoyed that little detail. read more

Service was welcoming, was just super awkward walking into the restaurant because it is over seated with tables. Everyone stares at you when you walk in and then you have to wait around for someone to seat you. If I was seated in a booth I would probably feel a little different. Gross, the worst "mexican" food I've ever had. Unauthentic, covered in cheap cheese and canned sauce. Had to send my food back after 2 bites cause it was so bad. If it weren't for the locals not knowing real food thus place would close. avoid if you like Mexican food. read more

Food is hit and miss for quality. Feeling lucky? Same for the margaritas. (hint: ask for your tequila on the side and pour it in yourself.) Authentic Mexican food? Not really. Chips & salsa are ok. Wait staff is very attentive and do their best to make things right when the owner messes up your order or drink. Street tacos - skip the grilled chicken - it's so dry you'll choke on it. After multiple disappointments and hundreds of dollars spent with no improvement, will be looking for a better place for our Mexican food. read more

Best Mexican food in Linn County! Honestly, I didn't have big expectations because Sweet Home is small and I just didn't think it would be that great. Delicious! My expectations were blown away. Great service. Owner is kind and fair. We now come quite often. Drinks are good...try the Scooby Snack. My fav. The green enchiladas as the La Costena are my favorites. Prices are reasonable, generous servings (I order the 3 item combo and I always come home with leftovers) and the salsa is amazing, Our server, Frankie, was super attentive and he brought us items before I even asked for them. This was the most disappointing meal I have had in a very long time. We ordered 7 beef tacos and 7 chicken tacos to go. When we got home with the food it was cold, the tacos were sitting in a cup of water which most likely came from the lettuce. All of the shells were soggy and pretty much inedible. We all of the great reviews we were hoping for a good meal. I would never recommend this to anyone. No quality control in the kitchen and the taste left a lot to be desired. Very, very disappointed. We had the hankering for some Mexican food today and decided to try the local spot. I have to say, this place has some of the best Mexican food I've had outside of Mexico itself. The prices are very reasonable and the drinks are AMAZING, especially for the prices during happy hour. Also the best Chile Rellano I have found anywhere. They aren't kidding when they say authentic. Although the staff was very friendly, the service was very slow. The food wasn't bad but it wasn't really anything great--kind of bland actually. The kids tacos were and my kids are the type who usually devour anything... Taco Time would have had better food for a cheaper price. read more

This is some of the worst "Mexican" food I've ever tasted. The establishment looks more like a diner/bar than a Mexican restaurant. The beans were runny, the rice was extremely bland, and the carne asada was so chewy, I couldn't eat it. I have never before salted any Mexican food I've eaten and this meal was so tasteless that I had to add salt to everything. There used to be a wonderful Mexican restaurant across the street with great food, good drinks, and friendly service and for some reason, they went out of business. I can't understand why it's gone and this place is still open. It's just awful. When they feel the need to state "Authentic Mexican food" on the sign outside, it's probably not really authentic. You'd have a better meal if you went through the Taco Time drive thru. read more

Growing up in CA I am used to excellent Mexican food. Casa De Reyes is the closest thing to Mexican food I have found in Oregon so far. Prices are ok, service is pretty good. Not much ambiance and it can get noisy during dinner time. I'd recommend going during an 'off peak' time. read more

Visiting Sweet Home for the first time and my in-laws invited us for dinner here. Good atmosphere, place is fairly big, and good amount of parking. Location is nice and clean. Service is great!! They definitely make you feel welcomed. Although, the food is not the most authentic. I had the Camarones a la Diabla plate. I have never in my life had this dish with mushrooms in it. The shrimp were definitely those frozen ones you get in a bag ready to just heat up and eat. So that was a disappointment...oh and the grated cheddar cheese on my beans was just wierd. Although the food was not the best, I had a great mango margarita! Good prices all around on food and alcohol. read more

We decided to give it a try. We went in Sunday night. The food was good. I told my son to order something that he would like. He had a hard time picking something due to the last time we ate there. His last meal he had there, there was plastic in his burrito. So he ordered the same thing I did. Yes it was busy two large parties were there. It was hard to sit and enjoy our food cause the little kids were loud. I don't like loud noises. Once they left it was really quiet. I guess we need to go when their not busy. read more

Came to eat here after a day at Foster lake which is less than 10 minutes away, the food was really good and the salsa tasted great! Wish the drinks we ordered had a bit more alcohol in them, couldn't even tell they had any. Otherwise really good. Great to eat, not so much to drink. read more
