Food was..... okay. Service was the same. They forgot the tortillas for my daughters fajitas. The prices are very high for what you get and I did not like the ground beef in the enchiladas. They charge a $.75 fee for to go and $3 for using a card. Plus, $5 is way too much for a bottle of Mexican Coca-Cola. read more

Pleasantly surprised, prices were reasonable. Salsa with chips had fresh jalapeños in it, and was very good. Our waitress was brand new and found answers to all our questions. Food was unseasoned and very bland and pretty pricey for what you received. We paid $70 for 3 people to eat and we all hated our food. The service sucked too, they never ever checked on us, didn't write our orders down so they missed things we asked for, and the initial waitress had attitude when my mother in law asked questions about the menu/substitutions. It's worth the drive! Brownsville is a charming little town just a few miles east of I5. Armando's doesn't look like much from the street but after you walk inside you will find a charming Mexican restaurant. The chips were served warm and the salsa was homemade and very flavorful. The only way this place is open is because there are limited places to eat here in Brownville. Tonight I ordered my food. The server asked what kind of meat i wanted, i asked for carne asad. But when the bill came, my dish had an additional $15 charge because of the type of meat I ordered. NEVER ONCE WAS IT MENTIONED TO ME THAT THERE WAS AN ADDITIONAL CHARGE FOR CARNE ASADA, NOT EVEN ON THE MENU! Last time they were going to charge me $12 each for a small bag of chips for each my family members to go with the food I had ordered for them. The bags hold about 10 chips each. I would be happy to pay these extra fees if 1.) I was made aware of the charges prior to ordering and eating my food, and 2.) The food was actually worth it. My $15 extra charge was for about 2 spoon fulls of dry, flavorless, chewy meat. The service was terrible. The server was just chatting it up with coworkers in the back, and sort of rude, while we sat waiting for chips, salsa, silverware, napkins, food. To top it off, we didn't even get all of our food. This place is a joke!!!!! Where in the heck is Armondo?? It seems like when he isn't there, this server becomes a real pill. Nothing like feeling like I got robed. $65 for 2 meals. We ordered a 3 piece combo meal and a taco salad. I'm not going back and I'm spreading the word loudly to anyone who will listen. From now on, I'm eating at Kirks Ferry for a lot less and the food is phenomenal there. I just wasted good money on s#!% food and was treated poorly by the server. read more

This is my go to Mexican restaurant, and not just because I live two blocks from it! The food is always delicious, always fresh, and it's always consistent. If you find something you like, it's going to be the same every time you order it and I can appreciate that. I showed up with a group of about nine people and they put some tables together and we never ran out of chips and salsa the drinks kept coming the food was delicious I've got nothing bad to say about the place. The owner and the staff are very cool and once you've been in a few times it's almost like going to a friends place for dinner. This was our first time in this establishment for dinner. We were looking forward to a good authentic Mexican meal. The parking area was empty, which should have been our first clue. Should've been busy for a Saturday evening, but it was not. We walked in and finally had a younger waiter kid seat us in an empty dining area. Brought a basket of chips and a small bowl of salsa. It took about 5 minutes for the kid to come back and ask us if we wanted anything to drink. We told him what we wanted. That was another 4-5 minute wait. We gave our order. When dinner was brought to us, the plate was hot but the food was warm. We had to ask the waiter kid for silverware and napkins which took another 2-3 minutes. Brought that back, and we never saw him after that. We ate our food, and had to get a to-go box. My husband went to the front to get that, and let them know we wanted our bill. The owner? checked us out, never said how was your meal or anything, just you want your receipt. There was a fork under our table, food that someone had dropped, let alone all of the other food on the floor. Did not look like it had been swept or cleaned up after customers ate and left. Not very clean in our opinion. The owner says on their website "Our business works on making every customer feel welcome when they walk through the door, we fix our business to the best of our ability to make it feel warm and cozy, as if you hadn't left home. We work hard to keep our customers happy and coming for more" If this is how you treat a customer, let me tell you we did not feel the "warm and cozy" feeling at all. The waiter? kid never came back to ask us how our meal was, or if we needed anything else, other that chips and salsa. Needless to say, we will not go back into our "local mexican restaurant" ever again. I don't know, maybe the folks who live in town who go in there every day get better customer service, but it was pretty sad for a first time/last time customer to get this poor service. This has really good Mexican food and it's usually fast. If you like spicy they will amp it up for you but if, like me, you like mild they will make a very flavorful mild salsa for you. At first I was excited to see something in Brownsville looking a little ethnic, but then I saw the menu, which didn't even have single tacos with choice of meat. I still tried the the chili relleno to give it a chance, and it was just a slice of chile wrapped in a scrambled egg and topped with cheese. There are no meat styles such as asado or pastor to choose from. The waitress being friendly made up for the scours of the owner, and the salsa was decent. read more
