We have come to this restaurant many times for, happy hour for brunch and for dinner. The 1st couple times that we went for happy hour the service was great we sat on the patio had a good waiter and great food and drinks. The brunch was awesome on a Sunday and on a different Saturday that we've gone. But the last couple of times we've gone for happy hour and dinner the service has not been as good. I do not know if they are under staffed but the time between ordering and receiving receiving our drinks and food has been well over 20 minutes, enough time that we world have to get up and find our waiter. On Thursday a group of us went for happy hour and was told there was no longer happy hour along with the slow service we will think twice before returning. Popped in here for lunch randomly. Orderered the ribs, empanadas and polenta cakes. The ribs were amazing and so so tender. The empanadas were very tasty and different from any I've had before. They just had so much filling in them and weren't overly bready at all. Polenta cakes were also great. I would absolutely order everything again and am looking forward to trying their brunch and dinner menu. Our bartender/server was very kind and so attentive and helped answer all our questions. The first time we went here it was great! Great service and the food and drink was suburb and it was super busy. Tonight we went and it was horrible our service was slow and the place was at half capacity....we waited forever for our drinks and it was hot out....we were served warm water no ice(had to ask for some)our food was dry an so salty. I won't ever come back. Four people and with tip $320.....I don't mind paying that price if service and food was good. I'm so disgusted!! I would give a negative star if it was an option. read more

Hayward doesn't have a ton of fine dining restaurants. Went here after a performance at my son's school, and grabbed a late bite. I wish that the food was a little less pricey and if you are going to charge as much as you do, then maybe having items on the menu that are great. I thought the food was okay, but not anything to blow my mind. At this price point I want to have food that I can talk about for a few days. Everything we had was good but not memorable. read more

We came for dinner last year and swore to never come back as we had a terrible wait experience. Wasn't a busy night and to wrap it up I ordered a nice expensive whiskey that didn't come til the very end . We said why not give it another shot. Came early for brunch and was sat immediately. I found this place on a local Bay Area foodies IG and let me tell you it did not disappoint Brought my mom and God baby on a Sunday for brunch and we loved it! Since I can only give full stars and they don't deserve as low as a 3 I'm doing 4. This appears to be owned by the same man who owns my favorite Mexican restaurant "The Mexican" in Hayward across from Target on Hesperian. He also owns a slew of burrito shops around the area called Metro. Sadly I never see his son anymore, a very nice guy who always greeted us and made sure we were happy. Anyway about this place.... Prices are pretty high and the parking lot is a bit sketchy. Homeless hanging out and I didn't see cameras, Hayward is also a bit of a pain to get around thanks to those one way streets. My dinner was very good, appetizers were also good. I ordered a Bloody Mary that tasted like a sprite and returned it. Next time I'll order off their signature menu if I go back. Bottom line is I'm happy to continue to support "The Mexican" but may not be back here only because it took too long to find something I wanted to order and I left feeling like I was missing something. Came here a few months ago for our first time and the service was great! Had a couple cocktails that were good. For appetizers, we had the ceviche trio, which ended up being my favorite thing of the night. We also shared the brussel sprouts that were really good. We had the chicken wings, which flavor wise wasn't really good. I would've hoped that the cilantro ranch would've helped, but not quite. The croquetas didn't have much flavor to them. For dinner, we had the seafood platter. Scallops with bacon were good. Shrimp was nothing really special. The dip wasn't jaw dropping. The oysters are kind of pointless to me, didn't like them at all. For dessert, we had the chocolate with ice cream cake. Forgot the name, but that was amazing. If I could give a 3.5 I would, but not a 4. Maybe I'd go back to try something else, but who knows! I know they just had opened when we went, so maybe I'll go back in a few months. read more

I like the ambiance of this place. The service is very good and the food is delish! I ordered their Ribeye. It is the best one i've ever had. Better than Texas Roadhouse. Finally got to have lunch at Casa Del Toro today, it was wonderful. Love the outdoor patio. Service was wonderful and super fast. We shared the ceviche trio-so yummy! I had the fried chicken sandwich, hubby had the skirt steak. Took home half the substantial sandwich to have for dinner. Shared a margarita. It was delicious, but really strong, good thing we shared it. We were SO happy with our experience. A real jewel for downtown Hayward. They have tapas and live music on Mondays, that will be our next visit. AND here's the REALLY cool part; the owner of Casa Del Toro has purchased Buffalo Bill's Brewery and is going to re-open it-just as it was. They are doing a little work on the inside and hope to re-open in August. Wow. I don't know who the owner of Casa Del Toro is but THANK YOU. read more

We came here on a Saturday morning and we were way too happy that they served margaritas at 11:00am. The host at the front door greeted us with the same warmth and enthusiasm that she had over the phone. Once seated she guided us through their menu and drink selections. We ordered the burger and margaritas. She didn't steer us wrong. The staff was kind and welcoming. I was also pleasantly surprised at the cleanliness of the restaurant and the ambiance. 2 margaritas later we were more lit than a Christmas Tree in downtown New York lol. After we finished our meal and was deciding whether we wanted a box I found a long hair in my fries. We told our waitress we were too intoxicated to care at this point. She was kind enough to chase us down outside and give us a gift card. We both ended up with headaches and tummy aches shortly after leaving . I'll just blame the alcohol in my Jamie Fox voice. 4.6 stars. Food was pretty good overall. Deserts were good too. Service good. They have a good bar, although one of their custom drinks with ginger in it was not good. But the others were good. It was my first time trying Casa Del Toro. Overall, the food was decent, while food presentation was great. We tried shared plates. The ceviche unfortunately was just not that great. The halibut in the ceviche was missing lime. Honestly, it feels like they were trying to maybe make it into peruvian ceviche, but it just was missing flavor. The croquetas de yuca were terrible. The flavors in the croquetas just don't go and it may have helped if they drizzled the special sauce on the dry croquetas. At this point you're probably wondering why I gave it a 4! Well, the pork ribs were pretty good. They were a little spicy. And the reason I would return would be for the ambiance, the welcoming staff, and the empanadas de setas! They were delicious along with the chimichurri like sauce that accompanies this dish. They are some of the better empanadas I've had in a while. I will likely try one of the plates next time. The staff were really nice and the bartender was super attentive and honestly gave the place a good vibe. One thing to keep in mind is that it may seem upscale, but really not much on B st in Hayward is quite upscale! So, if your looking for a restaurant in Hayward where you can put on your not so causal clothes, want to experience a little upscale in Hayward, and are ok with the upscale prices then try this place out. I came here on a Friday for date night with my husband. I have to say that my husband and I were impressed and will definitely be coming back. The food was so delicious and flavorful, we both ordered the filet mignon with the side of papas bravas. The steak was so tender, juicy and flavorful. I've been here twice, once for a Sunday brunch and the other for an evening dinner. Food was great - flavorful, and presented well on the plate. Skirt steak with cilantro mashed potatoes and small salad. The steak was cooked to perfection (medium) and the chimichurri sauce was everything. We started with Tuetanos y Champinones and Fried Calamari appetizers both were flavorful and well done. For our entrees we decided on the Filet Mignon medium rare with a side of Papas Bravas and the Braised Short Rib. They were both excellent and very tasty. For dessert we had the Chocolate Bread Pudding and the Creme Brulee both delicious and well done. They have an excellent and extensive list of drinks and spirits, we kept it simple with Margaritas!
