My two friends kept raving about their $1 oyster deal on Tuesdays and Thursdays so we finally gave it a try because that is such a good deal in this economy! Parking is easy since it is inside of a plaza. The vibes are chill and the workers were quick and efficient. You order your food sort of like dim sum style where they give you a piece of paper to fill out how many of each item you want, etc. Besides their $1 oysters, we got their chow mein, karaage, chicken heart skewers, and their pork belly skewers. It has that perfect balance of a cozy neighborhood spot with a modern, clean feel. I love coming here on Fridays because it's usually packed. The curry chicken is a must! It's actually addicting. Grilled garlic butter oysters are flavor- packed. Stir-fried vermicelli, delicious and huge portion. The freshest oysters I've ever had . Garlic fries are garlicky and flavorful. Chicken Karage, crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. Their homemade aioli is made for the heavens. The chicken skin is ok. It is a bit too crispy for me. Service was also on point. The servers are always attentive, friendly, and check- in just enough without hovering. I remember one of our servers was named Phoebe. She was super- sweet. We went out for the oyster deal (1$ per oyster all day on fresh oysters tues. and thurs.) It was totally worth! The oysters were really good and a great size. I was honestly impressed and would come back for that. We also ordered some yakitori / skewers. I would say the meat skewers we probably could've split one between two people especially with how many different things we were trying. We got the wagyu skewer and pork belly, as well as shishito, quail egg in bacon, and the mushroom. Out of all of them the mushroom was my favorite which was surprising! Maybe following that is the quail egg skewer which was also delicious and chewy. Service was good, and our waiter was kind. The ambiance was good as well, with clean tables and TVs with sports... although the music was a bit funky at points. But we were vibing. (So don't go here for only yakitori) The first thing we got and tried was the takoyaki- which was actually really good! Probably one of the better ones in the area. The 2nd menu item was the curry chicken toast, which was apparently really popular. I liked the chicken curry toast. A bit hard to eat as the bread is literally the platter and inside there's chicken. The toast was crispy but soft and warm in the inside. The yakitori was okay, I wouldn't mind eating it, but I'd probably go to a different place, I don't think it's one of the better ones out there in Bay Area. The chicken karage is really good but it's definitely not the best. I would order next time but not my favorites among the things they offer in this restaurant. The final thing we ate was the chicken skin which I was originally not going to add because it isn't on the menu. Apparently is a new item and they were trying it out, they gave it to us on the house, which was nice. It was hot when we first got it but quickly cooled down so if you like it hot, eat it fast! First time trying Bar Bay after seeing the pictures on our way in to Caffe In next door. We called the day before and ordered their Malaysian Kum Heong crab and I've got some bad news...for crabs! It was delicious, spiciness just right. It had a curry flavor to go with garlic and chili, so many flavors. The server suggested the house special vermicelli that had shrimp and chicken and that was also great. Don't order the garlic edamame unless you like that garlic smell overwhelming the table. The location of this spot was a bit offbeat with not many other places nearby or they've closed down, but that didn't bother us much because parking was plentiful and it was easy to find. One thing that stood out was the ample seating area. Our table could easily accommodate 8-10 people, which was fantastic. It's definitely geared towards socializing and larger groups, unlike other bars where tables can only fit 2-4 people. The menu had a good variety, making it a great spot to gather with friends or catch a sports game. Our group was greeted with a smile the moment we entered into this restaurant. This was our first time and our server Calvin explained the menu and the ordering process. We selected most popular entrees. Let me start with Curry chicken toast: Chicken was so delicious, flavorful and tender with side curry sauce 10/10. Toast was soft from inside with slight crunch from outside. Chicken and Shrimp vermicelli was well liked by everyone in the group. It was not meant for sharing but we just couldn't resist. The side sauce is very spicy so go easy on putting it on the vermicelli and enjoy the actual flavors first. 10/10 My son liked shrimp with melted cheese although it was slightly hard for him to eat shelled shrimp but he didn't mind at all. Curry Ramen was very tasty too. We were offered four small bowls to share which was very much appreciated, 10/10. Both drinks ( Purple rain and Mango sake) were equally good. Charcoal grilled Wagyu beef skewers were 10/10 but chicken hearts were slightly over cooked I think. Phoebe was one of the servers too who was engaging and very attentive. Not a great experience. When I walked in, the server was busy talking to a friend. He just stared at me and continued the conversation while I stood there waiting -- no greeting, no acknowledgment, nothing. The food was mediocre,but the service was the real issue. I came in on a Wednesday afternoon and was the only customer in the restaurant. Despite that, the server spent most of the time behind the bar on his phone. My friend and I came here on a Tuesday for dinner, and it was pretty empty and the lighting is very dim inside, but the tables began to fill up as we waited for our food. And we sure waited. The food took a long time to come out just for it to be too tough to even eat - I had to toss out the entire lamb chop because I couldn't even chew it. I haven't eaten here in a while. It has been years now, and now I remember why. I don't know what it was but me and my boyfriend got sick after eating here. I saw Bar Bay Grill on "Check Please" and put it on my to try list. We arrived in the afternoon and it was happy hour. The oysters were $1 each so we had 1/2 a dozen. The 2 sauces it comes with is a sweet & sour and a Thai vinaigrette. It was definitely different and interesting. I came for the curry chicken toast which was featured on the TV show. The toasted bread was excellent, the curry was flavorful but the chicken was mushy and way over cooked. The curry only had the chicken and would have been better with some veggies. This place is such a vibe! Tucked away in a shopping plaza, right next door to Happy Lemon, the parking is plentiful. That's always a big factor for me when ever I go anywhere. If it's not easy to get to, I'm not going. Would not suggest this as a first or even second date situation, but it's def the spot to go with your home boys, home girls, or as a long time couple since it's basically a sports bar that's loud AF. TVs are everywhere, playing every single sport, and they seem to have a decent bar in the back (I'm not a drinker so don't quote me). The food menus are pieces of paper on the table and each table has a pencil for you to mark off what you'd like to order. List the quantity next to each item you want, and a waiter will come by to confirm your order. They'll tape a printout of your order on your table and as they drop off each item, they'll check it off. Mini Hot Pot: 4/5 We went with the tom yum flavor and this hit the spot for us. It's basically Mama instant noodle (IYKYK) but jazzed up. There was a good amount of proteins in this as well as hella napa cabbage. I love napa cabbage so this was great! Adds so much sweetness to the broth. The soup was very sour but could have been a lot spicier. I didn't taste any spiciness at all :( I did ask for pepper but all they had was a knock off sriracha. It was more sweet than spicy so didn't really do much. This is mini size but big enough to share. If you weren't ordering anything else, might not be enough for 2 people though. Cheese Corn: 3/5 Compared to everything else, this was just okay. I would get this if you just really love cheese as the cheese crust on top was so thick and toasty! However underneath the cheese, the corn is fairly loose, and not really as creamy as I'd like. This one has bacon which adds an additional level of saltiness to the dish without being overwhelming however the corn isn't sweet enough to balance it. This definitely needs a bit more sugar and mayo to be a winner. Eat this right away otherwise the cheese gets hard and chewy and then it's even more meh than when it came out. Skewers: 4/5 I love the charcoal grill flavor of the skewers. The pork belly one had a thing slightly sweet glaze that paired so well with the smokiness of the charcoal. Had the perfect ratio of fat/lean meat. The spicy scallop skewer was my fav but it was not spicy at all.. Each scallop is bacon wrapped and super tender and juicy. The saltiness of the bacon paired with the sweetness of the scallop was chef's kiss. I also got a fish tofu skewer just cause I love love love fish tofu but it's pretty basic. You know what to expect. I did try a piece of chicken heart and gizzard but it's just not for me... I don't do organs and such but wanted to give it a shot in case it changed my mind. It didn't.. but personal preference. Each skewer order comes with 1 skewer, but # of pieces on the skewer vary. Malaysian Stir Fried Vermicelli: 5/5 This one was my favorite of the night. The noodles were cooked so well, and not greasy at all. The wok hei essence was thoroughly infused into this dish, which makes it all the more legit. There's a ton of protein too, so this could really be a meal all on its own. Was not expecting all this from a bar but daaamn do they have a winner here. I only wish they offered a spicy option, or at least some ground up chili peppers to add in after. Would have been a 10/5 if it was spicy! Even though it's a bar, I didn't feel pressured to order drinks. We didn't really get checked on and it did take a bit of effort to even get the check. I really love how quick they were about everything else though, like taking our order and bringing each dish out. We didn't have to wait a long time for each item to come out. I can see how the noise levels could be off putting for some, so if you're looking for a place to catch up, IDK if this is really the place for you. Yum! My bf and I have been on a yakitori kick so we decided to give this place a try given that they weren't too busy. The first time we came, it was empty for a Saturday evening which we were content with given that most yakitori places have long waits. This place is huge with a open space and lots of TVs. We ordered a good amount for two people and my favorite was the pork belly. The fried oysters were also delicious. Their garlic toast is a must as well. They also serve Korean sul-lung-tang which is interesting! Their yakitori is decent for the price and location, but they don't specialize in it in my opinion which is why I'm giving four stars since it isn't authentic. However, it is still delicious. Overall, this place is solid given that the food is consistent for both times we've gone. Service is nice and good, plus I like that they tell us exactly what is what when it comes out. The food comes out fresh and quickly as well. I'd come back because they have much more items on the menu besides yakitori which gives this place a nice fusion hang out spot for groups that want different things.
