The most festive, beautiful, and highly euphoric Mexican restaurants I ever went to is in Wilmington, North Carolina - Casa Encanto. There ceilings and areas are surrounded by beautiful flowers and foliage. When we first stepped in we saw a birthday celebration in the restaurant and an overcrowded restaurant. An introverts beautiful nightmare yet foodie delight. Being surrounded by a group of quiet introverts- my in laws & husbands , there were tense emotions immediately: surprise, shock, dissatisfaction, and pleasure at the loud and festive ambience in the restaurants. The restaurant was super crowded on a Wednesday in Mid July and buzzing with cheer & constant noise. Instead of singing the customary happy birthday song, waiters were screaming "shots shots shots" followed by a congregation of clapping and sounds of approval from the crowds. A large wall screen would display personalized happy birthday greetings. There were probably 7 birthday celebrations during our time there. The menu offered drinks and food entrees I haven't seen in most Mexican restaurants. All of us were highly satisfied with the food we ordered. Two of us ordered burritos that were the size of cats and delicious AF. I ordered my first mezcal margarita - perfection - along with short rib tacos. The chips and salsa provided to us when we were seated were the best I ever had. I ordered guacamole dip as an appetizer to go with the chips - one of the best guacamole dips I ever had in my life. Luckily, my mother and father in law loved Casa Encanto. My husband loved the food yet he would prefer to get takeout next time. If you are looking for a quiet and beautiful place to enjoy going out with friends, loved ones, and family then this is your place. By far best salsa I ever had! The chips were a little hard, under cooked, meshed together etc. and could use some rethinking. But the salsa made them hardly noticeable. This establishment is indeed enchanting. We went on a weekday late afternoon so that we could thoroughly enjoy the decor, good, and cocktails without feeling rushed. I was expecting charming decor elements, but I wasn't anticipating a virtual show with a wall that displayed beautiful natural scenes and a sky with floating clouds hovering above the bar. The immersive experience was lovely, the Granada Margarita was exceedingly delicious, the chips and salsa were some of the best I've had in the area, and the mahi tacos and al pastor quesadilla were outstanding. It was our first time here, it was Saturday afternoon and it was after 1:00. We were seated right away. They bring chips and salsa to the table. The salsa was pretty good! We tried their guacamole and just had sodas . The decor is really cute and it can be a great place at night for a date or just a group of friends. When the meal.came out, the tortillas and extra plates didn't come with the fajitas, it was brought out separately. Very odd. And when we wanted to flag someone down, the other wait staff didn't step up to help. And the music was waaaaaay too loud. Low ceilings and crowded space, the volume could have been half as much and still worked for the environment. At other restaurants, the chicken has been on the dry side. My other friend ordered the Huevos Rancheros, however, the eggs were very overcooked. The yolk should be runny. The waitress never asked how my friend liked her eggs. The waitress took the dish back and had them re-made. She did ask how the eggs should be cooked. This was our first visit to Casa Encanto. What can I say - but absolutely splendid! The ambiance is elevated, the drinks magical, and the food is some of the best we have had. The chips and salsa were to die for! Hearty chips with just the right crunch and salt! The fire roasted tomato salsa was so flavorful we added to our main dishes as well. The birria tacos and chimichangas had plenty on the plate and were fresh, hot, and seasoned well. Also, don't miss the beautiful decor throughout the restaurant. Same owners as Zocalo and El Cerro. Restaurant is vividly decorated from top to bottom with plants in flowers on the ceiling and thoughtful see through screen shades on the windows. Felt like I was in the club with the upbeat dance music (Spanish and English). Enjoyed the complimentary house made fluffy tortilla chips (same as Zocalo) that came with four servings of salsa. I was confused why they gave us so much salsa but it made sense after I tasted the flavorful fire roasted salsa. Glad we got another basket of the delicious crunchy tortilla chips to finish the addicting salsa. We ordered the ultimate California burrito ($17.99) and Pueblo Lindo ($26.99). Pueblo Lindo comes with 8oz carne asada steak, Green tamale, chicken tinga chile relleno, street corn, chile toreado, two sides and a choice of either corn or flour tortilla (not made in house). Partner liked the burrito with the hot sauce, finished all of it. Burrito overpriced, would've expected a larger portion. Couldn't finish Pueblo Lindo, it was huge especially with the sides. Even though it was pricey, at least it was worth about 2 meals. The Carne Asada was chewy. It came with a regular knife, but needed a steak knife to cut it. Otherwise, loved the grilled flavor and the chimichurri-like sauce on top and pickled red onions. Green tamale and chicken tinga chile relleno were both good. They forgot the street corn that came with it so our waitress gave us extra tortilla chips to go to make up for it. Loved the tart seasoning on the street corn. The corn itself was cooked just a little bit too long, but I didn't mind the super soft corn. Even though not housemade, the Flour tortillas (three pieces) were good, grilled and warm, served wrapped in foil. For the sides chose the Mexican rice and guacamole salad. Mexican rice was perfect. It is quite loud and there are lots of different lights so if you or your kids have sensory sensitivities it might be a lot, but it is very beautiful. Service was very friendly and attentive. Food was good. Not the best Mexican food in town by any means but it was good. My kids had queso dip which they all said was salty but flavorful. They had horchata which they said was great. I had mar y Tierra. Was supposed to ribeye, shrimp, scallops and mussels. I didn't get a rib eye, I got a skirt steak with a big chunk of grilled rib eye fat lol it was quite funny. And no mussel- they were tiny clams that barely existed on the shell. The shrimp is still on the shell with head but cut in half. Came with rice, plantains and salad. It was fair but not worth the price especially because I didn't actually get ribeye or mussels. Came with a chimichurri sauce that was lacking flavor and was basically oil. The entire plate was very very greasy and oily. Even the rice was shiny lol My wife had the quesadilla azteca and she really enjoyed that. The tortillas were also fresh- especially the chips. After making a lunch reservation for six people two weeks in advance, double-checking the reservation in person once and over the phone twice, my reservation was nowhere on the list when our party arrived. However, we were seated after a short wait. The meal service was exceedingly slow, and the food we received was often not as described on the menu. Although our server was pleasant and seemed to be trying hard, after much waiting we had to keep asking other servers to find her whenever we needed anything because we couldn't locate her on the floor. We didn't order any alcoholic drinks or appetizers, yet It took almost two hours to receive our meals and pay our bills. My friends reported that some, but not all, of their entrees were good. I ordered a vegetarian omelette with no sauces on the omelette and asked that all the herbs/garnishes be put on the side. When my meal arrived, a sauce totally covered the omelette, which was flat like a tortilla because all the vegetarian elements that should have been inside the omelette were sitting on a plate that was served separately. To her credit, our server asked if I wanted another omelette, but it had taken so long for our table to be served that I declined her offer. Three birthday celebrations at other tables took place while we were there. For these events, the music was blasted incredibly loud, and servers shouted at the birthday celebrants to drink their shots. The music had already been so loud that it was almost impossible to carry on a conversation, and we found ourselves having to shout at one another throughout the meal. While the entrees we ordered were reasonably priced, the small, unremarkable desserts were $8.99 each. I had selected the restaurant for our group based on a friend's recommendations, but I found myself constantly apologizing throughout the meal. On the plus side, the restaurant is beautifully appointed, although the bathrooms are badly in need of a paint job. This is Rainforest Cafe on steroids. The ultimate family restaurant. Birthdays are celebrated with gusto. Portions are huge. Leftovers will last a week. My friend enjoyed a shredded chicken burrito the size of Arkansas. Others had fajitas and ceviche, and I was pleased to see octopus prepared several ways. I did not care for whatever cheese was used in the cheese enchiladas. It was not melty at all, but more rubbery and chewy. The mole sauce was fantastic and very flavorful. It also came with a Chile Relleno. It was stuffed with zucchini that I felt was undercooked and did not have a lot of flavor.
