We really enjoy Casa Las Katarinas. They are under new management and the manager, Dakota, is super friendly. The service is excellent and very friendly. They served us quickly and refilled water and brought extra chips and salsa! Extra chips are always a plus! The food is so delicious with some of our favorites include the carnitas, fajitas, fish tacos, and chicken enchiladas! They also have a wonderful drive through easy curbside pick up which is very convenient! I highly recommend! read more

We we're staying in Grass Valley for a few weeks and decided to give this place a try since Mexican food is one of our favorites. We ordered two of the chicken burritos. I do not mind shredded chicken, but my wife does so I ask if they could change it out for grilled chicken. They were accommodating; however, they charged me $5 more for the burrito. That seems a bit ridiculous for grilled chicken breast. The food was good and the wet sauce on the burritos was delicious. Since we prefer grilled chicken, we would not go back again. read more

I've passed by this place so many times and never walked in. Literally the biggest mistake of my life. I ordered a wet chicken burrito and I'm not exaggerating when I say that it was probably in the top 3 best burritos I've had in my life. Which is saying something because I've lived all over California and have had my fair share of burritos. The chicken was perfectly moist and shredded. The sauce on top was perfectly seasoned and tasted like heaven. The ratio to cheese, sour cream, and guac was on point. I actually was shocked at how good it was when I took my first bite. WOW....our new favorite Mexican food restaurant! Food and service was beyond outstanding! I had the carnitas and hubby had a grilled shrimp dish and both of us were loving every bite!! Our server was super polite and friendly, kept our sodas, chips and salsa refilled without having to ask. The only... and I repeat only negative about this place is that it's not open for breakfast or lunch. :( I bet they'd make some yummy huevos rancheros! Katarinas has been here for some time just haven't had the opportunity to try. We were out on a very rainy night coming back from Auburn and stopped in to try the food. Thursday night only a hand full of tables were full. We're seated immediately. Chips, salsa and water brought right away. Order taken right away. Food came out about 10 minutes later!! No refills on drinks, water, or chips while we waited. I ordered steak, chicken and shrimp fajitas hubby ordered chili rejano and taco. He said his was very bland. Mine was ok, a lot more onions and peppers the meat. We travel extensively and our goal while traveling is to find a good Mexican place. Maybe people in GV are older and can't handle the flavors and spice of Mexican and that's why the food is so bland???? read more

Casa Las Katarinas is the best! And I mean the best! My family used to own a home in Grass Valley, and we went to Katarinas 2-3 times a week! We sold the home a couple years ago... and we still drive 3 hours just to go there. We want to buy another home in Grass Valley- and Casa Las Katarinas plays a huge role in that. And I'm not exaggerating. Also, I'm a vegan. And they have a huge vegan menu- with vegan deserts!!! When do you ever see that? Most restaurants do not know how to cook vegan, but let me tell you- Las Katarinas knows how to cook the very best vegan food. My family consists of meat-eaters, vegetarians, and vegans. When we go to Las Katarinas, everyone is satisfied with the best Mexican food we've ever had. They cook anything from meat, to fish, to vegetarian, to vegan... and they cook everything to pure perfection no matter what you get. To be honest...I've never had a good meal at Casa Las Katarinas. I say this because every single meal I've had has been beyond excellent!!! Adding on to the delicious food, you have the nicest ownership and employees. I attended a group holiday party, December 2019, and was disappointed in the food. Food choices for the group were carnitas, shrimp enchiladas, chicken breast with mushrooms/poblanos suizas sauce, and vegetarian tacos. I selected the chicken and was dismayed to be served an enormous burrito with suizas sauce. The meat inside the burrito was not chicken breast; it was dark meat, probably chicken thigh meat. I suspect our organizers misunderstood the choices available when the chicken breast was in fact a chicken burrito. I complained to the waiter when he returned that I'd ordered the "chicken breast." He took my entree back to the kitchen and returned a few minutes later with it and said "this IS the chicken breast." I do not particularly like burritos, would have eaten the stuffed interior, but it was terrible, meat tough and stringy. Inedible..I left the entire burrito untouched. Staff made no attempt to offer me something different. Woman next to me said the shrimp in her enchiladas were hard and tough, the thing that happens to over cooked shrimp. Dessert was not good either--pear crisp, cooked pears topped with rock hard bits of granola and a tiny bit of vanilla ice cream AND whipped cream--who pus both on a dessert? I will not return. One of the worst dining experiences I've had in a long time. read more

I had to post this 3 bites into my food. Ive worked in a kitchen for 7+ years. THIS MEXICAN FOOD IS THE BEST IN THE AREA PERIOD. Nothing comes close. Ordered a tamarind margarita and carnitas chimi. All the flavor. Melt in your mouth. Fry oil is clean and the perfectly crisp and flaky tortilla shows that. Every ingredient perfectly cooked. I cannot explain how amazing this is. My wife and I order take out weekly. Even though their regular menu items are "special" their specials are special+. Dakota makes the experience even better with his great personality. Not impressed. We ordered 2 ice teas and my husband ordered a burrito. I wasn't that hungry so I figured I'd munch on chips and salsa. Our server made a big deal about me not ordering, telling us we'd be charged a split charge for my husband's burrito if we didn't order another dish...what?! We asked questions and tried to explain we weren't sharing his burrito, but he went on and on about a split charge and told us to order the kale salad to avoid it. It was awkward, confusing and uncomfortable...we felt pressured into ordering food we didn't want. The server brought us the kale salad despite our protests. It was terrible. I would never return.
