Stopped in to grab lunch. I ordered two steak tacos. Despite being the only customer ordering, there was a bit of a wait. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Instead of smelling aromas of food being cooked, I smelled strong cleaning products being used that were unpleasant.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]I took my two tacos outside to a bench to eat and as soon as I sat down a transportation vehicle illegally parked in the handicapped spot and was left idling. So now I am was smelling exhaust fumes.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I took my tacos to the car and drove somewhere else to eat them. They were good. Price for two was around 6 dollars. read more

Today was my first time ordering from here. I chose a carnitas super burrito and was extremely disappointed with the low quality ingredients and blandness. The carnitas were mostly pieces of fat attached to very small & flavorless meat and included a bonus 2" piece of bone. The burrito was about 80% rice with a tiny bit of shredded iceberg lettuce and sour cream. The burrito and a coke was roughly $17. There are other more authentic and delicious Mexican restaurants in town. I won't be returning to El Barrio. read more

Went in today..June 6th...see receipt. Their tacos and burritos are delicious! Love their carne asada ...well seasoned and yummy! I also like their fajita mix of meat and veggies..easy to cook up! Today i got a free burrito because i had the card stamped every time i bought their taco or burrito ( see picture). The carne asada burrito was massive..enough for 2 adults! Love the spicy salsa that comes with it! Very authentic ! This is also a market and a gift shop. Beer and wine also available. Plenty of hot sauces to buy. Nice and cool inside. Take out. Came here for the first time today and it did not disappoint. Got the barrio burrito which has pastor y asada and it was super good. Staff is friendly and just overall a cool place. lots of different stuff, things that may be harder to find in your normal grocery store and things that you only see in the Oxxo or Chedraui so that's a plus. Our corvette club came here for lunch and everyone loved the tacos, burritos, homemade chips and more. The owners Matt and Haven were so friendly and welcoming. We had a corvette show in their parking lot and loved talking to people coming by. I was so surprised by the adorable gift shop that was part of the market. They had beautiful items all made in Mexico. I got a small purse and great hat. We will definitely be back for a yummy authentic Mexican lunch. read more

My little sister lives right down the road from El Barrio and told us we needed to check it out when we came through town over Thanksgiving. Boy was she right! We went 4 times during our visit. My handsome husband is half Mexican and was thrilled by the quality of the meat and burritos; we live in SoCal and are quite spoiled with quality Mexican food normally, so such a high score from him really means something. The burritos are huge and very reasonably priced, and the beans, rice & salsa are on point. Sis also highly recommends their breakfast burritos, FYI. The shop is small but perfectly tidy, with fun things like tiny pinatas (got one for my new nephew!), lots of interesting drink options, and a well-stocked carniceria. This place was always pretty good but they've been sliding downhill more and more. Got a regular carnitas burrito... all the meat on one side, all the rice on the other. The only thing consistent with it was it's so oily/greasy. Saturated all the way through. Like ridiculously excessive. Inedible. Sign states two salsas with every order but now they'll only give one and charge a fee for a second. Needless to say but this will be the last time I give them my business. Oh well. read more

But this review is about the store itself: Wow, this place has all the Mexican grocery items I grew to love when I lived in a neighborhood down south with a store like this. Never thought we'd be able to find this stuff in Grass Valley. So thankful for it! Heck, if you don't know what I'm talking about, just try their house tortilla chips. Had to check it out as a friend brought over some taco fixings the day before. It was sooo good that we needed to get more meat to finish up the leftovers! We had the al pastor and carne asada, which is highly recommend. I also got some Emperador sandwich cookies, because we had to have dessert. It's a super cute market with a lot of selection in the space. They've got a grocery section with a meat counter and a food counter where you can order fresh tacos and burritos, plus the gift shop on the other side. The employees were also fantastic! They were all very friendly and helpful throughout the store. I'm looking forward to checking out more next time.
