I'm torn. I feel like this place deserves a 4, but I think I'll leave it at the three with an explanation. The facilities. The place was clean, but it really needs to be updated. The tables had linoleum on the top that had portions missing, some of it was lifting off of the table which made the plates uneven on the table. A little update would go a long ways. The people. No complaints at all. Everyone was nice. They were all very attentive and stopped by the table many times to check on us. The food. I was solo, my wife was at an event in town. I had the fish tacos, this is why I'm going with a 3. It's a restaurant, the food really needs to be the star. The fish was so dry, I had to get extra sauce, and then add salsa on top of that just to get them down. 3 might be overrated, maybe 2.5. Let's start with the chips and salsa. Of course the salsa was nothing but tomatoes and some onions but that's usually expected because they have to appease everyone's pallet so we got the hot salsa which was about 3 1/2 out of five. The margaritas were good. We got the fresh squeezed juice margaritas I would give it a four out of five I got the steak plate. The steak was not seasoned at all. It just taste like they just took the steak and threw it on the grill. They even put salt and pepper on it again the beans were not good. The rice was not good. My husband got the chicken Street tacos. They had absolutely no flavor so that they use no seasoning in any of their food but again I think that they have done their food down to a piece to what I would say the Caucasian pallet I was very disappointed $100 later. read more

Came in for a nice meal and I did not leave disappointed. The margarita was very good, not too sugary. Also ordered a mojito and it was also very good. The guacamole was good but did not taste as if it was freshly made, the chips and salsa were plentiful and fresh. Great staff! Good food! Wonderful margaritas that don't give me heartburn. I love the Mexican rice. My husband loves, lives, loves the Mexican stew (abuelos ?). The stew has beef, chicken and mushrooms in a Tomatoe based broth. It comes with rice, beans, Avocado, Pico and tortillas. Many menu choices. Highly recommend. read more

Visited this Mexican restaurant as we continue to look for a great Mexican restaurant since moving to EDH. So here is my thoughts. First the service was awesome and from the time we walked in to the time we left, we had excellent customer service. Our drinks were always full and the young lady was bringing everything we needed timely. The beef fajitas were really good and tender and had good taste. Appears they were marinated in soy sauce as it has hints of soy sauce. Good flavor and would definitely order this again. The rice and beans were good and first beans we taste in a while that don't taste like canned or store bought beans. My guest said the cheese enchiladas were tasty and so was the tostado that was part of the combo. Overall, this is a good place. We will continue to look for additional authentic Mexican food where they have the fresh made or homemade flour tortillas and fresh food. For now, this will be our go to should we want Mexican food. The ambiance is typical Mexican restaurant with a lot of space. Good size restaurant. read more

Meh is the best descriptor for the food here. I had the El Fundido, supposed to be fried and covered with sauce and cheese. It was a soggy mess topped with squares of american cheese of all things. The rice tasted as if it had been frozen and thawed out. Refried beans vastly under seasoned. I also ordered a skinny margarita and it came in a tiny glass ($10) while my partners margarita ($19!) came in a hurricane glass. Partner had the fajitas and while the steak was perfectly cooked, the rice was the same yucky rice. Our server was nice, though, and the decor is good. Food not ao much. Used to love this place when it was Casa Ramos. Definitely not the same now! Bad service (slow and with attitude), bland luke-warm food, chewy chile rellenos, meh salsa, watery margaritas, wimpy portions, nasty bathrooms. Plus, a service charge for using a credit card. I think the only thing keeping this place open is the fact that it is right off the freeway on the way home from So. Lake Tahoe and is located next door to a motel. We went there on a Saturday afternoon on 3/7. There were 3 of us. We were seated promptly with little greeting. The host put menus on table and he walked away well before we got to the table. Server fairly friendly, took our order without a tablet or paper. Our order came to the table and my husband's order was wrong, but he decided to keep it as to not wait longer. My son ordered the seafood enchiladas, extremely bland, rice and beans were OK but again, all was so bland and lacking of seasonings and color. I ordered just a chicken taco, rice and beans. The chicken taco was completely tasteless. Basically tasted like boiled chicken without any seasonings that was just thrown into a plain tortilla. Heading up Highway 50 to Camino on a cold day, we wanted to stop for a nice warm meal. Glad we found Casa Los Abuelos. Staff was friendly and welcoming. The booth seating was very comfortable. Lots of choices on the menu. My husband ordered the tortilla soup, which he said was very good. I had the Chile Colorado, which is slow braised beef, classic red chile sauce with rice, beans and tortillas ($11.59 on the lunch menu). Went to the restaurant two times. First time we went during the week and was great service wise. Food was not too bad and they were very prompt and attentive with our food. The second time was on a weekend and well it was crazy busy. We waited 20-25 minutes for a table. Waited another 40-1 hour for our food. Food by that time was not hot anymore and honestly I think they forgot about us because the taco shells were also stale. Kind of disappointed with the service the second time. My family has been coming to Casa Ramos for many years and we were sad when Casa Ramos closed at the beginning of the pandemic. We were ecstatic when we discovered Casa Los Abuelos was open, that we could dine inside and that the Ramos family is still making their amazing food. We ordered enchiladas and were not disappointed. According to David Ramos who served us, the Ramos family takes great pride in the preparation and sticking to their family recipes, down to the beans and Spanish rice (that my wife says is just like the Spanish rice her mom makes). We have been coming to this excellent restaurant for many years, going well back to when it was Casa Ramos. It's far overdue for me to write a review of this Placerville gem. The friendly staff does a great job, and they are very welcoming every time we visit. Notably Eric, Johnny and David always make us feel at home there. The food is super consistent and reliable. We have tried much of the menu. My favorite is the Chili Colorado, and my wife generally orders the Chimichanga (usually with picadillo) or the shrimp dishes such as the Camarones Diablo. The Pollo en Mole is also very good, and also the Carne Asada. The chips and salsa are fresh and excellent. We also really enjoy the margaritas, usually requesting some kind of slightly higher-end tequila like Cazadores or Herradura. We started ordering take-out during Covid, something we honestly never thought of doing from this restaurant before that. We wanted to support them during those difficult times, and hey, the food is awesome, so why not! Now that their dining room is happily back open again, we still order take-out from time to time when that fits better with our busy schedules. Their online ordering system works very well, and the food is always hot and fresh when we pick it up. Highly recommended. read more

Average at best, dinner style food. Stopped in for lunch. Immediately you smell the restrooms when you walk in. I was seated in the back in a dark corner, chairs where stacked on the table as if that section of the restaurant was not open. As far as the food, everything was covered in shredded lettuce, temperature just warm enough to not send back, overcooked rice, very bland. Under the table has not been swept in some time. My only reason for giving 3 stars is that we had a family member buy dinner and when they used the two gift certificates for this restaurant to pay the bill there was an extra 4% charged for using those gift certificates. The crappy thing I discovered when paying the bill was they charge a 4-5% premium to use a credit card to pay the bill, and didn't say anything. I had to ask. I have never experienced this before. Finally we have found a decent sit down Mexican restaurant in the El Dorado County area. Being used to good places to go to in the Coachella Valley, Orange County, and L.A. area we have been consistently disappointed in the offerings of where we now live. We stopped for a quick lunch on an outing from our home to Amador County to hit a few wineries to kill the day. We ordered from the lunch menu. Both of us had the enchilada plate which consisted to a single enchilada, rice, and beans. We thought that the food was tasty, hot, and served promptly. The chips were good as well as the salsa. Everyone as doing what they needed to do 30 minutes and I'm still waiting after about 45 minutes not one person has asked water more water or stale chips. The floor staff looks like the had it under control. When I first walked in I asked for a private area so I can store my walker the old guy said it's all public we don't want and private tables, the Oder lady took took charge and got me and even asked me if I would wanted there. So ok here I wait for some average meal about 45 minutes I stand up and get my walker. The state the place in wheel chair assc but it's a but lot. Would I ever come back? I've enjoyed a few Friday early evening dinner/drinks with some co-workers. I was so disappointed when I was in the restroom and when sitting there, a pretty large amount of water splashed on me coming from a leak above me. My back was soaked. I immediately went to the front counter to ask for the manager. Did he come? No! I waited for a bit then told the hostess to have him come to my table. He came to my table all right, with my bill.
