Hubs and I are in town visiting and decided on Brick's for dinner tonight. We called ahead to ask if they take reservations. They do not, however they do something called a "fast pass" which basically means they put your name down and if you arrive while there's a wait, you get seated before anyone else who is waiting and does not have a fast pass. Kind of a different approach. I was glad that when we arrived, there wasn't anyone else waiting and there were tables available. Service was very attentive and friendly. He took our drink orders and allowed us some time to decide what to eat. Hubs and I both debated between multiple options- a lot sounded so good- but we both decided on the filet mignon. On the menu, it indicated that the dish comes with a béarnaise sauce; my husband really doesn't care for tarragon so he requested a substitution of their mushroom rosemary sauce instead (which is offered with their ribeye), and they happily obliged. The meal also included Yukon mashed potatoes and veggies. Our food was delivered soon after and I was pleasantly surprised that not only were our steaks still very warm but that they were cooked a perfect medium rare. The quality of the steaks was great, they were nice and thick. The veggies were, for the most part, overdone and a bit soggy, but that's not something that bothers me too much. The potatoes had good flavor but could have used much more milk/cream as they were pretty dry and firm. The experience was a good one and I would definitely return if we lived closer. I had a rare weekday free and Hubs wanted to have lunch at Brick's in Placerville. I gave it a go; and enjoyed the vibe and food. It's a restaurant and bar on Main Street. He's been there before and it was my first time. The menu includes appetizers, salads, sandwiches, burgers, and entrees such as meatloaf, lamb chops, and three different cuts of steak. I had the cup of French onion soup $6. It was delicious. The broth had a strong, beef broth with significant amount of caramelized onions topped with bread layered with melted cheese on top. The top cheese layer was broiled or baked a bit giving the cheese crisp edges around the bowl's rim. There was even a terrific satisfying visual cheese pull. You know the kind when the spoon breaks the top layer and grabs onto the cheese and stretches along with the tug of the spoon as you scoop. Mmm. Then I ordered fish n chips $20. The fish was good. It had a crisp, golden exterior. Not to much breading. My fork broke through the crust and it gave a crackle sound. What a satisfying food audible. The fish was moist and flaky. The filets were not hunky sized ( not scrawny either) but I got 4 pieces so it made up in total for a plentiful serving size. The fries though were basic. Basic ain't bad. They're steak cut style fries. The order also came with slaw. Not coleslaw but a lighter dressed oil based version with purple cabbage. I liked it. And when I reached for the ketchup to check the ingredients, I noticed the Heinz bottle label stating "Simply". Yes! Ketchup without HFCS! A rarity in restaurants. Hubs ordered a Bricks burger $16.50 that comes with cheese and served with a side of fries. So a slice of cheese is not an additional add on. He added bacon for $2.50. The patty was a half pound of ground Angus. The bun looked bakery quality, it was grilled a bit. I took a bite of the burger. Darn tasty. The interior has a bar to the right side and dining room to the left in an open floor plan. I can imagine when the place fills up, it can get loud. The vibe was family friendly. Customer service from the host to our waitress was terrific. The bar sells beer, wine and hard liquor. The interior has paintings of Main Street buildings and scenery which I thought was a neat decor item. read more

Originally we went on a Saturday night, which they didn't let us in because not having a reservation. Obsessed with this placed, we tried it again on a Sunday night with a reservation. The inside seats are pretty nice and I don't think they have any outdoor seats. The union soap was very very good. I have never seen my son asking for more soap, which was the case for this delicious dish. Ribeye steak was good, but the potato was not very good. The green fried tomato was no good either. I had the filet mignon which normally comes with a béarnaise but I hate tarragon so I asked for the rosemary mushroom sauce instead. The sauce was very thick and sweet but it tasted better than a béarnaise. The steak was cooked perfectly medium rare and seasoned well. The Yukon mashed potatoes were a bit disappointing. They were super dry and were more like a hockey puck than creamy mashed potatoes. But they had good potato flavor. The veggies were good too. I'd go back but I'd get something different. The service has always been great and (I think our servers name was Carter) this experience was no exception. My last couple of meals, we feel the quality of food has gone downhill, especially their steaks. If you want a nice, juicy and tasty ribeye, you're not going to find it here anymore. This is the only restaurant that we have ever ordered a filet that has a large vein of fat running through it. Their ribs were good as are their fried green tomatoes (when they're not out of them. The service is really top notch but I think we won't be coming back until we hear that things have changed as we've just had too so-so or disappointing meals since the first of the year. I really have always wanted to like this place, but I leave disappointed every time. The food is expensive and just okay. Don't get me wrong, its not terrible but its not great either. Its a good place to go for drinks as they serve hard alcohol and a large variety of beers, but its loud in there too and hard to have conversations when its super busy. read more

Wednesday late afternoon 10/22/2025 The hotel that I was staying at highly recommended this place for food and drink. I checked it out, sat at the bar, the bar was full, ambience was awesome, light music playing, the bartender, "Victor, " awesome guy, pleasant, and polite, I ordered a Citranic DIPA and also ordered Ba Ba's, spicy blacked lamb chops served with a sweet pepper relish, I was enjoying the beer, and then the lamb chops came out. Tables are always 'sticky'! It's just gross, they desperately need to be resurfaced. The owner needs to sit at one of the tables and just feel the surface, then go to several other tables. Yuck! This is not a case of them needing to be cleaned, something has happened to the finish. read more

We stumbled upon this place while walking around downtown and we are so happy we did! The fried green tomatoes were amazing! The fish and chips were cooked perfectly and a good size portion. My wife and I drove to Placerville to enjoy lunch and sun this afternoon. The service was excellent throughout the lunch. My wife ordered and ate the Tuna Melt. She remarked that the tuna tasted old and the bread dry. I had a cup of the French Onion Soup. It was excellent including not salty like many are. I also had the Hot and Spicy Shrimp with bread. It was way to hot and spicy as I could not taste the shrimp. I could not taste the cheese bread when I dipped it into the spicy, garlicy sauce. read more

Great place to stop for a bite right in downtown Placerville. We were seated pretty quickly on this busy day after Thanksgiving. We only ordered drinks and appetizers but I saw the burgers other people were ordering and they looked huge and delicious! We had the cheesy garlic bread which was huge and the hot and spicy shrimp. The shrimp had amazing flavor and the sauce was indeed spicy but quite good. The martini flight was a fun order, loved every one I tried. The place was hopping and seemed like a fun hangout. They also have many beers on tap and a few different tv screens as well. Atmosphere was welcoming. Staff friendly. Food came out fairly quick. Meatloaf and mashed potatoes were ok. The gravy was very thick and a bit overwhelming as it was covering the entire plate. Mashed potatoes were not warm like the meatloaf was and lacked a creamy consistency. Steak medallions were also okay. There were a few good pieces of fat left on that I was not expecting or didn't notice as the plate was also covered with the thick sauce on top. Ever since the Independent got rid of their amazing fried chicken, Brick's has been our go-to in Placerville. I've never had to wait for a seat (though admittedly I avoid the weekends) and service is always friendly and prompt. This is a no-frills joint, but the food is really punching above its weight class. The sweet potato planks are a MUST order. The portion is incredibly generous (too much for the 2 of us, honestly) and their ranch is absolutely phenomenal. I was trying to go meatless and was excited to see the fried green tomato grilled cheese as an option. It was amazing, and I loved the contrast with the melty cheese and crispy tomato--with the bread it made for an amazing crunchy texture. I got a side salad and their house dressing was delicious. French onion soup is excellent. I have tried French onion soup across this great country and I have been to France 8 times. Bricks is one of my favorites. There was plenty of sliced mini baguette croutons. Cheese was baked well and stretchy. Broth was tasty and not too salty like others I've had. And yes, the onions were tender and sliced well. I read the reviews before I visited, and one yelper said the broth had no flavor or was watery. It wasn't so on my night. Best of all, with a sandwich, you can opt for a cup of soup instead of fries. It's kinda rare to find a cup-sized French onion soup. Most restaurants only do the crock bowl. Cup was perfect with my Malibu Chicken Sandwich that was also excellent with its chewy bacon, ripe avocados, fresh lettuce, seasoned chicken, and butter-toasted sliced sourdough. Usually, our drive from Genoa NV to the Bay Area is a straight shot, but there have been times that a Lunch-time stop was a welcome respite to what would be a long day. I enjoy the beer selection, although I think their ample IPA selection could be slightly reduced to make way for more robust brews like a Brown, Stout, or Quad Belgian. We're greeted with a very welcoming server--they had half their head shaved and an awesome arm tattoo. I forgot their name. I've gone several times with my husband and friends, and the food and service have always been acceptable. Today I ordered the Pastrami Reuben sandwich and it was awful! The sandwich was so dry I kept having to take sips of water with every bite. The pastrami was piled on meagerly and was hard and also dry. Cute restaurant, parking was free and easy to find despite the busy and central location. Huge menu with wide variety of options. My friend got the tuna melt and I got the fish and chips. Excellent lunch experience! Bricks is well located on Main Street in charming downtown Placerville. It has an expansive dining and bar area and was clean as a pin. It was quite busy for lunch on a Friday but we were quickly seated. Our server was great - friendly, knowledgeable and kept a close watch on us throughout our meal. I love their French onion soup which has deep flavors and perfectly caramelized onions. Sweetie tasted it and remarked that it was not over salted like so many restaurants. I then moved on to fish and chips which featured four nice beer-battered fillets, excellent fresh cut fries and a fantastic and complex homemade slaw. Sweetie had the fried green tomatoes which are billed as a small plate but are anything but small. She also had a side order of grilled shrimp. The FGTs were excellent and tasted very fresh and the sauce was excellent as well. Shrimp were plump and nicely grilled on the burger grill which gave them a great grilled flavor.
