He is enthusiastic about his art of brewing and you see his enthusiasm in his service. Excellent selection of a variety of beers many winning awards. Whoaaa, this brewery restaurant is sooooo missing the mark!! Considering this is a very competitive business, I hope they take note. We walked in soon after they opened and three staff members were standing inside about 10 feet away from where we entered with no customers there except us. Nobody greeted us! Seriously, not one of them said anything until I said hello and then one of them said hello and the other welcome. At the bar, the bartender told us the menus were on the counter. We figured out for ourselves that there were two menus, one for food and one for beer. The bartender explained that we can place food and beer orders with him and so we went to a table. After deciding what we wanted, we went up and placed an order with the bartender. Still nobody was in the restaurant. He poured the beers and asked if we wanted to keep a tab open. We read another review on Yelp which said they charge a 20% gratuity to have a tab open. One of the owners responded to that Yelp review stating that there is a sign behind the counter which says they charge 20% for tabs. She explained that it is "industry standard" added gratuity. THERE WAS NO SIGN. We have never encountered this industry standard ourselves, but will definitely check our open tabs in the future. We received a buzzer for our food order even though there were no other customers yet in the brewery. About 8 minutes later the food was ready and the buzzer went off. We couldn't help but wonder if the cook had taken the time to bring out our food, even though we had a buzzer, if we would have thought better of our experience. Or what if the bartender made small talk with us instead of looking at his laptop the whole time? Customer service and hospitality has an "industry standard" and boy did Geartooth Alewerks miss the mark!! We ordered the chicken thighs, coleslaw and kettle chips. All was good. Chicken was juicy and tender. There was no skin which was fine, but the drizzle of green sauce I did not like very much. It had a nutmeg or clove spice that was off putting for me and I would have asked to not have it if I could do-over. The coleslaw was not the creamy type and tasted great. My favorite was the kettle chips. I asked the cook if they made them there and he said the were the pink Hymalayan Kettle chips with Geartooth's own seasoning added on. The hightop seating was comfortable, but the blinds do not open higher than chest level so you can't look outside. That was a bummer. All that said, because of the lack of hospitality, we will not return. There are so many other brewerys around so we might as well check them out instead in the hope of feeling more welcomed. read more

They've been open for about a year and they definitely must be visited to keep them going for many years to come! We got the extra large bbq plate with trisket, baby back ribs and chopped pork and sides of green apple slaw and borracho beans which was perfectly sized for us to share! We got the hot vinegar, mustard, mild and medium sauces and they were all lip smacking goodness! We didn't have enough of the goodness and just had to try the pork belly bites which was oh so good we're uber glad we ordered it too! Dad took all of the smoked meats fresh off the smoker and were perfectly done! Mom's sides and award winning sauces were perfectly matched to all the meats we tried! You can taste the passion they all pour their delicious beer and southern style barbecue! Momma was so touched to hear that someone appreciated the heart and soul she pours into the dishes she remembers from her Florida days. The brewmasters whip up some truly delicious brews that we can't figure out what we liked most. They had a little something for all kinds of tastes and preferences. Crowlers are available for just about everything so you can take some home for later. It is such a wonderful treat to see a small town family run business providing excellent and friendly service in a nicely decorated and clean venue! They were all so helpful with our questions and ordering needs! Momma even brought the dishes out to us so we didn't need to grab it from the counter after our buzzer went off. oh my goodness, geartooth alewerks is such a gem that more people need to know about. first off, the inside is covered in rad posters of music festivals, concerts, and more for some of the best bands on the planet. the food is absolutely epic. i tried the trisket (tri-tip cooked like a brisket) and it was some of the best tri-tip i've ever had. plus such a fun way to eat it like a brisket! the pickles and pickled onions that come with are equally as divine! their house made bbq sauce is phenomenal and even tried their potato chips which are dusted in bbq seasoning. plenty of parking and some outdoor seating! we didn't get to try the beer because they were experiencing some slight issues with the taps. but looking forward to being back for great food and service from the geartooth alewerks crew! read more

Good beer and great food! We walked in at opening time on a Thursday and were promptly greeted by James. He took our beer and food order. "Kit" (the family matriarch) was in the kitchen. She would eventually walk by our table, greet us, and give a brief history of this family run establishment. The chicken thighs were juicy. The homemade coleslaw and potato salad (non-mayo based) were delicious. As for the beer, their Saison is one of the better ones in the region. So much so, I took a couple of crowlers to go. Both were horrible. The beans tasted like straight tomato sauce with zero seasoning and the Mac and cheese just tasted bland. Paid $50 for one beer, a TINY portion of sides (legit the size of a taco bell nacho cheese sauce container) and half a pound of dry tri tip. Would not recommend. read more

But my biggest complaint is watching the cook prepare my food while also being on his cell phone. Gross!!! I have been wanting to try this new place in Placerville for a while. I'm so glad we went today. Beer and BBQ doesnt get much better than that. Everything is made in-house by this family run business . The sons brew, and the parents smoke the meat and make the sides. We talked with owner Kit, who is one of the chef/owners. They know BBQ. The menu is small in order to keep everything fresh. I had the pork bites with the aju sauce, which was amazing. Mt lunch companion wanted the brisket, but they were still smoking it after a large lunch order. They told us the only brisket they had was for the nachos. When our order arrived, they included a taste of the brisket along with the pork. All of the sides were amazing. Coleslaw, drunken beans, macaroni salad. Delicious! Big servings at an excellent price. Multiple hand crafted beer to choose from. All made in house. The ambiance is nice. Very cozy. Beautiful countertops and a very palatable color scheme. Geartooth Alewerks is an absolute must if you are looking for a local place that offers GREAT beer, AMAZING food and real Hometown Hospitality!! This spot has become our go-to, whether looking for a cold beer or a full meal (it's usually both). As a matter of fact, we are so impressed by their food, that we recently asked Kit and crew if they would cater a family event - and we are so thankful they did. We had 20 guests and I kid you not, every single person commented (multiple times) on how tender and delicious the ribs and trisket were. The sides were potato salad and coleslaw - which were also huge crowd pleasers. The rave reviews continued the next day when we brought out the leftovers. We also love their sandwiches - and the mac and cheese is the best you can find. They offer a great selection of award winning beers and the various activities they host during the week make for a fun outing with friends and family. We have enjoyed this Brewery since it opened. We do not eat out a lot, but I would say 40% of the time we frequent Geartooth. The beer is incredible, and it is easy to see why they have won so many rewards. The food is unbelievable. I dare anyone to find a more tender and flavorful BBQ meat in the area. The meat on the ribs falls off its so tender and the BBQ Trisket is to die for. Phenomenal flavor in all their offerings! About 6 weeks ago we started looking around for a caterer for our family reunion. We had a hard time choosing because of dietary restrictions in the family and taste preferences. It seemed like BBQ and simple fixings would work best so the first place that came to mind was Geartooth. We asked if they would be willing to make enough food for 20 people and allow us to choose two meats and two sides. They had never done catering before, so they asked us to let them think it over for a few days. Thankfully, they agreed. We knew we could count on them serving our family some of the finest BBQ they would taste and sure enough, to the very last person the response was incredible. Last weekend we picked up the quantity that we ordered and were pleased to find that they threw in more than we had expected. We love all their food but the Ribs and Trisket made the most sense. We also ordered the potato salad and coleslaw. It was all top notch. I have been cooking for 50+ years and most people consider my potato salad as one of the best they have tasted, so I am a little snobby about my potato salad. Kits recipe is much different than mine but just as delicious and enjoyable (which is not something I would normally admit to ). The quantity was large enough to have an early dinner Saturday and lunch on Sunday. The praise on Sunday for the meal was just as high as it was on Saturday. The whole Geartooth family is amazing, and we will always be grateful to them for making the hosting of our family event an easier and more enjoyable experience. First off the beer is really good here. However....the food is way over priced. We ordered a large order of tri-tip about 6 - 8 oz and it was $27. This DID NOT include any sides. Ouch......One of the 2 brothers who own this place (blondish white hair) took our order. He was not friendly and seemed to not want to be there. The women putting the food together, the Mom who is also an owner was very friendly and engaging which made up for the unfriendly son.
