Having just wrapped up some business in the area, I had a hankering for some Mexican food. I noticed this place had great ratings, so I decided it's worth checking out. It's an unassuming place and it's completely empty, when I arrived and met my hubby there, even though it was during peak dinner time. With the torrential rain outside I figured it was the weather that was keeping people away. After we perused the menu and ordered, I went to wash my hands. I only mention this because the soap dispenser in the restroom was filled with water down soap. This made me wonder if they're cutting corners in other areas, as well. I try not to let that first impression influence me and so I went back to our table. Unlike almost every other Mexican eatery, we've visited, there is no offerings of complementary chips, salsa, or water. When the counter worker brought us our order, they mentioned bottled water was available in the fridge for $2. Since cold beverages triggered my migraines, I asked for a room temperature water instead, but unfortunately, that wasn't available. Now onto the food. Here's what we ordered: - Chicken Empanada: 2/5 stars Freshly fried and nicely stuffed empanada. It was filled only with chicken breast, and no sauce provided on the side. Unfortunately the chicken was overcooked. It really needed a sauce to for more flavoring and to aid in the dryness. - Burrito de Al Pastor: 3.5/5 stars Massive!! Easily big enough for two people to share, so we did. The addition of pineapple was such a great touch and really helped brighten up the flavors. The cuts of pork itself was a hit or miss. Some pieces were wonderfully moist while other bits were quite dry. I would've liked more consistency, but I didn't mind a generous amount of rice used as filler. It came with a salsa Verde and a creamy, spicy, red sauce. We ended up using the entire container of Verde on the empanada and saved the spicy, red sauce for the burrito. The server who greeted us was very friendly, and overall the dining experience was pleasant. The ambience is modest, with some colorful pieces of wall decor. They also have weekly specials. This week featured Birria tacos and Birria quesadillas. We opt for the Burrito de Al Pastor because we didn't want an overly meat heavy meal. One thing we found strange was how quiet the restaurant was. Throughout our meal, we expected the phone to be ringing with a few takeout orders, especially with the storm outside. It didn't ring once. The kitchen was very quiet, other than when they were preparing our order. Maybe we caught them on an off night? The friendly service and the burrito were the positives, however, the empanada was disappointing, as well as the pork in the burrito being it was inconsistent. read more

Such a fantastic local small business. Authentic flavors. Friendly and fast service. A good amount of tables. Love the pictures of the food on the tables. Cooler with various soft drinks available. Very colorful interior. The pico and chips were super fresh. The salsa verde has a nice kick. The knock out star of the show was the chicken fajitas served on a sizzling cast iron pan. Loveeee the cast iron because if you want your food extra toasty you can press them down and have them sear. The chicken is super flavorful and moist. The homemade flour tortillas are incredible and hefty enough to hold up. The rice and beans were good. Came with an avocado instead of guacamole but that's fine. We ordered the chicken Fajita, Empanadas, and Birria Tacos. The fajitas came out sizzling hot, fresh, delicious, and on point, with fresh tortillas in a fabric pouch. The Empanada was crunchy, and the birria tacos were so flavorful. We were the only ones dining in on a Tuesday evening, and the service was fantastic. Relative to the area, Casa Mexicana is one of the few places in the area that serves some authentic Mexican takeout. I ordered the Enchiladas Verdes with vegetables. The service was quick - about 10 minutes to pickup. The portion size was huge, but not terribly heavy which is a good thing. I think one of the reasons is that there isn't any beans or rice, which helps. There are 4 enchiladas which is dope. The verde sauce had a kick to it. We jus tried this place cause they moved down by North Brunswick and it's across the street from me so I needed some dinner and who doesn't love some tacos !!!! Husband had the birria tacos twice so far and I had the chicken tostadas which were so good n fresh and some guacamole and they did not disappoint.. second time I tried the chicken flautas which were also delicious!!!! Menudo, Pancita whatever you want to call it. They do a good job here with it. I've had menudo all over the US and this one is good. 7 out of 10 stars. As a Mexican.... Absolutely amazed. I usually avoid eating at Mexican places because nothing really compares to home made but this location really took me by surprised. I got the steak fajitas and wowwwww! I ate every single piece. The sour cream I had low hopes for but nope, it was creamy and delicious. I ordered two eggs on the sides cause I was in the mood and they really tasted like I made them myself for breakfast. Their salsa also sooooo delicious. Especially the red one cause that's my favorite. They gave us all the tortillas we wanted so super happy about that. So torn here. Huevos rancheros was AWESOME. Huge and spicy... loved it. The breakfast burrito was the complete opposite- small and flavorless. Such a shame. 4 for the huevos rancheros, 2 for the burrito averages to a 3. I'd stick to more authentic dishes for best results here. read more

This restaurant is actually closed. There is a sign on the door indicating they have moved to North Brunswick. I went to the address listed on the sign but there was no restaurant there. Very sad... The food here was amazing and since I live so close to the location in Franklin, I ordered from there quite a bit. Fresh and has that homemade feeling. Pricing reminds me of taquerias when I lived in San Francisco, great deal for some good food no fancy frills.
