Pros: big portions, great food, reasonable prices I've only gotten take out here, but I absolutely love the enchiladas. The prices are so reasonable. 14 dollars for a huge plate of enchiladas with a generous portion of avocados and pickled onions on top. We got the enchiladas con mole and enchiladas con salsa verde. I'm not usually a huge mole fan, but it's absolutely delicious. And the salsa verde was nice and spicy. Will definitely order again! read more

Driving through the NJ turnpike and took a detour to try this place. So happy that we had! The taquitos were perfectly crisp, the Texican burrito's flavors were spot on, and our server was very attentive. The side salads and vegetables were fresh and the French fries (odd the be a side with a burrito, but we went with it) were perfectly prepared without the grease or sogginess. Jalapeno and Cilantro Grill is a small restaurant that delivers great food for a good price. The restaurant offers Tex Mex inspired breakfast, brunch, and lunch. I had the steak asado taco which was okay but I thought the steak could have been seasoned more. The salsa that comes with it was good and it added heat to the taco. The breakfast burrito was good and I would eat it again. Eggs, chorizo, avocado, pico de gallo, and cheese (I had it without cheese) wrapped in a tortilla was devine. The breakfast potatoes can be taken to the next level with some salt and pepper. I will be visiting again because the food is good and the price is right! read more

Small restaurant, but there is a good amount of seating and the waitstaff is nice. The food is a bit hit or miss, but the hits were really great. The chips in the guac and chips were really perfectly crisp, and the corn tortillas were INCREDIBLE. Slightly sweet and very delicious. The al pastor tacos and chicken fajitas were also hits, really flavorful and tasty. The molcajete (sharable) enchiladas and mole quesadilla were more of a miss, as the meat went a bit too far on the overcooked/hard scale, though the flavor was good. On a whim I decided to have family dinner here yesterday and boy was I happy about that decision. This place is amazing! When I pulled up, I was surprised it was right next door to Milltown ice cream factory (which we also love). Apparently it had been open for a few months already but I guess we just didn't notice. It shares the same parking lot. The food was outstanding. I was a little skeptical about how authentic or good the Mexican food would be when I saw the breakfast all day menu. Well the food was A+. The mixed fajita had delicious shrimp, chicken and beef, tasty sweet green and red peppers. It came out in a sizzling plate accompanied by a small side of sour cream, guacamole and chipotle sauce and some tasty tortilla bread. We ordered a side of pico de gallo to enhance things even more. My favorite place in NJ for fajitas was Mis Amigos in Dunellen and after relocating we haven't found a place as good... Until now. The fajita portion size was awesome and the price was incredible - $14. Flavor was delicious but different from Mis Amigos. I didn't taste as much cumin and it was less saucy at Jalapeno grill. Ingredients were super fresh though and they really shined. Beef was tasty but some pieces slightly chewy. Chicken was super tender though. We also had the asada quesadilla and that was also great! Fresh mango salsa enhanced the delicious beefy cheesy flavor. It came with some great french fries too. Beef tacos were pretty good too though the other 2 dishes are a hard act to follow. It came with amazing salsa sauce. The final price was incredible. $44 including tax and tip to feed the 3 of us with leftovers to spare. This place is one of my new favorite restaurants. Milltown is really a hub of good eats in the east Brunswick area. read more

This was my first time checking this place out. I work around the area so it was near by, I was able to dine in and get back to work in 45 minutes. I ordered the taquitos which came with 4 taquitos and salsa verde. The salad around it is a nice added touch. I will say the chicken was a bit dry when I bit into it but the salsa helped. The staff is so nice and will make sure you have everything you need. It was around 1pm on a Tuesday so it was calm. Will definitely check another dish out soon. read more

Just opened! This new Tex-Mex fusion restaurant occupies the spot used to be Bites & Bowls, right next to the Milltown Ice Cream Depot on the main street cutting through Milltown. Unfortunately we passed by this right after lunch, so we didn't get to enjoy the main menu, but we still want to try something! What's left to do? So we pick each one of the tacos available on the menu and brought home this sampler at about $3 each. Not a bad decision at all.... Each of the tacos are not only fresh but overloaded with flavorful and fresh meat -- land-based and sea-based alike -- with huge chunks of avocadoes and sweet pineapple accentuating each yummy bite. The dishes are reasonably priced and the quality and quantity of the food is amazing. On a Saturday around 1pm, the place is bustling with no empty table in sight. Service comes with a smile. All the dishes delivered to the tables while we're waiting look so enticing and have noticeably fulfilling portions. Interior is modestly contemporary, clean and timely (St. Patrick's Day decor everywhere in preparation for next week). Large parking lot in the back adjacent to a small park with benches and walkway by the Mill Pond. Not sure if there's a menu online yet, and given they just opened, they're still self-printed (photos included). We will come again to try other dishes for sure. read more

It is a bit of a small place, but it was decorated nicely for the fall. The ambience is very nice and I enjoyed it. I got a chicken quesadilla and my friend got the tacos. He recommended this place to me and the tacos tasted amazing! The quesadilla was good and had guacamole and sour cream. For the quesadilla, it was pretty good. When I order a veggie omelette I expect the usual diced veggies wrapped in egg, but here I had a meal with enormous portobello mushrooms, green peppers, etc. Really special. The potatoes were nicely prepared and the toast was crispy just the way I like it. Did I mention the little side salad with wonderful dressing? Service with a smile! My boyfriend and I just tried this place today and I got an order of chicken tostadas (it came with 3) and the price was only $9 and the portions were huge! You get 3 big tostadas all for $9. My boyfriend got 3 al pastor tacos and he says they were amazing. I believe that it was around $9 for the 3 tacos which is a good deal. We got chips and guacamole also and the positions were again, huge! Definitely will be coming back here. read more

Love that they have breakfast all day. Enchiladas are delicious. Spicy in a good way. The red (mole) version is rich and smoky. The Hola Combo is an abundant plate with tons of veggies to offset your guilt over the salami and chorizo! I get it with poached eggs--perfecto! The Super burrito is a favorite too. The guacamole is delicious. Everything is super fresh and they pay attention to detail. The prices are super reasonable. I only wish they were open for dinner more than just on the weekend. What a great find in Milltown! This place is hands down fantastic!!!! The chicken and veggie quesadillas were delicious and we asked for well done French fries which were possibly the best I've ever had! So glad to have come across this place!! I have been here twice so far and gotten take out once. The staff are super friendly and greet everyone as you walk in, but the aromas of the food greet you as you walk up to the building. They have a breakfast menu in addition to the lunch/dinner menu and I have happily eaten from both. The portions are generous and for what you get, the prices are amazing. Everything I have had so far tasted amazing, and the food is very fresh. The amount of avocado on every order was fantastic and there is not an upcharge for it. The only complaint I can muster up is that the location is a little small, and since the food is so good, there may be a little wait if you come at a busy time. But that is really the only thing, and the food is definitely worth the wait. I can say that for takeout, the food traveled well and was still a great temperature when I got home. Will be back a bunch of times, and will try to remember to take photos next time! read more

La Maya did not disappoint! The ambience is dimly lit, and perfect for a romantic dinner. On the cocktails side, I tried "Señor Sal" - a dirty martini / Vesper riff featuring their proprietary gin and vodka, dry vermouth, pickled jalapeño, olive brine, and lemon infused olive oil. It was a visually attractive, delicious, and sturdy cocktail. Just what the doctor ordered! Later I tried the house margarita. It was balanced and refreshing. There are options to add flavorings to the house margarita spec for +$2 (e.g., Matcha Coconut, Spicy, Guava Mint, Caramelized Pineapple). My dinner companion tried the caramelized pineapple and loved it. On the culinary side, the guacamole was fresh and flavorful. For an entree, I selected the Carne Nortena - a tequila-marinated ribeye with sauteed scallions, shisito peppers. The steak was cooked perfectly to temperature (medium-rare) and amazingly juicy. The roasted sweet potato wedges (Camote) were also outstanding. Don't forget dessert - the coconut flan was to die for! Service - I believe our server's name was Alex, was on-point. He was knowledgeable about both the food and beverages, and did not rush us. Thank you La Maya for a great evening. I will definitely return.

I ordered the Bartender special where he picks the drinks just asking what our preferences and he spot on hit it on the nose, beautiful location for any party getting together date night it's wonderfully decorated and what's not to love with Frida on the walls. Cannot say enough about this beautifully presented Mexican cuisine thank you. The night was wonderful. The company made it better but the food surely took it to a new level.

Overall, this is a very cohesive burrito with all the components working very well together. I like their take-out system. It's very fast and efficient, and I was greeted by the owner, who is very friendly and full of personality. I highly recommend this place!

We started with horchata to drink, which arrived in mason jars with a dusting of cinnamon. The menu is very seafood heavy, so if you're not into fish or seafood, your options are limited. With that being said, the menu leans authentic Mexican. Every table receives fresh homemade nachos with a black bean topping and two salsas- one mild and one spicy. We decided to do the appetizer sampler so we could try a little of a variety of things. It came with an empanada, elote, nachos, guacamole, and queso fundido. The presentation was awesome, as it arrived on a wooden board. The empanada was cut into 4 pieces and was filled with chicken tinga and cheese. I absolutely loved it, while my friend hated it, which was crazy to me. It was so flavorful and had almost a carnitas flavor to it. The guac was fresh, the nachos were crispy and packed with toppings, elote was flavorful and fresh, and queso fundido was super filling. We almost filled up on the apps, but our birria tacos came out and they were fantastic. Our server poured the hot consommé over onions in a little bowl and the flavor was rich and paired with the birria so well. The corn tortillas were crispy and even though we could only eat one of the three, we took the rest home. We also split a side of Mexican rice and beans, which were average and pretty much what you'd expect. We aren't sure if there is dessert, as there was none on the menu, but we were too full even if we were offered options. Our server was attentive even though it was very busy. All in all, I would give it a 4 and my dining companion would give it a 3 so 3.5 would be perfect. However I went up to a 4 because I enjoyed what I ordered and think it deserves that half of a star.
