Mezcal was such a fun experience from the moment we walked in. The entrance alone sets the tone- sexy, beautiful, warm, and inviting. Our waiter, Keelyn, knew the menu, he was upbeat, attentive, and added great energy to the night. The table for two was a little small, so ordering multiple dishes felt tight, but the food made up for it! My first time having caviar. It was excellent- I didn't have any comparison but now this set the bar. The drinks were amazing throughout the night and we also ordered the octopus which was perfectly grilled with great texture; a few pieces leaned salty, but overall deliciousss. We ordered the porterhouse medium. I stayed mostly with the pink center pieces since my husband prefers well done. One piece was a bit chewy for me but I grabbed from a few other places- all fantastic! My husband's cuts "melted in his mouth" and the filet side truly was buttery and tender. As I'm writing my salivary glands just activated lol: The potatoes were hot, crispy, rich, and decadent. I even made a nice potato, steak and eggs the next morning from the left-overs . But wait... can't drop this mic without talking about the flan... hands down the BEST flan I've ever had (and I have a Dominican aunt), so that says a lot. Here's really what I loved... We were celebrating our anniversary and received a beautifully handwritten scroll at the table, which was such a thoughtful touch. It's details like that that separate this group from many restaurants in the area. The hospitality feels elevated... very much new-age fine dining where the experience matters just as much as the food. Made reservations for my wifes bday. I called in advance to make sure they had a kids menu. I wish I asked what exactly was on their kids menu. Their decor and presentation was absolutely amazing. A birthday card for the wife was sitting at our table when we were sat down and her martini had Happy Birthday written in foam. It was awesome. Unfortunately, decor and presentation was the highlight of our dinner. Our waiter was nice to say the most. We sat near the kitchen entrance so all the waiters, waitresses and staff were extremely kind and polite where as we did not get that vibe from our waitress. Let me start off by saying, this place had the best steak I have ever had in my entire life. We decided to try this place out as we are new to the area and wanted to go somewhere local for my birthday. Everything about this place was great and amazing, the lightning was perfect, good music, great environment, and amazing food. The restaurant felt very welcoming. Popped into Mezcal for surprise bday dinner and the staff were so accommodating to our shenanigans. They made this review a 4 stars. We went crazy and ordered family style. We ordered Queso Fundido, Braised Citrus Pork Tacos, Short Rib Tacos, Achiote Fish tacos, Filet Mignon, Halibut, and Lobster Paella Risotto!! Everything was pretty good. My favorites were definitely the queso fundido and the halibut. All the flavors on the halibut dish paired soooo well together. I didn't care for the Risotto or most of the tacos though. Most of the group thought the food wasn't that great for the price and flavors. It was a really expensive dinner but overall felt worth it for the occasion. The vibe inside was fun too. Mezcal is a vibe, as the kids would say. It's buzzing and bustling, and for a minute, I wasn't sure whether I was at Old Bridge, NJ, or a happening Midtown spot. We went in around 8 p.m. without reservations, and the earliest table was available at 9:30 p.m. The bar (it is huge) was full, but we snagged two seats within half an hour. They had Happy Hour on when we went (8-10 on Mondays), which explained the crowd, although it looked like this place was as always busy. We ordered some drinks and bites off the HH menu - the drinks we tried (Margarita and Pistachio Martini were good, albeit a tad too sweet). Their complimentary chips (fried in beef tallow) were a nice touch. The fish (halibut) tacos were great, and esquites were okay, a bit too much dressing for my liking. We only ordered the skirt steak and whipped potatoes for the main course - and this was what really disappointed. The steak (medium rare) was really chewy, and the two of us didn't finish it. I'm not sure we let it sit out too long, but a steak house not getting pricey steak right isn't a good look. We went way past closing time, and our bartender took forever to give us our check, and never came back for it. Another bartender took care of it much later, after many attempts of trying to flag someone down. I understand the long hours and the various tasks that need attending at closing time, but leaving customers unattended for this long felt very frustrating. Where do I start! We came here to celebrate a friend's birthday. There is parking available behind the restaurant. You walk into this beautiful hallway that leads to the bar. This place is beautiful the aesthetics is outstanding. We were a party of six and our server was amazing explained everything from the drinks to the food items. We started off with a cosmo each and ordered 2 appetizers the guac and the octopus, both were very good. For the main we got the porterhouse and the lobster paella risotto with 4 different sides to share. Had another round of drinks and some green tea shots. They brought a cake and sang happy birthday. Smooth, smoky, and dangerously sippable. Dessert? Don't even think twice; get the double churros topped with three scoops of gelato and a cloud of whipped cream. The papas were perfectly crispy and we both enjoyed the Caesar salad because it was a large portion. Not fresh made and still piping hot like at our favorite Mexican restaurants. The next was the fuego sol mocktail. Very sour yet tasty. It was a winner. We shared it. They were thoughtful enough to give 2 straws. Next, skirt steak tacos. They were pretty good. Accompanied with red onions and avocado and tasty steak. Whether it was worth the $25 price tag for 2 tacos is up to the diner. I didn't think so. We then had the octopus appetizer. Also not great. The tentacle was slightly small and a little bit burned. The accompanying potatos were excellent however. Not worth $33. Next was our main, the porterhouse for 2. We ordered it medium rare but it unfortunately came out medium to medium well. It was good quality meat though. It was unfortunate that most of the filet mignon was well done. We ordered the steak with the delicious chimmichurri sauce and a side of butter whipped potatoes. That potato side was my favorite part of the meal. The portion was big and it was delicious. It was a good value at 13 bucks. The dessert was a ginormous dish of gelato stuffed churros for 2. I've been eagerly awaiting the opening of Mezcal after learning about it at sister property 618 in Freehold. 618 has a modern design aesthetic and a super-creative cocktail program. Getting a reservation at Mezcal was challenging, but a spot was eventually secured for 9 PM on Monday night. Lucky us, Monday nights feature a DJ spinning Latin house music! Walking into Mezcal, it's a definite "Wow Factor" moment with the dimly-lit ambience, simulated flames on the bar top, and scent of fresh citrus and burning herbs. I tried several cocktails. All were delicious, well-balanced, and creatively presented. The bartenders definitely enjoy using their smoking guns! Photo opportunities at Mezcal abound, and they even have a smoked tequila cocktail named "For the Gram." For those who enjoy spirit-forward cocktails, I recommend the "Spice is Nice" tequila old-fashioned using additive-free Tequila Ocho Reposado and garnished with a chili pepper. For imbibers who lean towards lighter Tiki-style cocktails, I suggest the "Soon to Be Famous" served in a foreboding demon Tiki mug. The food service was friendly and efficient without being overbearing. I ordered the pork chop, and my partner ordered a vegan Mole entree. Both were excellent! A big shout-out to the hostesses - who were super-professional and friendly. Bartenders Karl and Olivia were amazing professionals who went above and beyond. I ended up purchasing a limited-edition bottle of Makers Mark created just for Mezcal called "Death of Hospitality." There are other deluxe options for spirt connoisseurs to explore. The pricing was very fair for the quality of services received. In summary, Mezcal was an EXPERIENCE. Mezcal is in my opinion the top craft cocktail spot in New Jersey at the moment. They had a large menu, specials and a beautiful cocktail menu. I started off with a Pisco cocktail with cucumber, mint, ginger and lemon the cocktail was beautiful pleasing as well as tasty. I really enjoyed this. We settled on a special. short rib taco (2) , these were amazing, super tasty. I wish more came in and order. they were really small . gauc with chips fried in beef tallow with three salsas this was good they had pepita seeds for some crunch on top. Basic nothing real special to this app. for entrees I got salmon with rice and asparagus with a drizzle of mango sauce. There was nothing out standing about this dish. It was good very basic. halibut tomatillos sauce rice , sweet potato puree and corn although we wanted this dish I was perplexed in why there was so much carbs in this dish and no veggies! There was not enough tomatillo sauce so it was some what dry. And like I said it was heavy with rice corn and potatoes. Not an even of a balanced dish! Our entrees came out warm not hot. This was extremely disappointing for the price tag For dessert filled churros with ice cream. this dish was interactive. The dish was extremely messy! Cinnamon went everywhere. Not worth the expense! Although tasty not worth the hype.. This restaurant is beautifully done but it's super expensive. The ambience and vibe is great for a date or special occasion but here's a few things this restaurant should work on: The restaurant is FREEZING!! First time trying here last night! We had a reservation for 7pm. We had to wait about 15 minutes or so to be seated. Wasn't too bad. Our booth table was roomy, cozy and gave a nice view of the dining room, right next to the chain artwork at the entrance. Mary Ann seated us and took our photo at the end, she is so sweet! Our server was kind, courteous and didn't mind coming back when we needed more time. The food runner David treated us to a dessert as my boyfriend knew him! The general manager, Eddie, was super nice and came by a few times to make sure we were doing ok. He even brought me some homemade hot sauce and chili oil which was great on the rice with the halibut! The "Spice is Nice" cocktail, which is like a tequila old fashion, was delicious. As well as the Chardonnay. Lobster all was delectable just small. Steak tacos also small but flavorful. Would like to try the Octopus next time (our waiter let us know it's a Chef fav and he has an octopus tattoo. :)) Halibut was tasty I would just prefer a bit more sauce. My boyfriend inhaled his steak. Highly recommend the coconut sorbet. The staff is plentiful and everyone walks around helping each other. Def a well oiled machine and amazing to see as the restaurant just opened! The ambience is elegant, relaxing and peaceful. However there is a buzz and liveliness in the room with the customers chatting, background music, and lighting dispersed around - from the gorgeous chandeliers to the table lights, to the super cool fire lighting around the bar. First off, outside decor is absolutely stunning. No pics do it justice. Inside is just as beautiful. Appetizers we had the octopus and papas. For Main dish we had tomahawk for 2 with french fries and mac and cheese. Dessert was fried ice cream. Food was good but I wish it was seasoned. It was bordered on the side of bland. Steak was delicious and cooked to perfection. Fried ice cream was delicious. Staff were absolutely amazing from start to finish. I may return again just because the service was just so incredible. Price is expensive -- this is not a casual night out. For this meal with no alcohol including tip was over $400. I would say definitely worth the try. Reservations highly recommended. read more

This was our first visit to Mezcal and it will not be the last! Definitely a place for special occasions (we had 2 birthdays and an anniversary to celebrate). The decor is over the top - from the bar to the dining area. Small point, but I like the fact that they have real candles arrayed around the restaurant. We had a reservation (recommended) and waited a short time for our table to be prepared. The staff are well trained and our server, Danielle, was terrific! Appetizers - the Spanish Octopus was the best we have had in a long time (maybe a little more char) and the Tuna Tartar, also very good. This was enough for us to whet our appetites. Small point, but the chips served at first are tasty, but too hard. Entrees - Skirt steak, Spice Rubbed Pork Chops and Corn flake Crusted Halibut. Portions were large, as we all brought something home, and served piping hot. Dessert - we shared Dulce de Leche Stuffed Churros as well as a complimentary Caramel Flan (thank you!). The noise level was very high when we began our meal but leveled out after a short time. The energy level is high and we thoroughly enjoyed our meals.
