Fresh chips, friendly and efficient waitress, house salsa spicy enough, big portions for the price. The flour tortilla shell the Verde burrito came in wasn't cooked and was doughy so I didn't eat it. I tore it open for the pork. Pork was tender but the Verde sauce was bland with no flavor. Rice was good but beans had an odd taste and had the consistency of paste. I was asking someone I work with her recommendations for Mexican food because she doesn't cook much but she loves Mexican food and his Mexican in heritage. She recommended this restaurant is one of her top choices. The reason being that serves mole and also Chilaquiles, which not many places do anymore. When I heard that, I knew I had to give Kazak Quintero a try. So I hunted it down one day. It's actually very conveniently located off of the freeway, highway 41 on Ashlan and First. When I drove into the parking lot I realized I'd probably passed it about 1000 times but I just thought it was kind of a dumpy hole in the wall. Do not let looks deceive you! I went in and it's kind of an old-fashioned Mexican restaurant. The service is fantastic. They seated me immediately. My friend was already there and the chips and salsa were so great that she had gobbled down most of the bowl already, about 3/4 I would say. Piglet! They serve two different kinds of salsa, one mild like a pico de gallo, and the other quite spicy, which was great and will take your head off. Enjoy spicy aficionados! They took our order and the food came quickly. I of course, had to have enchiladas de Mole. I think my friend had a burrito, but I don't recall clearly because I am writing this review a couple of weeks past the time when we dined there for lunch. This is the best mole in town. Another restaurant where I had been getting mole recently closed and so now Casa, Quintero is my top choice for mole enchiladas. The sauce was rich, dark, and super flavorful. The chicken filling was moist and tender. Very good value for the price. The rice and beans on the side were very good and they do an additional little vegetable salad, which has a special name which is escaping me at the moment. I had a Mexican Coca-Cola, which they have available to serve you. I cannot attest to alcohol drinks because my companion does not drink alcohol and it was lunchtime and I had somewhere else to be so I cannot comment on the alcohol situation, but they do have plenty of Beer, including Mexican beer on the menu. You will have to check them out if an alcohol menu is your. They had many many options, all of the regular items like combination plates with tacos, enchiladas tostadas chilirelleno. I can't wait to try the chili relleno when I go back because that's another favorite. They have a number of specialty dishes, look on the website and check the menu. Do not miss this place and do not let the outside appearance and the location deter you. This is absolutely a Mexican restaurant not to be missed. I've been a regular customer at this restaurant for some time, and I previously enjoyed the friendly service provided by Sagrario. Unfortunately, its been sometime since I've visited here and found out Sagrario is no longer working here. The level of service has noticeably changed, impacting my dining experience. I hope the management considers how important staff continuity and customer relationships are, and possibly works on training or retaining staff to maintain the welcoming atmosphere. First time trying it with family that had been coming here for over 2 decades. I had the waiter surprise me with a dish he recommended. He surprised me with a green carne asada enchilada plate served with 2 green enchiladas, stuffed with carne asada, served with rice, beans, and a scoop of sweet corn tamal. It was served on a sizzling comal/Skillet on a wooden platter. It was decently spicy, and flavorful. I've visited this place a few times as my husband likes it, I don't like it at all (I'm mexican). They use the same red sauce (probably comes from a can) for a lot of their dishes, the taco shells are soggy, not crunchy and the flavor is always a hit or miss. The place is old, booths are worn down, feels like you're sitting on metal springs. It's not the worse place, but they need to improve on the quality of their food. read more

Came here for dinner on a Sunday and not too crowded. Got guacamole, caldo de res, fajitas, and a taco. The food was fine but on the pricey side. The soup came in a very large bowl but cost $24. Guac was $11 for a very small bowl and was nothing special. Casual ambiance and service was fine. Soda was $5 and I wasn't offered a refill. Menu prices not the same as what we were charged. My colleagues and I come here very often for lunch. The food is good. But it's getting a low rating for service. We had told the waitress we were splitting tickets. Which we always have. Once she brought over the bill. The waitress states she had to put it all on one ticket and the manager and cook who is also a waitress wouldn't allow her to split the tickets and had to add gratuity since there was 6 of us. Again, never had a problem with this. If this policy had changed we should have been notified at the time of ordering when we told her we were splitting the bill. The waitress made it way more complicated than it needed to be and confusing us on how she was going to charge us. Sadly, we will not be coming back read more

Takeout on 12/31/25: You do the math: They charge a flat fee of $1 for use of credit card (CC). If your bill is low (i.e., getting take out for 1 person), the relative percentage you pay is high. Most restaurants now charge 2.5-3.5% to use a credit card. My bill before tax was $17.99. 3.5% on 17.99 would be $0.63. Instead, I paid $1 which works out to ~5.6%. Bottom line, the lower your bill, the greater percentage you will pay to use a credit card (of course, the converse is true too: the higher your bill, the less you would pay: i.e., on a $100 bill, you would still pay a $1 fee vs $3.50 if at a 3.5% fee for use of CC). Regarding credit cards, a little history (from Google AI): "Businesses accepted credit cards early on for increased sales, broader customer reach, faster transactions, and better cash flow, allowing them to cater to customers wanting convenience and to make bigger purchases; while specific early fees varied and weren't standardized, they were initially a small percentage, absorbed as overhead, with transactions manually processed (phone calls, checking lists) leading to high costs for issuers, gradually becoming a tiny fraction of sales before rising as tech improved and networks grew". Now, as stated above, businesses have begun to pass these fees (avg 2.5-3.5%) onto the consumer, regardless of the fact that accepting of CC brings in more business, business they might have otherwise not had. So, I would have expected to pay 3.5% for the "privilege"/convenience of use of a CC, but not to be over charged. NOW, in addition to the charge to use a CC, businesses typically apply this charge AFTER taxes. In the City of Fresno, the sales tax rate is 8.35%. So, my bill was $17.99. This should have resulted in a $1.50 tax. However, I was charged $1.61 in tax on $17.99 which equates to a 9% tax rate (I asked for a receipt which shows the cost of my meal + the tax charged). I checked to see if the Fresno City tax rate had increased? No, it has not. So, again, my bill was relatively low, and all totaled, the additional money spent with credit card fee of $1, and at a tax rate of 9%, I paid an extra ~43 cents (over what it would have been if had been charged 3.5% for credit card use and at tax rate of 8.35%). Big deal, right? Well, add that amount to the number of customers/day. As if times aren't already hard enough, why not just tack on an extra 0.0065% tax on every bill? Well, for one, (from Google AI): "it's illegal for a restaurant in Fresno County (or anywhere in California) to overcharge for mandatory taxes or hide extra fees". For another, it doesn't translate to good faith. It's taking advantage of the consumer, when really, in today's times with prices what they are, a business should appreciate and support encouraging repeat business, not discouraging it by nickel and "diming" people. As my mother would have said, "that's cutting off your nose to spite your face". As for the food? It was fair, not as good as it used to be. I have been intermittently dining there (typically take-out) for the better part of 29-30 years. It had been my favorite place for chicken tacos. The tortillas are thick and the chicken well-seasoned and juicy. This last time however, the chicken was not as flavorful. I had ordered my tacos "dorados"/crispy, but for some odd reason, the take-out container was then wrapped in cellophane, effectively "steaming" the tacos resulting in a softer shell than should/would have been. Would I return? Well, if I had an "overwhelming" craving for their chicken tacos, perhaps I would. However, now after this review, would I be welcome to return??? read more

Best Mexican restaurant I've dined at hands down! My wife and I make an excuse to go to fashion fair mall coming all the way to Hanford just so we can stop by here and eat because it's that good! The waitress always recognizes us and our son! And she always makes sure we are well taken care of. She's great and small talk and makes you feel like your at home. The food is the best part!
