Cuca's Mexican Restaurant did not disappoint! I ordered the albondigas it was amazing -- fresh and tasted so authentic, like homemade comfort in a bowl. My husband had the huevos rancheros and he seriously hasn't stopped talking about them since So good! The corn tortillas are homemade we had a small cup of menudo and it was delicious full of flavor! We had a late breakfast at this Tower District restaurant and I enjoyed it. I had the "Original huevos ranchero" and was very happy. It's not a traditional huevos ranchero per se, although that is also on the menu, it was a soupy enchilada style sauce over eggs with tortillas on the side. Great taste! My wife had the large shrimp cocktail and thought it needed more avocado. I'd love to go back for lunch or dinner to try some of the rest of the menu. read more

I don't know why I haven't already reviewed this restaurant. We've been here so many times. Usually when we are going to Roger Rocka's, which is across the street, we will have lunch or dinner here before the show. Excellent food and service as many of the reviews here have shared. Everyone is warm and friendly and you feel like you're eating at your nana's house. Except you're sitting in a stiff chair with people you don't know around you. I've had all the favorites from their menu: enchiladas, tacos, chile relleno, chile verde, chile colorado, taquitos, chorizo, abondigas, pozole, and of course, rice and beans. They're all so yummy. I went in to get it. The worker was very kind and the order was ready. She added the hot sauce, I paid for the order and she handed it over with good day wishes. The restaurant is nice. Oh man, I only gave one star because I had to click something. So sad to write this review. I've been here over the years and was incredibly disappointed today to say the least. My husband, 8 year old son & I tried to have a meal there today. It was around 10:30 am. We only ordered water. And it wasn't the long wait that turned us off. It was the waiter and (hopefully not owner) who motivated is to walk out. As we waited about 5 minutes for our water in an empty dining area. The man with facial hair and maybe in his 30's-40's. Idk. Proceeded to tell stories to the kitchen help with every other work as an F bomb. I'm no prude. But it was mother f this. F this. F him F that. Gross. I thought we were there for breakfast but it felt like a bar at the late night hrs. Not appropriate for kids. Read the room dude!!!!! We walked out. Said it wasn't kid friendly , told him we had a child with us. He obviously knew and has no decent manners. What is he the face of this place? Owners beware. No regrets!!! So distasteful and incredibly below any standard for anyone to speak with such filth as a server when any chid is present. Years ago when we would frequent it was family friendly and decent food. We will never be back. We told him why we were leaving and not even an apology. The only couple in there other than us head nodded us as we left because they heard what I said to that man. They lost a customer today, for life. Service took forever, over 1 hour as a solo customer. The food was meh, you could tell it had been under the heat lamps for a long time. The burrito was quite possibly the smallest yet most expensive burrito I've ever encountered. I asked for onions and cilantro, they charged me $2 FOR EACH of the 2 items. Taste of tower . My friend and I went in for taste of tower event , This place supposed to be giving out samples . We waited to be seated and we're ignored until a few few minutes. We sat down at a table and waited several minutes. The waiter (female ) passed us several times and then decided to ask us if we were dining in . We said we'd like a sample for now . I was quite surprised when I first tried Cucas because I've been in Fresno for 30+ years and spent many a nights in tower but somehow this place avoided my food radar. It was only my aunt who recommended it to me so I took my mom for a Mother's Day lunch and we enjoyed the friendly service, authentic Mexican decoration and delicious food. I ordered shredded beef taco and chicken flauta and they were as tasty as I could expect. If I had to make a negative comment I'd say that the refried beans tasted as if they were lacking in flavor but that's no reason not to give this place a shot, my mom liked the beans. The beautiful city of Fresno, CA has many great Mexican restaurants, but only a handful of them are open for breakfast. Not to worry if you happen to be in Fresno's historic Tower District, and you're looking for an amazing and authentic Mexican breakfast, head over to Cuca's Restaurant, located on Olive Ave., just a block from the Tower Theater. The breakfast menu features one of the largest offerings of traditional Mexican breakfasts that I've seen anywhere north of the border, along with a few "Americano" choices. As I scanned the menu, I noticed menudo is served every day - absolutely ADORE menudo - but I wanted something that you don't find everywhere, so I went with "Huevos con chilie verde..." which is also one of my favorites. My only complaint, and it's very minor, is that chips and salsa aren't served until lunch time, as I do love chips and salsa with my breakfast. After I placed my breakfast order, I was able to watch the chef prepare my meal from the semi-open kitchen. The smell of my breakfast cooking was simply tantalizing, especially the smell of the in-house made corn tortillas toasting on the griddle. From the "Breakfast - Desayuno" section of the menu, I chose the "HUEVOS CON... Two eggs, any style with your choice of chilie verde, chilie colorado, steak a la chicana, chicharrones en salsa." All the main entree choices sounded great, but I never can resist chilie verde, so my choice was easy... The main entree of the breakfast, chilie verde, included a generous portion of diced pork, smothered in savory chilie verde sauce. The pork was seasoned, Mexican style, and I assume fried, and was so tender that you didn't need a knife to cut into smaller pieces, and it nearly melted in your mouth. The sauce was flavorful, rich, and medium spicy, which is just right for my taste. According to my server Fernando, the salsa verde is made in-house, and all ingredients are locally sourced. I believe it, as my chilie verde was both fresh and tasty! Most of the breakfasts on the menu include fried potatoes, refried beans, green salsa and your choice of flour or corn tortillas. As per my usual, my choice was corn tortillas. The refried beans were some of the best that I've enjoyed for quite some time, as they SHOUTED with flavor, which comes from cooking with lard, in the style of Mexico. The beans were simply amazing, and tasted like the refried beans that you'd enjoy in any loncheria in Mexico. The potatoes were medium sliced, and fried to a light golden brown on the outside, and were juicy and white inside, just like great fried potatoes should be. My breakfast included a small bowl of in-house made green salsa, which was rich in flavor, and very much on the spicy side, which I dipped my potatoes into for a great taste sensation. I ordered my eggs fried over easy, and they were perfect. The corn tortillas were simply amazing! The dough is made in-house, and my stack of thick tortillas arrived hot, lightly toasted, right off the griddle. There is nothing better than fresh, thick tortillas to get your morning started, and these tortillas were some of the best I've had for a long time. I tore them into pieces, rolled them into a roll, and used them to clean up my plate, and dipped them into my bowl of salsa verde. Perhaps they were the best part of the meal? During my many trips over the years to Mexico, I've enjoyed many breakfasts at restaurants and loncherias, and Cuca's Restaurant serves an amazing breakfast just like you'd be treated to in any northern Mexican city or town. The food is delicious, it's authentic Mexican cuisine, the price is reasonable, and the service is fast and friendly. What's not to LOVE about Cuca's Restaurant? read more

We all had potatoes with our meals and I'm not kidding you, we literally had about 5-6 fried potatoes each. When he brought the food, he said they ran out of potatoes and the cook was making more so he'd bring us more. He never did. Other people starting coming in and he just ignored us after that.
