We ordered a "to go" dinner from here, but the ambience on the Sunday evening we were there looked really nice. Sometime I'd like to eat dinner there. The food was pretty good. I particularly liked the grilled chicken salad, the enchiladas I was told were OK, but the enchilada sauce itself was a little different. And the rice and beans in the combo were pretty good. Everything was packaged really nicely for us, but the containers they use for takeout are fairly flimsy. It would be great if they had cardboard containers that would keep the heat in and not be so flimsy as the plastic ones they're using. The staff were very pleasant and helpful. read more

We visited Casa Tapatia with a large group. Service was a bit slow but server was kind and did eventually ensure we all were taken care of. Booth is cushy which is a nice change from hard surface seating. It does get very noisy inside and can require shouting to carry a conversation. Loved our guava margaritas. Don chepe bacon wrapped shrimp was very flavorful. Steak was skirt steak and had good flavor but a bit chewy. The molcajete was an experience served in a cauldron overflowing with seafood and veggies. Husband loved his fajitas and felt his steak was much more tender. Went here for the first time and didn't end up staying. I was appalled at the prices! $25 for fries?!?!?!! TWENTY FIVE DOLLARS!!!!! Even crazier still was the options for the fries. I am giving this restaurant 5 stars due to the service staff was obviously short handed this evening. The staff had a fast pace or slight jog in their steps as they took care of their guests. Food two thumbs up! I wanted another round of tacos just because of the taste of the Al- Pastor. The wife enjoyed the tortilla soup that's probably some of the best she had. The booth we sat in had decent padding in the cushions of the bench seat. Chips and house salsa a touch on the spicy side so request refried beans if you are a spice wimp like us. A great Mexican joint, not too far from the downtown area. The strawberry margaritas here are could be stronger, but overall OK. Casa Tapatia has an open salsa bar, which generally I'm a sucker of. I ordered the Tacos authenticos, with steak, and it was really good. I love a good steak taco, that is cooked with a nice crunch, and this place delivered. When traveling north from Portland to Seattle dining options are limited. This was a solid old-school American-Mexican Restaurant. The service was good and the chips and salsa were good. The mains were edible but not like what you'd get in Mexico (of course). They had the expected rice made with tomato caldo and super mild refried beans (no epazote etc). My enchiladas verdes with chicken were as good as you get with commercial green sauce and the chicken was tasty. My spouse's chimichanga was heavy and the shredded beef was bland. The margarita was made with a standard mix and served with a lot of ice. It was like a soft drink. The do have Modelo Negra on draft so there is that. I love this place. Dishes are always hot and taste great! Service is usually really well! Owner is very welcoming and makes us feel like family when we come in. There has been a time where we went in and one of the dishes meat was pretty hard (just not tender and a bit hard to eat) so we asked the owner about it because he likes to come over to the tables and ask how everything is, and he was so disappointed that the food was sent out like that and immediately got us a new dish and didn't make us pay for that dish because of the inconvenience. They also have lunch cards and get a free meal every few times you come in. I'd recommend you to try the deep fried cheesecake for dessert, it's SO GOOD! It was thin and had the perfect amount of kick. To start we order an appetizer of queso. The queso was pretty good and had sliced jalapeños topped over it. We ordered the Al Pastor Tacos. They came three to a plate, with a separate side of rice, choice of black or refried beans, and a small salad(probably just for decoration). The rice was mildly bland and you can't screw up canned black beans. The pastor was just ok. I've definitely had a lot better flavored pastor and the pineapple in it were overly canned and didn't ad any flavor whatsoever. The food was not very authentic, but I'd consider it good per Northwest Mexican food standards. On May 9, 2022, my husband and I had an early dinner at La Casa Tapatia. My husband ordered a chicken burrito and I ordered chili relleno. We ordered shrimp ceviche and, also, chicken soup to share. The chicken burrito and the chili relleno were just okay. The soup was terrible. Super salty and I don't know what kind of chicken it was. It seemed to be ground chicken. Strange texture. The ceviche was awful. No citrus freshness. The shrimp seemed to the cooked by heat instead of a citrus marinade. Only one layer of flavor (a red thick sauce) instead of the lovely fresh layers of shrimp, citrus, tomato, peppers, onions, etc. The over-cooked shrimp seemed to be cooked via heat rather than a citrus marinade. Every single food we ordered had the same red sauce flavor. It is as if a big pot of sauce is cooked...then the same sauce goes on everything. They were good enough to listen to us and remove the ceviche from our bill. I showed the manager photos of ceviche...which are all colorful with the white of seafood, red tomatoes, green peppers, onion, etc. Never a solid red color from a thick red Mexican sauce. The owner of La Casa Tapatia needs a new chef who can put freshness and layers of flavor into their food. This same sauce on everything was horrible. Worse Mexican food we've ever had. read more

When we asked a question about margaritas, she didn't hesitate to go get the answer for us quickly and before we ordered. She was really good throughout our dining experience. Drinks arrived promptly, our chips were refilled when our guac arrived. And our food arrived piping hot and was delicious. I had the steak tacos based on another review. Did not disappoint. Husband had Chile Verde, our guest couple had Chile Colorado. All good. Ambiance was fine. Equated with small town, local, comfortable. I've been dining here pretty regularly for the past five years now (including getting takeout during the COVID shutdown)-- the service and food quality have never let me down. Fajitas are a highlight here, but I've had burritos, enchiladas, salads, and various combination plates as well: every meal here has been satisfying and kept me coming back for more! I'm happy to see that in-house dining has returned (with a choice of a bright 'family dining' area, a darker 21+ bar area, and outdoor patio seating in nice weather)-- I did miss the fresh chips, salsa, margaritas and table service over the past year!
