Small, family-run, welcoming, great service-with-a-smile. Classic variety of meats, great sides. (N.B., my spouse opined that these were, by far, the best collard greens he'd tasted. I am not quite as experienced in the genre of collard greens as he is, but they tasted mighty fine to me!) It was a hot day, and the place was deliciously air-conditioned. Overall, it was a really great experience! We were in the area and looking for a good lunch place and this seemed to receive the highest marks overall. We decided to give it a try and were pleased with everything from the meal to the friendliness of staff. They were all so welcoming and it really did feel like family. It is a smaller place with A/C indoor and picnic tables outside for another option. After a day on the lake we opted for the chill ambiance of the picnic tables on a nice summer day. Screw this place. The Vancouver venue closes at 5pm so we made the trek to woodland that closes at 7 pm or "when we run out." Of course I tried calling to make sure they would be open and got a recording. HEY here's a suggestion. When you close early, put a message on the machine saying that! To NOT do that is rude, inconsiderate and just plain LAZY. I heard their bbq was great but I will never know. They need to learn how to plan ahead so they don't run out of food. What a great little gem of a bbq place in Woodland! The guys had a pulled pork sandwich with homemade coleslaw and the gals had the pulled pork plate with homemade potato salad and hush puppies. Portions were huge, prices reasonable and a very personable Daddy D himself came to our table and chatted a bit. Excellent food! And the staff were great. In particular the owner who made us to feel welcomed and that us choosing to eat there really matters to him. And that matters to me. I was surprised to find a southern style BBQ joint on a vacation to the northwest. I have had Bbq all over the country and know what the difference between really great and just ok. I got the two meat plate. Brisket and ribs. And two sides: baked beans and potato salad (both very well done). Also got a side of the home made macaroni and cheese. Everything is made from scratch. No Sysco. It was fantastic! Perfect brisket! Rib meet came of the bone clean but didn't fall off which is the way it should be. The meet was tender and not overdone and to soft like many places. I've been searching for good, authentic bbq for a while. I decided to Try Daddy D's after searching reviews. We first went to the Vancouver Location for which was Closed, so we decided to drive too Woodland. Let me say it was well worth the drive, Daniel was so friendly and attentive, the absolute BEST customer service I have ever experienced. Nobody had to wait for him to take their orders and the food came quick. I ordered Brisket and Pulled Pork, both were the perfect smokiness, and the sauce was very good. The barky bits on the brisket wear Heavenly. My wife got a pulled pork sandwich that was piled so high she had to take half of it out just so she could eat it. I can't wait for summer to take a ride up there and sit outside. We've finally found BBQ we LOVE! great food and exceptional service. We'll be back again and again. Been here twice, first time in 2024, I wanted brisket, they were out when I tried ordering at lunch. Hmmmmm. So I ordered ribs. They were ok, falling off the bone isn't for me, some people like them that way. Second was recent just before the 4th of July, went back for the brisket, thought I would just order it on a sandwich, I was disappointed, it was chopped up really, really, really fine and mixed with bbq sauce formed into a mush patty between a bun. Could not get the flavor profile I was looking for. I was hoping for a couple/three pieces of whole slices of brisket on a sandwich. I should have asked what I was getting. Ultimately my own fault. Owner was hustling and super nice, very inviting. The restaurant itself is super cozy and homely. Good place to sit down and enjoy a meal, a little on the small side. The food though! I've been coming to Daddy D's for years at both locations and I could come everyday of the week. But Friday is the only day that they make their catfish dinner. I've come with a friend for a long time, and he orders the catfish and since I'm at a barbecue place I have a hard time not ordering something smoked. This last week I just had to try the catfish finally. Holy catfish!!! You get a huge piece of fish and the choice of two sides. I picked the hush puppies and the beans. This place has some of the best beans I've ever had. The catfish is perfectly light, beautifully breaded and at all greasy. On other days I cannot give a black mark to anything on the menu. One of my favorite choices is the Shermanator sandwich piled high with brisket and topped with a hot link. The best part of coming to a Daddy D's is you really feel like you are welcome here and that they appreciate your business and if you come back a few times, your friendship. Super dry and wouldn't get again. Baked beans was PACKED with bone bits so eat with caution. Great flavor and loved the chunks of brisket in it but yikes! Mac and cheese was KFC quality level and not much flavor which is a pass for me and I love Mac and cheese. This one isn't it. Would come back just for meat in future. We spent $44 for one meal. They sell out fast. This is the first time we've been successful getting food as they close once they sell out. We'd come back and pass on sides. Wow! Has this place changed since the last time (and first time) we visited nearly 3 years ago? We ordered the sliced brisket plate with bbq sauce on the side. I hate drenched brisket but love to dip. We also ordered the baked beans with coleslaw. The brisket was fabulous and the bbq sauce a little tangy, not too much, just a little. It was really, really good. Glad we remembered to make sure the bbq was on the side. The baked beans were the best (absolute best) we had ever tasted. Mixed into their beans was a little brisket -- amazing. Neither of us ate the coleslaw because it was pretty dry and couldn't taste the dressing in it. However, that won't keep us away. This place is great and we will definitely be visiting a lot more often now that we know how good it really can be. Oh, we also enjoyed the owner and his servers. It's a family operation they work to please you with excellent bbq!! I had their 2 meat, combo pork ribs and brisket I'm trying to stay in a low carbohydrate diet so I had collard greens and coleslaw and I wasn't disappointing. My wife had pulled pork with mac & cheese and coleslaw and she was really happy with what she got to eat. This is our third time going to Daddy D's Southern BBQ so if you're gonna go call ahead cause sometimes at 2 o'clock they're out in the doors might be closed! I'll be back! Play seats maybe 20 people but they have seating outside, but I wouldn't allow this to slow you down from not experiencing excellent barbecue! I'll be back again and again! He does have other locations in Vancouver, but I like this one the best and Fridays is a cat fish fry. It's good bbq, it's not as spicy as I was expecting or hoping for. Most places will offer multiple choices for sauce so you can get the level of heat you like. There is only one sauce offered and it is on the meat when they serve it. They only offer hush puppies at this location and all three of us thought they were particularly tasty. They may only have them on Friday when they are featuring a catfish fry. The hot links were tasty however not particularly hot. The brisket was tasty, a bit too tough to cut with only my fork. The pulled pork sandwich was stacked really high and probably impossible to eat as a sandwich. The wife liked the sandwich and was surprised how much she liked the coleslaw, it didn't have the heavy Mayo taste that most have. She was very taken d with the sweet potato pie. Service was spot on, friendly, outgoing and informative. Tiny place, only four tables, probably best to plan on take out. Baked beans- about average. They put a bit of rib tips on top instead of mixing in with the beans to get the flavor throughout. read more
