I am a 48-year-old local businessman myself. My 24-year-old daughter was in town to visit me. We stopped into this bar as it looked inviting misters going on and it was a hot day. We were greeted by a host who carded us both before seating us. Overall the waitresses were nice and we enjoyed ourselves. Just before we were about to leave my daughter got up to go use the restroom while she was away this young security guard walked up to my table aggressively snatched my beer off of the table and demanded that I showed him ID to make sure I was 21. I explained that we had already been carded before being seated and that it's pretty obvious anybody who would see me that I'm over 21 years old. He only grew in the hostility and vulgar language, so I did pull out my ID and showed it to him in order to de-escalate the situation. Long story short I've never experienced such harassment in my entire life while visiting a restaurant or a bar. I closed out our $60 tab. If you're looking for a relaxing afternoon you would do yourself well to stay as far away from this place as possible. Too many other great bars in the area to choose from! read more

Coming from California, the only thing I knew about this place was their buckets and how fast you can get trashed. So when I was in town I knew I had to pass by. I came by on a Monday night so I can understand why it wasn't packed. It lived up to its hype but it wasn't anything super spectacular. The bucket is any cocktail in a small bucket. It took time to finish it and I was sharing! If I downed it I'm sure that I'd be drunk in an instant. My only thing is that there are no prices for the bucket on the menu. I heard that it was $8 but when we paid it was $16? Dunno if it fluctuates depending on the day but knowing that ahead of time would be nice. read more

Great place, Patrick the bartender was super attentive and explained the food options in such detail you couldn't mess up the order. Mac n Cheese burrito and Carne Asada tacos were great, def brought some home. Not sure about some other reviews about this place, but I had a great time! Please keep it up guys. Very relaxed with great vibes btw. Another great experience, I brought my friends dad, a POW fighter pilot and his service dog. Zero stars should really be an option because this place doesn't deserve this one star. They are deceiving and racists. My boyfriend, his two friends and I were here on Friday night and the server's response to us ordering bucket drinks was very condescending. A different employee brought out our "buckets" and we were quick to notice that they weren't buckets, they were in plastic 10 Oz cups. She brought over our server and she told us "Oh. Those buckets are going to be $30. These are $13." She made it sound like we couldn't afford a $30 drink each. We decided to just drink what was already at the table and that our next round was going to be the buckets. We got 3 Don Julio Reposado mixed with juice and a beer for the first round. When it was time to get another round, my boyfriend was the only one who got the bucket. When we asked for the bill, she brought it over and we checked it before putting our card down. We were charged $75 for the bucket!!!!! AND we were up charged from the Reposado to Don Julio 1942. We NEVER ordered 1942. We specifically ordered Reposado and that's what we got the first time when we got the smaller drinks, so what would make you think that we'd want 1942 for the bucket? When we brought it to the server's attention, she said "Oh. I told you it'd be $30." OOOOOKAY. Then why were we charged $75? I understand paying more for the bucket because there's more alcohol in it, but why the sudden change to 1942? When we asked that, she said that that's what goes into the bucket. That it's "automatically". We asked her where it says that. She says on the menu. We asked her to show us and she couldn't because IT DOESNT SAY THAT ON THE MENU. She looked frustrated with us and then brought over her "manager". This manager approached the table asking us what was going on. We were able to tell her what exactly happened and then she tells us that she needs to get someone "higher". She herself looked like she was barely 21. They leave to get someone who was higher than that manager and together they brought over the Security Manager. The girls had already told him what happened in their words so when he approached us, he didn't even hear us out. He supported his coworkers and said that we needed to pay for it. The server starts to say that she told us that it would be $30 MORE. Let's do the math real quick. 13+30=43. If the bucket would've cost $30 more, it would've been $43 but like I said earlier, we were charged $75..... He asked if we wanted to get the cops involved (cops were already on the corner) and we said yes because we felt that we were being played by everyone who had approached us at this point. When the cops came over, they said "So I hear that you guys aren't going to pay for the bill?" EXCUSE ME???? We NEVERRR said that we weren't going to pay for the bill. The Security Manager told the cops that, we never did. We explained what had happened and then the cops said that we had to pay because we paid for a service. DUHHH. We never said we weren't going to pay. At that point, there was no winning this. Our friend ended up paying for the bill just so they could leave us alone. While this was all happening, at least 6 other employees came and stood around our table like a fucking barricade! If we really didn't want to pay the bill, we could just gotten up and left. It's pretty simple. But we are adults and brought up our issues to them and they made it worst. I'm Asian and the other 3 are Hispanic and I could feel that when we had that crowd around us, the staff were stereotyping us because of our ethnicities. And it didn't help that the server made it sound like we couldn't afford a $30 drink when we first ordered with her. 3 of us are in healthcare and 1 is in the tech industry, all from the Bay Area. We could easily afford it. I've never had an experience like this. And after reading some of the reviews people have said about this place right before writing this one, this place needs to change. First time here. A bit disappointed. Ambiance is okay. Great music. Not the best service. There's no inside or air conditioning and it was 107 today. The misters worked wonders though. It was nice to sit right on Mill Ave. Seeing no one else with food should have been a red flag for me. I ordered food nonetheless. I ordered Carne Assad tacos and a Moscow mule. Initially I had no intention to drink but I waited so damn long to receive a menu and have my order I felt like it didn't make sense not to. From when I got there to when I ordered I kid you not it took nearly 45 minutes. I contemplated leaving a few times but I stayed because the reviews are so decent I just had to try. I had to ask for just meat and cilantro. They normally pre-mix everything in the tacos. I asked for corn tortilla, was served flour. I was too hungry to send it back. The damn carne asada was soooooo oily and salty. Unnecessarily salty actually. Bland rice. Bland beans. It wasn't until after I received my food that I realized that his place is known for its alcohol buckets. Not the food. Eat here at your own risk. I hate how this reflects upon the bar itself but the bartender Izzy has got to be the only bartender that I will never order a drink from in all of Tempe, and there's plenty of bars in Tempe that do not deserve any attention but casa as this is a staple for smoke people. I'm a regular with other friends at this bar and order the same thing every time. Without prior knowledge or confirmation this bartender served us higher end liquors without permission, making every drink and shot $30 more than the well and usual liquors they use in these drinks. Being in the industry I understand trying to upsell but it's absurd to charge this without asking and then when questioned about it receiving the utmost attitude. Every other bartender, server and bouncer is the best but this guy will run you for your money like no one's business plus an attitude that is out of this world, I get it can be busy but everyone else has a smile on their face but him when it's busy. If you want good drinks at good prices, don't go to the shorter dude that doesn't wear a hat, order from anyone else because they'll treat you right, not him. Everything else about this place is awesome, the vibe, ambience, people, except him unfortunately. This place is the go to every weekend, I just feel bad for the other patrons that order from him, I understand he makes the place money, I would imagine his money at the end of the night is good too, but the integrity just isn't there when everyone else's is. This is my first time returning to CASA post covid shutdown. Previously, I was a regular patron and always had super positive experiences, with both the quality of the drinks and the staff. I'd rather use a cactus as a butt plug than come back, this one experience was so genuinely regrettable. Our waitress made a massive mess out of our tabs and we had to wait 15 minutes for it to be reprinted three times, and kept bringing out shots that weren't ordered and still ended up on the tabs. Beside being absurdly frustrating, the security guard, Corey, was so fucking creepy that our group had to leave because he was making my female friend and me extremely uncomfortable. He kept hawking our table and found minutiae excuses, like me standing up to get down from the table to reprimand us. He kept staring at me, my breasts and whenever I walked by he'd blatantly stare at my ass. I did not wear sweatpants to the club to be ogled by a pervert fuckhead with an earpiece. On a good note, the dj played a fucking top notch set, whoever played today was massively killing it. I want to come back to CASA because that's always been the spot that for my group of friends we always start or end the night at. Hopefully there can be some changes so that we can come back and enjoy ourselves without worrying about creepy security guards or the frustration of disorganization. read more

The worst spot on Mill. I will preface with the only reason I went back to this place - El Jefe was on a 30 minute wait and I had a concert to get to at the Marquee so I was pressed for time. The food was horrendous: 4 people ordered steak tacos on flour tortillas - 4 people got steak tacos on corn. The steak was cold, flavorless and chewy. The bean dip, also cold was full of lard and tasteless (I'm not even sure how they did this to those poor pinto beans). Our waitress was subpar and the music made me want to shove a fork in my ear. Had a recent encounter with security. All I can say is they need to be re trained. All I hear them talking about is bragging about the last guy they got to put their hands on. In my experience I was a casual customer with my dog. I noticed it was a dog friendly patio, but of course when I came up to the patio gate I'm then told no dogs allowed even though there is a big sign right next to where security is standing that stated dog friendly patio. Eventually was let it but obviously if you prove one of them wrong they have their inflated Ego for the rest of the night. So as the night went on I was casually sitting at the bar and security comes and and proceeded to tell me no dogs past 9pm, so I kindly asked for where that policy is stated, he then says it's time to go and grabs Me. Without any explanation. Of course I resisted because it had no real explanation. I asked for a policy and it seemed he was caught making something up. Now he need to act like Mr tough guy. I then realized my dog was getting spooked during the situation and pulled herself out of the collar. So as I went to try to grab her the security then believed I was trying to fight them and grabbed me by my neck and pulled me out side. Threw me on the floor as I was all ready off the property and continued to hold me down my putting his knee or hands on my throat. I was unable to breath and it was completely uncalled for. I now have a sore throat because of it. I believe the security guard that night should have disciplinary actions for that reactive behavior. I hope to hear from management about this. read more

Your Jordan's, Nike's, Adidas, (and skin color) mark you as unworthy to eat at Casa Sunba. This club/bar denied my entrance after waiting in line, because of my shoes. I wore a collared shirt, nice jeans, and black Jordan's. The security guard scanned my shoe, held out his hand and said 'no'. I was told that management does not allow anyone wearing high-tops, and sneakers into the establishment. It's immediately clear to me who this policy dis-proportionally affects. This policy may as well say 'blacks not welcome'. I was confused, and even told the security guard that this 'policy' sounded Jim Crow levels of racist. His face seemed to agree, but CASA Sunba pays his bills so we were sent away. A dress-code guide printed outside the establishment would be nice, at least that way our party could've been spared the embarrassment of being the black people who weren't allowed to enter. One thing I noted, was just like all the clubs on Mill that night, the CASA was blasting the latest Drake, rap and hip-hop hits. Didn't, Drake just release a new pair of Jordan? Aren't the types of shoes you're discriminating against strongly linked to the culture of music that makes your establishment worthy of its clientele? The lesson I learned from your bar, is that Casa Sunba will utilize black culture for marketing and promotion, but is happy to deny our people entry at the door. A cursory glance of other Yelp reviews about Casa Sunba confirm this. I'm happy to take my money elsewhere. And I encourage, and will encourage, anyone and everyone else to do so as well. read more

Went here with my girlfriend. Its normally more a club(pre covid) but they added seats outside and heaters. Not the most full service bar and as they never seem to have ingredients for certain drinks, but you go there for the buckets of beer and better than average Mexican food. CASA has been my favorite place to go to on mill! I've been coming here since it was just the outside patio portion! The new indoor part gives you the feel of going to old town without the outrageous prices! There have been a few times I have been harassed by some men in there and security was quick to help making me feel safe inside the establishment. The food is so underrated!!! I feel bad about writing a one star review... but I feel as though I have given this place both the time and chance to recover. The first time I came in was for one of the infamous burritoes. I was happy to know that they had a large vegan menu because of the vegan chef. I tried the Chinese Take out which was huge and consisted of fried rice, orange tofu and an egg roll. All the other vegan options sounded great so we were excited to come back. This was a few years ago, maybe 2012. The next time we returned they were out of many things, so I had to get the chinese take out again. It was good, I just expected to try something new. The next time we went later in the afternoon. Service wasn't great. It seemed as though they were upset we weren't drinking. I get it, but we came for the food. We always tip 20%. We were driving home from California and wanted a burrito. We called a to go order and none of the vegan items were available. We gave up. Still around 2012. This past week we called in a to go order at 8:45 PM. I politely asked if they were still serving food, to which they said yes. I am in a local vegan group who has been raving about their new vegan menu. Sadly, I called and they were out of everything but none other than the chinese take out. OK. I ordered it and my husbands non vegan choice. They said it would be 20 minutes. We showed up at the 22 minute mark and the security looked at my husband and said "yeah?" to which my husband said we had a to go order. Not super welcoming. Long story short the food wasn't ready for another 20 minutes. I'm sad to say that if they actually had the items they so often run out of, it might be worth the drive for us. If you type in "vegan" while you are standing on Mill, Casa comes up. I was trying to take non vegan friends to a vegan place. Well, while I ALWAYS appreciate vegan options at ANY establishment, Casa is not a vegan restaurant. It's more of a bar or patio club. Fun for more of a drinking atmosphere. Maybe if a collage bar scene is what I was looking for, my review could be better. That being said, we had the vegan tacos. They were ok, but not excellent. Once again, I love any place willing to give the option, and I certainly liked them more than eating meat! They were just sort of plain. Another cool option I love in any place is the ability to do lettuce tacos instead of tortillas! The call it "Kush" style here. The service was great, the outdoor seating is lovely, but don't be fooled, this is not a vegan restaurant. It's a bar, that serves tacos, with one vegan option. Kudos Casa! read more

This is a good place to eat, if you like to NOT eat your meal in peace! It's located on Mill Ave so that already describes the type of place that it is. It's an outside bar/restaurant, and I'd much rather go here to drink than to sit down and eat. They have an upstairs area as well but that too is also always crowded. First time I came here I didn't know better to order beforehand so when I got there I had to awkwardly sit at the bar and order food while everyone else was socializing and drinking because apparently no one goes there to sit down and eat. I tried both the vegan burrito and the vegan tacos and that's this place's saving grace honestly because I wouldn't come here for any other reason! Second time I came I called in to pick up my order and even THAT wasn't helpful because no one knew where the heck my food was and they kept sending me on a wild goose chase to different people/places to find it, talk about no communication! The food itself however, OUTSTANDING! Both the "carne asada" burrito and taco vegan options are so delicious, it makes me not miss meat at all! It tastes just like something you would get an authentic Mexican restaurant, I couldn't even tell that it was made from plants! We were having an OK time until the cocktail waitress came and kicked us out of our table despite being told we could sit there unless we bought a bottle. I asked security for permission before sitting elsewhere and was directed to another table before the same cocktail waitress came up to us and with attitude told us to get up because "she said so." The bar downstairs needs some more shade because the sun is pelting the back of your head at all hours of the day. Decent TV's though at the bar. Super hot waitresses with half their butt/boob showing (ladies, if your man has wandering eyes, maybe you won't love that ASSpect). There were handsome, stern faced security guards EVERYWHERE. It made me feel safe, although a little weird that they were just stiffly watching us lol. Long lines waiting to get in at midnight - so you know this place is popular. I've been coming to CASA since it was opened, even before it was CASA. Been a good experience, however, an incident happened, with one of the employees, the last visit. Saturday night, I'm pulling into a parking spot, near the patio entrance, of CASA. The girls in the cab of the truck are doing their makeup, and I'm eating a grapefruit (very random); one of the a group of security is taking out trash, to the dumpster. One of them, starts making hand gestures, and faces, while saying things. I can't hear him, so I roll the window down. He says, "you guys get the f* out of here!" I'm shocked, as are my passengers. I get out of the truck, as he walks back to the property, I ask what his name is, to another security, (as he wasn't talking distance). He didn't even acknowledge me. The original security, comes near the gate again, and I ask him his name, so that I know who I'm am speaking with, he says "Shawn". I ask him what the problem is; he says "you guys aren't f*ing getting in HERE!" I ask, again, to get a reason. He says he saw us drinking, which was a lie. I told him, I was eating, and they were doing they're makeup. He disregarded, and asked my first and last name; I gave it, and he smirked (not sure why). I asked for his last, he then took off. I'm not quite sure if he was mad because he thought we were holding the parking spot, or something else, more personal. Btw, he is light completed, and my passengers are Native, and I am Hispanic (not saying it was a race issue, but I'm not quite sure what the deal was.) His communications were in a hateful manner, the entire time, on top of the vulgarity (which I did not stoop to, in return) We decided to go to Fat Tuesday instead. Much better vibe. I will not be going to this establishment in the future. Very sad to see a fun environment, that I've been attending for so long, turn to such disgrace, due to faculty. Okay, so here's a story. Basically a group of my friends and I, maybe like 6 people total, decided to go to mill for my 21st birthday. We decided to go to casa because they had a good deal on their buckets. The moment the bouncer lets me in he told me "next drink is water okay?" Thinking it was a joke because it was my 21st I giggled and walked away. So we went upstairs and ordered 2 buckets for the table. Our waitress was a gem! The moment our drinks hit the table the same bouncer showed up immediately almost out of thin air and asks me if we can't talk outside. I was extremely cooperative and went with him. Mind you at this point I've had maybe 2 drinks and was perfectly fine. He escorted me outside the gate to give me a stern talking to (it was not even 9pm) about how it was time for me to turn it. He told me that I didn't listen to him when he told me to get water and that it was for my safety. I kindly explained to him that I felt fine and thought I was acting fine. If he needed me to leave I wouldn't have fought it that is his job after all. But I feel as if he had it out for me from the start. So he allowed me to go back upstairs at this point I just wanted to go. I was humiliated and ashamed but I had done nothing wrong. My friend I was with decided to talk to him before we left to explain how he ruined the night. Before my friend could ask why he wanted me to leave so badly, he told her verbatim "well she was acting like she was mentally retarded the minute she walked in here" while he held her arm really tightly. We grabbed the head of security after this comment and tried to get some answers and feel a little better. Brent was very kind and heard us and even wished me a happy birthday.
