I visited last week with my sister for a quick lunch on Sunday. We've dined here many times over the years and have consistently had positive experiences! My 3 star review is due to the fact that gratuity was automatically added to our bill. In all the years I've been coming here, I've never had this happen before, especially on a bill of around $60 for a party of two. I feel this should be clearly disclosed to guests. As someone who has worked in the service industry, we were always told to communicate when gratuity has been added, as failing to do so can come across as misleading and may result in customers unintentionally tipping twice. I don't necessarily take issue with gratuity itself, but transparency and clear communication are important parts of good service. read more

We were here on a Friday evening and they had a live DJ playing music and lifting up the energy of the place. Seems like a fun start of the night. I used to like eating here because the food was fine reasonably priced, and the service is usually good, but now they've raised their prices considerably, and on top of that, they have adopted the policy of adding 20% tip to the bill, regardless of the number of people (in this case it was only two people) without disclosing beforehand that the gratuity is included in the bill. Even though this is considered legal, it is a tricky practice, especially if it is not disclosed, because the customer may not realize it, and add more gratuity to the bill at the time of paying. Additionally, they are already establishing how much you tip, regardless of your level of satisfaction. For me this is a reason not to return, even though I would have tipped at least that much. read more

This place used to be our go to but last few times the food and the portions weren't up to the standards they had in the past. We stopped going for a while but got some takeout since we were going to an ice cream place in that mall. I don't know what's going on but my wife wouldn't finish her 3 taco order and my go to entree protein portion was laughable for a $22 pork dish and at best was 1/3 of what it used to be when it was a cheaper price. I get inflation but when you order pork carnitas...how about you give people that. Hadn't been there in a while used to be very good. I knew it changed hands a few times. My friend and I went there the other night because they were open until 10 o'clock . No one was in there when we got there. One woman seemed to be doing everything serving food, making drinks, etc. we ordered a couple of margaritas and then our food. The margaritas are mediocre at best... terrible sour mix cheap tequila and a small Grand Mariner nip attached. Food was decent large portions but expensive when we asked for the bill we were mortified my food cost less than my margarita!!! The margaritas were $20 a piece with terrible sour mix totally not worth it when I asked the server in regards to the pricing she acted as if she didn't know anything about it and said that they had just changed the menu again and raised the prices I will never go back again!!! If I could give give this place 0 stars I would. It is one of the latest places open on Route 1, however that doesn't mean that's a good thing. I used to go to this place years ago and it was always packed. I went with my friend this time and the place was empty, we got drinks, the alcohol menu had no prices on it. The food was so so, nothing exciting, nothing bad but very expensive. Portions were large but not large enough to justify the cost. The Fajitas were big enough to serve two people, the Margaritas were twenty dollars each which was more than any food item on the menu, when the waitress was asked about the alcohol prices she said that the menu changed and the prices were raised. When we walked in the exterior looked exactly the same as it did 10 years ago however the lights were up so bright it was almost shocking when you walked in. One Fajita, a Quesadilla, and three Margaritas with house tequila was over $100. With absolutely no extras or anything. If you wanted to add a side of queso to go with the chips they give you to start it's an extra $10. Will not be back. read more

This was a typical family-friendly Mexican restaurant that offered great food and wonderful service. The quesadillas were literally the size of dinner plates and were so flavorful! Everything was reasonably priced. The only downside to our experience was the private party happening in the restaurant -- the group itself was fine, but the live band that played throughout the entirety of our stay was extremely loud. Even our waiter had a difficult time communicating with us over the loud trumpets and singing. Had the overall volume of the band been a bit quieter, it would have been rather enjoyable. This was one of the worst meals we've had in a while. They have a relatively large menu and photos of every item, which they may want to rethink as my meal didn't even remotely look like the photo (lol). They serve you salsa and chips and a bean dip to start. The salsa was flavorless. We decided to start with some queso. That was also flavorless and literally only had cheese. The picture showed some jalapeños and spices. We were disappointed. My husband got the California chicken quesadilla and it was extremely greasy. His stomach started to hurt as soon as we left from all the excess grease. I got the enchiladas suizas. The plate was extremely hot while the food on the plate was nearly ice cold. There was barely any tomatillo sauce on top and zero cotija cheese as described in the menu; just shredded cheese. The rice was extremely bland, dry, and tasted old. I love casa vallarta in Saugus on rt1. we always had consistent experience here. This very comfort and authentic mexican rather than something different and exceptional. The choice of the drink for me Michelada with Corona. Absolutely amazing drink topped with couple Tajin spiced Shrimp. Bit salty for sure the drink but worth it once in a while . The chips , salsa, hot sauce and bean dip have always been to the Point and they always being plenty when asked for more without any issues. For food we always have nachos , chicken fajitas, chicken street tacos, Veg burritos most of the time and it has always been good , homely and comfort style of taste. The quantity they dont skip. one thing they did last time and i am taking that as one time off mistake was when i asked for extra jalapeno and they gave me one whole jalapeno and charges like $3 for it when it used to come with 3-4 all the time. charging extra for Jalapeno and that too $3 is not acceptable and hence cutting 1 star . Overall i like the place but if they are going to start nickle diming everything then we will stop going there unfortunately so hoping they dont do that. read more

First of all, the picture of the pork meatball soup in the menu is three times SMALLER than the lovely soup that comes out. It's your dinner. Everything is delicious. Food was very fresh and yummy. Their salsa and chips are great. I had chicken and shrimp fajitas. Sometimes I find fajitas very salty and there were not at all. Amount of seasoning and cook on the veggies was on point for me (I like mine still with some crunch). I'm also picky about how shrimp are cooked and these were perfect - snappy! Service was quick and friendly. It is right off rt 1 so recommend stopping by for a quick bite if you are going by. I got a non-alcoholic margarita which I thought it was cool they offered that in several flavors. The food at this place was better than many of the other Mexican restaurants I've gone to, but it was pretty pricey. My girlfriend and I got two plates and guacamole for $60. Our server and all other servers were constantly on their phone which was kind of odd and it made our stay way longer than anticipated. I'm giving the 3 stars for the slow service, not very clean atmosphere and high prices. Also I walked around to go to the bathroom and saw 3,4 employees sitting in booths on their phone (which they could have been on break idk?) but when I walked in the bathroom, the door was blocked and I had to shuffle in to it because another worker was on their phone just standing there. read more

The service was functional if not the friendliest, but the experience was more than satisfying overall: they provide each table with warm tortilla chips and a refried beans dip beside the (quite liquid) tasty salsa. The Enchiladas were good and definitely Mexica rather than Tex-Mex, something that I appreciate for a change. The cocktails were huge and priced accordingly (over $10 each). I've been to Casa Vallarta twice and both times have been a great experience. The food is incredible and the menu has quite the selection of dishes. I had grilled chicken each time along with wings for appetizers - they were both cooked well and seasoned to perfection. The service was extremely attentive but not overbearing. All of the wait staff had smiles on their faces and they seemed like they were genuinely enjoying themselves. A festive family atmosphere. I'll definitely be going back soon! read more

Confession: I suck as a local. Week in and week out I drive into the city in search of the next good thing, when there are places like this in my own backyard. I drive by Casa Vallarta at least 3 times a week, never giving it a second thought. First impressions? The colored tile, the smell of fresh tortilla chips, and a wait staff literally large enough to service a battalion...Ok...these guys might be on to something. This feels every bit as much LA as any Mexican restaurant I've been to. The menu? Well, it's the menu. Let's be honest: 90% of Mexican restaurants at this price point have the exact same offerings. It is what it is! Now the food itself is what separates the weak from the strong. This is where Casa Vallarta flexes all kinds of muscle, authentic soul satisfying dishes! This place is no bueno. Salsa tastes like bbq sauce with tomatoes and onions. Their hot sauce tasted like dollar store vinegar. The tortilla chips and everything else that was fried had a bad burned oily taste as if their frying oil hadn't t been changed in years. All the meat had the same bbq seasoning flavor taste.
