Was in the mood for tacos and margs after work. So the hubby brought me to Casa Vieja this was our first time at this location. We were seated quickly in their patio. It was perfectly timed as we enjoyed the warm weather with drinks and chips, as the sun was setting. This was a great start the the weekend. My hubby ordered the cocktail de camarón and I ordered fish tacos. Both were more suited for the American pallet and not necessarily authentic. I have tried other dishes before and those were fine. Oh this is in my back yard and I'm still finding my way around in Music City Nashville, TN USA. Nevertheless, I was passing by and hubby said let's try this Mexican restaurant, yes of course I agreed. We were seated when we first came in . The restaurant has a nice size of patrons but not too many for lunch time. The staff is very friendly and knowledgeable. Jesus is our waiter and he knows the menu very well. I ordered a Margarita and the number 5 lunch special- taco, chili relleno and rice and beans. Hubby carne asada burrito and rice and beans. The wait staff could learn to have personalities. They came very close to falling on the indifferent side. Food: 1 Full disclosure, I'm from Southern CA and Southern AZ, I know what good Mexican food is. This was the most bland Mexican I've ever eaten. Unless you're competing with Taco Hell you DO NOT use ground beef in enchaladas, especially when it has no flavor. The rice was bland and the refried beans were only passable. On the good side the salsa was very good. We moved to KY two years ago and understand that the food in this region is not what we're used to, but the owners of Casa Viejo need to introduce their clientele to authentic Mexican dishes that pop with flavor. You know they say if you get buzzed off of one of their regular margaritas then you're probably 12. However the rest of the food is so "good" that you'll forget you aren't buzzed. One of the best Mexican places in the area. Authentic, reminds me of Cali if you ask for no cheese sauce (but their cheese sauce is yummy!), all good good stuff! Please understand that this is a first impression rating. The chips were mostly broken but the salsa was decent. The guacamole was blend, it was sweet to taste and no flavor besides avocado. I enjoyed the service the server was authentic and attentive, even though it was within closing hours. The beans and rice were well seasoned, however the cheese in the enchilada was not one of the best quality. I was also expecting corn tortillas on the enchiladas. This place seems very popular with a constantly full parking lot, and I just don't get it . This place is terrible. The food is awful. I can only assume that anyone leaving a good review of the food has never actually had anything close to real Mexican food. Perhaps not any kind of actual food. I went to Casa Vieja for the third time ever today (only because people I was eating with requested to go there) and there's no way in hell I'm ever returning. The last time I came here I was never served my food. Ever. Everyone else ate and was ready to go yet I was never brought my meal. That was a better experience than today. Not receiving their food is a mercy. Today, after initially getting my order completely wrong I was eventually brought a plate full of cheese-covered garbage. I ordered a combo that came with the worst excuse for a taco I've ever seen. It was completely inedible. The tamale was a pile of stringy, dry meat covered in sauce, and the chili relleno was an equally inedible mushy pepper filled with completely liquid white stuff I can only assume was supposed to be cheese. Been here and in other Casa Vieja on Anderson Ln numerous times. Both places went down the toilet. A good check up from the inspectors is past due. A server literally warmed our cheese dip in the microwave on plain eyesight which was located close to the bar, toward the kitchen. As he pulled it out of the microwave and before he started walking toward us, he spit in trash over our cheese dip while he held it in his hand. Then served it to us. Nasty!!! Food was great! Salsa is the bomb. The salsa is one of the best tasting I've had since we left California! Portions are tasty and plentiful Ambience is nice. Tables are about four feet apart which did allow us to hear other conversations but it wasn't as loud as Cheddars in Mboro. If we are in a Hendersonville again we will be back. read more

We walked in at 8 o'clock restaurant had plenty of patrons and the bar was full so we're not really sure why they said us and never waited on us. Had to watch one of the waiters walking around texting while checking on tables. Had four waiters in the dining room And they ignored us the entire time. Finally a waitress brought us chips and salsa, but offered no drinks. We waited another 10 minutes and no one came. They were looking at us like we were not supposed to be there or something. This is the best Mexican food restaurant I've been to in the Nashville area as of yet! I moved here from San Diego and was recommended to this restaurant by a woman from Orange County, CA, who claims this is the nearest place to Southern Californian Mexican food she's found. Our party of three arrived at the restaurant around 5 on a Friday night and the place was just starting to fill up. As the night went on, it got super busy but the wait staff were always prompt and efficient. I was impressed by the wide selection of seafood on the menu and I got the Camarones Rancheros, which was excellent and fresh. We also ordered the shrimp and fish ceviche, which wasn't on the menu as a side but they let us add it anyways. It was very tasty and fresh. My husband got a steak quesadilla combo and our daughter got the children's cheese quesadilla combo, which were both tasty and good portions. Also worth nothing, I did not see one thing on the menu doused in queso, which for me was a huge plus!! That stuff is gross. Overall, I was really happy with this restaurant! Like for real though.... I drink don j on regular. I asked for a marry with don j and it taste great but I had 1 and I'm sick as hell. I don't know what the fudge they put in it but I just puked like 4 times..... legit my husband and I are both sick and we ate and drank the same thing. He puked 4 times also. I was sure this was going to be a 3 star rating for me but when the most important aspect showed up---my entree---it quickly jumped up to 4 and I'm glad. I opted for the chimichanga lunch meal and the shell was super crispy, the chicken was seasoned and juicy and there was just enough cheese on top. Even better the plate was loaded with goodies under and around the main entree---a healthy scoop of fresh guacamole, good pico, above average quality sour cream (a good bonus), and the traditional rice and beans. It was a good, filling meal and I left too full and pleasantly surprised. So why was I sure it would be 3 stars? Well, first impressions were that though nice and clean I wasn't (and am still not) a fan of the layout. Call me old school but when I go into a Mexican restaurant I want to sink into a private booth whether alone (so I can read and decompress) or with friends or colleagues for a work meeting (so we can talk privately). Plus I like the lights a bit dimmer, all of which makes for a good evening Mexican restaurant if you want Margaritas or cold beer with your meal. But Casa Vieja is bright and "open air" even in the indoor sections. Tables all face each other, are grouped in rather close, so eating here is like eating with everyone else in the room and I've never been a fan of "family dining" set-ups in restaurants. Then the chips and salsa showed up and while the chips were good they weren't warm (despite it being prime lunch time) and the salsa while good wasn't particularly flavorful. Yet as I said, my main dish arrived and I quickly bumped up this spot. I wouldn't have been able to try this place out had La Loma, my favorite Hendersonville Mexican restaurant, closed (at least temporarily) for demolition to make room for some expanding businesses in the area. But as I said, pleasantly surprised as it was good food, fair prices, and decent service. read more

The wait staff at this location were beyond terrible! I was in town for a workshop and found this little place and after looking at some reviews, I decided to try it. I waited probably 15 minutes for anyone to take my order, but that was just the beginning. No one ever came back to check on me for a drink refill. No one ever came to even bring my check. Great Mexican food, great atmosphere, and great prices. This is the best place in Hendersonville for Mexican food, and especially in the warmer months because of their open-air patio. I can typically get a full meal - entree, rice, beans, and toppings plus free chips and salsa - for under $7.00 plus tax, and it's great. The chicken chimichanga is crispy and flavorful. The sopapilla dessert is shockingly good, covered with honey. Like most Mexican restaurants, they pour strong margaritas. The servers are all hispanic but speak English well, so order in English or Spanish. Over the course of 2008 Casa Vieja has become known around town as the best place for a Mexican lunch or dinner. read more

Pros: Has a much nicer atmosphere than most Mexican restaurants without feeling inauthentic, good food, decent prices, clean bathrooms. Cons: Oddly snug and ornery chairs, often crowded, poor service at times. In short, it's worth a try. If you catch them at a decent hour, there's no nicer Mexican place in town that I know of. If they could step up the service, I'd be totally sold. read more
